Blackberry 8820 Unlocked Phone with Quad-Band GSM, Wi-Fi--International Version with No Warranty Review

Blackberry 8820 Unlocked Phone with Quad-Band GSM, Wi-Fi--International Version with No Warranty
Average Reviews:

Just a stunningly, amazing & surprising value! It is decidedly more sturdy than the Curves my daughter has previously owned. Blackberries are known for their high quality & ease of use, but she can be a challenge to the sturdiest of electronics. This has all of that and more. At first, it was in my Best Buy cart, then something told me to come to Amazon. My angels were looking out for my bottom line, because all in all, I saved $30 on my purchase. My daughter likes to travel & this will be another positive feature for her.
Now, I had to update the phone via Blackberry's Desktop Manager & it took four hours, but it was well worth it. This phone has reinforced my #1 daughter's conviction that she will only use a Blackberry (my friends tease her for being hooked on crackberry).
The only drawback is that we are not able to stream any video, which caught me off guard, but, as my kids have pointed out, that is what iPads & the like are for!
You won't be disappointed.

Unlocked Samsung Rugby A387 Phone, (AT&T) Review

Unlocked Samsung Rugby A387 Phone, (ATandT)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This thing could conceivably double as a hockey puck and still be useable.
Literally, I have done everything there is to be done to this phone since I got it in mid 2009. I have done hundreds of demonstrations (placing a call to someone's phone and then throwing the rugby phone clear across the room against a brick wall, all the while, ringing on the speaker phone. As of Feb 2011, it FINALLY showed a crack on the front screen, not the main one.
If you're tough on technology, you would be hard pressed to find a better choice. This thing has gone with me to the field, out on patrols, all over the country in every imaginable weather condition. I CAN DEPEND ON THIS PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY.
For strictly GSM matters, Im perfectly satisfied.
For the GPS applications... not quite so much, but that might not just be the phone. I tend to want my location to pop up immediately and it takes awhile to synch up with the birds up in high orbit.
This is not exactly 21st century social networking friendly, which was of little consequence to me. Getting onto any of the typical social networking sites is impractical, but doable. It certainly doesn't hold a candle to any of the recent phones specifically built to facilitate that interface, but I know too many people who have broken their 4G or iSeries phones.... money down the drain.
Bottom line: Tough. User friendly. Reliable.

Samsung B2100 Unlocked Quad-Band Phone, Extreme Anti-Shock, Waterproof, Built-in Flashlight, Bluetooth-International Warranty-Black Review

Samsung B2100 Unlocked Quad-Band Phone, Extreme Anti-Shock, Waterproof, Built-in Flashlight, Bluetooth-International Warranty-Black
Average Reviews:

It is unfortunate more mobile phones are not made to be waterproof and shockproof with a built-in fm radio, as the Samsung B2100 is. We had high hopes when we purchased this "unlocked" mobile phone through Amazon.com, however, upon receipt we soon realized it was only partially unlocked. We spoke to AT&T Customer Support over the phone, took it to our local AT&T store, followed by taking it to a Best Buy Mobile store, and all three sources, and their multiple representatives all concluded the phone was not fully unlocked. This is a UK based cell phone, and we are US based customers currently on the AT&T network. The phone is unlocked in the sense that we can make and receive phone calls without issue, but not fully unlocked in that the phone does not permit us to send or receive photo messages, nor can we connect to the internet with it. When AT&T and Best Buy Mobile Reps went into the menu settings of the phone, to where they needed to adjust the corresponding tower/network code to remedy these issues, the UK code was grayed out (0.0.00.0) and therefore unchangeable to a US one. I then e-mailed Samsung USA and Samsung UK with no response. AT&T phone based customer support was unable to proceed with any step-by-step instructions, as this UK phone is not in their US database, which is why we then went to our local AT&T store instead, per their request. When our local AT&T store could not help us in any way, despite the best efforts of their entire in-store team, we then proceeded to Best Buy Mobile, who also tried vigilantly, without success to address this issue. We also Googled this issue, and found a few other folks who had these same issues, but nobody seemed to be offering any real solutions. On that note, we even posted our issue on Fixya.com, with no response of any kind. Having exhausted our efforts, today I called Amazon.com who was kind enough to e-mail us the necessary information to begin our full-refund process. It's just unfortunate we could not find a fix for this issue, as I am sure it's out there somewhere, as we would have liked to keep the phone. None of the US phones currently for sale at our local AT&T store or local Best Buy Mobile are said to be waterproof, as this one is, and all of their "military grade" phones are flip-phones, with minimal water resistance.
If you do not care about being unable to send/receive photo messages, or connect to the internet, and just want a durable waterproof phone, this may be the phone for you. There's a "Samsung B2100 Review" currently on YouTube, which I will attempt to link below, showing the phone fully submerged in a tank of water, receiving a phone call, and still working perfectly when they take it back out. Oh, and it has a built-in flashlight too, just in case (no camera flash though).

Sony Ericsson W595 Walkman Unlocked Phone with 3.2 MP Camera--U.S. Version with Warranty (White) Review

Sony Ericsson W595 Walkman Unlocked Phone with 3.2 MP Camera--U.S. Version with Warranty (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(Note: I am judging this phone against my previous long-term models, which include w200, z310, k550, w350, as well as some others I have poked at)I am extremely satisfied with this phone, but let me start with a couple things which might be deal-breakers for some people.
1. The number keys are a little on the stiff side. Not unusable, but a little stiffer than the w350 or k550.
2. This phone does have some creaks and wiggles. However, I found that much of the creaking in the open position was actually caused by the battery lid, which I fixed by sandwiching a sheet of toilet paper under it.On to the real features, most of them pretty good...>> Sound quality AND volume
The w595 has the clarity of the old k550, but both the earpiece and the ringer loudspeaker are louder. It's not as loud as the ringer on the w350, which is among SonyEricsson's loudest for some reason, but it's still louder than the k550, w200, and about as loud as the z310 (without the z310's poor quality).
It has loudspeakers on both the top and bottom of the phone.>> Display
This phone has a display with good brightness and color saturation, and SonyEricsson's new light sensor to adjust the display brightness based on ambient light (i.e., in a movie theater, the display automatically drops to low, but boosts to full in bright sunlight).
The viewing angle is not as wide as the w350 or k550. It is mainly for direct viewing, but there appears to be a tradeoff because viewing the display horizontally (for videos) is actually better than most other phones. Most phones look good in the "normal" position, but look bad when turned 90 degrees. This one is good both ways, as long as you look straight at it.
The 240x320 resolution is really good for mobile web browsing (especially with Opera Mini), Google maps, reading emails, and everything else.
It's more visible in sunlight than most phones.>> Camera
Pretty decent image quality, though it lacks auto-focus (SonyEricsson seems to be reserving this feature for their new Cybershot models, so I wouldn't expect it elsewhere any more). The shutter responds fairly fast, which is actually an advantage over the autofocus models as long as you don't need to take pictures less than a few feet from the subject.
If you like to take photos as a way of making a quick note of something (like a product package), you can still do this. Take the picture a few feet back so it isn't out of focus, and use the volume keys to zoom in on the image when you want to read it.>> Java applications
It runs games, Opera Mini, and Google Maps very well. Opera Mini starts up in just under 5 seconds. Much like the k550, the w595 will run almost any games.
***Upgrade: the new menu system lets you create a shortcut directly to a Java application (as long as it is in the Applications folder). I have the right-arrow shortcut set to load Opera Mini, so it can be accessed as quickly as the built-in browser.>> Video playback
In addition to playing 3gp video, the W595 is one of the few phones which will actually play MP4 videos. Some phones claim it, but actually require you to convert it to a 3gp. True MP4 videos are much higher quality than 3gp. I was able to play an hour-long science lecture I downloaded, which makes this cool phone "educational".
NOTE: do NOT play videos by finding them through the "Media" menu. This new media menu is a fancy-looking scrolling interface which is completely unnecessary and causes video playback to lose sync with the audio. A firmware update "fixed" this by forcing the audio to synchronize every few seconds, which still looks like crap. Use the File Manager like a civilized human, and all of this trouble goes away. It's located in the Organizer menu, and you can make a shortcut to it if desired.>> Email client
As I write this, my w595 is push-enabled by using the IMAP feature offered by GMail. As of last year, both Gmail and Yahoo have IMAP support for free. This sends you email to the phone without having to dial out manually to "check" it. I ignorantly declared that previous models did not support this without a carrier service, but it turns out some did (but no free email services offered it).
The email setup is also much easier. I just entered my GMail address/password, and SonyEricsson is clever enough to find all of the correct server/port settings for GMail. It was also smart enough to check if GMail supported IMAP, and asked me if I wanted to use it ("yes please!").
Regular POP3 is of course also supported, if you don't want a constant email connection.>> Accelerometer
This is the kind of thing the iPhone and Wii have, so the phone can sense movement. It's not an entirely practical feature, but it adds "coolness" if you want to impress your friends with a bubble level (available on the SonyEricsson website).>> RSS Reader
If you don't know what that is, skip this section and save hours of your life. If you are already using RSS and you want the Internet to be force-fed to you, this latest version offers improvements over the previous models:
- Set update times for any or all hours of the day, individually for each feed.
- New stuff shows up in a popup scroller on the home screen, with photos if available.>> Multi-tasking
It seems to handle running one application while one or two others are minimized. To minimize a Java application, press the END key ONCE, and select minimize (pressing it twice closes it).
It offers full menu access during phone calls, so you can do things like check your tasks/calendar while talking to someone. Java applications can be run during the call, but Internet access appears to be disabled and media files won't play.>> Organizer
As usual, SonyEricsson offers a good alarm clock which provides the only structure in my life. New and existing features:
- Multiple alarms
- Set any of them to either repeated (on whatever days you choose), or one time
- Use ANY sound on the phone as an alarm
- Adjust the volume for individual alarms (morning wakeup full volume, tea time a pleasant low)
- Add a picture to display
- Add a text description.
The organizer also include a lot of other good stuff, such as:
- Tasks, with instructions and reminders on set dates/times.
- Notes, so you can store notes without resorting to SMS drafts.
- Calendar, timer, stopwatch, etc.>> Shortcut/event menu
This is one of many models with a really handy button which brings up a custom shortcut menu. It's complex to explain, but really handy to use.
The shortcut menu has 4 "tabs":
- New events (usually a missed call, new message, or a task due)
- Running applications
- My Shortcuts
- Internet
Unless something special is happening, clicking the shortcut key will bring up your shortcuts. If something special is happening (new event or running application), that tab will automatically come up. You can use the left/right keys to switch tabs at any time.
This shortcut key works at all times (e.g., while on a phone call or while browsing the Internet). Thus, you can be browsing the Internet, and if you hear the message alert, you can click the shortcut key to bring up the message and close it again without closing the browser. Or if you minimized an application to do something else, you can click the shortcut key to bring up the list of running applications without navigating to it.>> Track ID
This is a really neat feature included with many of the Walkman phones (and a few non-walkman models). If a song is playing on the radio, in a store, etc, and you don't know what it is, Track ID will record some of it, and connect to some Internet server which will tell you the song/band. It's not perfect, but it works much better than you might expect.>> Battery life
So far, it's pretty good. I watched a 1-hour video, which is a pretty hefty task, and only lost about 15% battery capacity. I keep the email connecting running 24/7, and I use about 45 minutes of internet and/or games per day. It doesn't ever fall below 50%.The main reason I dropped one star from this phone's rating is because the housing just isn't well refined. Everything functions fine, but a 5-star phone just shouldn't have the creaks and wiggles.Yikes, that's an enormous review, and I don't feel like proofreading. No warranties implied.Tips and stuff:
1. Don't use the Media menu to play videos (see above).
2. If you are going to use IMAP for email access instead of POP3, make sure you are using GMail correctly or it will try to download every email you ever received (I will post a detailed explanation in the comments).
3. The battery lid sucks. Just pry it up from the obvious spot, as wrong as it feels. Careful, it may spring out and attack you. If it creaks when closed, see my ghetto fix (also in the comments section).
4. You can set the slider to end the call, or not end the call, via an option in the settings menu.

Phone Features The Sony Ericsson W595a has a bright 2.2-inch LCD screen (240 x 320 pixels, 262K colors) that sits atop a navigation area with five-way controller (with music playback controls as well as a dedicated camera button), send/end keys, and soft navigation keys. The W595a has a 40 MB internal memory, which can be expanded via Memory Stick Micro (M2) cards up to 8 GB in size. Playback settings also include an equalizer, playlists, stereo widening, and shuffle and loop modes. This Walkman phone features MegaBass enhancement for added depth of sound, a flight mode that lets you keep listening to tunes with the phone's network connectivity turned off, and the PlayNow feature that enables you to download new music tones directly to the phone.

After sending the file for recognition, you'll have the name, artist and album sent to your phone. It also includes a built-in FM radio with RDS, which displays the name of the currently playing song (when tuned to compatible radio stations).
Sony Ericsson's SensMe technology is used to incorporate mood analysis into the track details, which allows you to create playlists that suit your mood. Select SensMe in the downloadable Sony Ericsson Media Manager software, and it will mood-analyze all MP3 files on the computer. When you transfer music from a CD or a PC to your phone using Media Manager, the tracks will automatically be analysed. Instead of selecting tracks for your next playlist, just select your mood.

This phone also provides Bluetooth wireless connectivity (version 2.0), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and file transfer. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. For starters, the description was very vague, which was a problem for me. I'm an At&t customer that broke my phone so this was going to be a replacement for me. My sim card worked fine in the phone. I was able to call, text, and set my ringtones the way I wanted. The only problem is this phone is NOT a U.S phone. My provider couldn't set up the internet for me. So if you don't have a data package and don't use this service, the phone is great. There is a facebook and myspace app but you can't get on those sites. So that's what I found out about this phone.

Buyer beware! This phone looks cool, feels rugged, and heck it even keeps out a little water. But oh does the software suck!!! The functions are useless and out-dated by 5 years! I've never been so disappointed in a phone that costs so much but delivered so little. My phone has crashed once a week. It is super buggy, and now the charging port is faulty. And I've only owned it for two months! Battery life is greatly exaggerated. Screen is suseptable to pocket change. Buttons feel cheap. And at this moment the phone died, with no sign of recovery. Save your money, headaches and time. Dont buy it.

I did not like this cellphone. I looks nice, but works like a low quality item. Since the first voice message I received in this cellphone, the icon (that indicates there is a voice message to listen), does not want to disappear. In addition, every time I receive a voice message, the cellphone send a text message without any information.....so, can you imaging if you are not paying a plan with text messages??. I have never had this problem before with any cellphone device.

Motorola C139 Unlocked Cell Phone--U.S. Version with Warranty (Black) Review

This is a phone.
It does not sing, dance, tell stories, or download garbage.
1#You can make calls.
2#You can send and receive text messages.
3#You don't have to constantly charge the thing.
4#It will survive a drop.
My eight year old and thirteen year old love theirs. I got both of them one and I don't have to worry about them accessing websites or making an obscene amount of puchases online. It also has been a great way to teach them responsibility. I would recommend this little phone to anyone.

A chic candybar handset with a vibrant color display at an affordable price, the Motorola C139 sacrifices neither function nor style to meet your everyday communication needs, keeping you in touch and entertained while on the move. It's a great companion for anyone who needs basic voice communication in a stylish Motorola package.
Design The C139's slim and handsome bar form factor sports a 96 x 65, 65,000-color display, while most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button located above the handset's dial pad. And because the C139 sports an internal antenna, there's nothing to snag or break off, while the auto keypad-lock feature ensures you avoid making accidental phone calls.
Calling Features The C139's built-in address book allows you to assign up to 100 entries, and each entry has the ability to store multiple numbers. The phone supports downloadable monophonic ringtones, and there's even a ringtone composer built right into the phone--perfect for creating your own unique sound. For when it's time to be discreet, the C139 allows you to choose a vibrating alert instead of a ringtone for incoming calls.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools The C139 supports sending and receiving text messages, while iTAP, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter text on handsets, is built into the unit. The C139 also comes with other handy features and tools such as a daily or weekly calendar feature, a calculator, a currency converter, and a stop watch.
Entertainment When it's time to take a break, the C139 comes preloaded with three games--the perfect solution for unplanned downtime, or just plain boredom.
Vital Statistics The Motorola C139 weighs 3.00 ounces and measures 3.96 x 1.79 x .86 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 11.67 hours of digital talk time and 450 hours of standby time. It runs on the GSM 850/1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

If you need a simple phone this is for you. I lost my phone. AT&T wanted $350 for an unlocked Razor. No way that was going to happen. I still had a year on my plan so I needed an unlocked phone. I don't take pictures, text or any of that stuff. I just want to call out and take a few calls when I wish to. Why pay for extra features you do not use. The buttons a good, large and the menu is easy to use. The phone is compact and the sound is great. No issues. I just put in my sim card and went.

This update to the popular 6101 adds one great feature that many folks today can't live without: Bluetooth. With the 6103, now you can have the freedom of a wireless headset with this powerful, feature-packed phone--features such as a VGA camera, a stereo FM radio, a speakerphone, EDGE high-speed data and a whole lot more.
Design The 6103's inner LCD display sports 128 x 160 resolution and support for 65,000 colors. Meanwhile, the outside cover of the handset features a supplementary, 96 x 65, 4,000-color display that can display picture IDs, time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The phone's VGA (640 x 480) camera unit is placed just above this display. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side, while most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. There's also an input to accept universal hands-free headsets, as well as USB and infrared ports for transferring data to and from the handset.
Calling Features The 6103 supports polyphonic ringtones, as well as MP3-, MIDI-, AMR- and True Tones-based music ringers so you can program your favorite songs to alert you of incoming calls. Plus, with the phone's picture ID function, you can assign pictures to your most common callers. If you want to be discreet, there's also a vibrate ringer mode. Meanwhile, voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. The 6103's phone book will keep track of all your contacts, and address book capacity is only limited by the phone's 3.5 MB of built-in memory. There's also an integrated speakerphone for talking hands-free and, as mentioned, the phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools The 6103 is built for powerful mobile messaging and Internet capabilities. With support for the MMS (multimedia messaging service), the phone can send picture, video and text messages. When coupled with the 6103's camera, MMS opens up great opportunities for robust messaging. Instant messaging is also supported, and the phone ships with a built-in email client that supports POP3 and IMAP protocols.
Getting on the Internet is easy with the 6103, as well. It supports the GPRS data protocol, and a built-in Web browser makes it easy to surf the wireless Web, receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones and more. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
The 6103 also supports PC synchronization standards via USB or Bluetooth, which means you can manage and synchronize contacts, calendars and other data with your PC. Nokia's PC Suite application makes this process a breeze. Other tools include an alarm, a voice memo recorder, a calendar, and a to-do list.
Imaging and Entertainment The 6103 is designed for flexible mobile fun. The built-in VGA camera, which features a night mode for better low-light shots, captures stills and video clips (video clips are captured at 128 x 96 resolution). Meanwhile, an integrated FM radio makes it easy to tune in your favorite stations. Picture effects and custom screensavers, as well as backgrounds and themes, can be set up to fit your personality. And don't forget that the 6103 is a powerful gaming companion with support for Java-based games.
Vital Statistics The Nokia 6103 weighs 3.42 ounces and measures 3.35 x 1.77 x 0.94 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.5 hours of digital talk time, and up to 336 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/1800/1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

Well, what can I say...I purchased this "new" phone from Worldwide Distributors for my daughter's christmas present. I wasn't going to write this review until the phone started presenting some problems after 2 months of use. Some keys were not working, including the BB key, which gives you access to all he phone features. I had no other choice then take it to the local blackberry shop. For my surprise they told me that this was a used phone, that it had been repaired before and even had some kind of silicone internally from the last repair. Thank God they managed to repair the phone but the technician told me to use it very carefully as it can fail again anytime. I spent close to $100 for the repair.
There is no way I can recommend to buy any item from this seller again. I've been thinking about sending a claim through the International Commerce Chamber for this situation. I live in Venezuela and I don't know if they will respond somehow for this deceit. Very sad situation....

At first glance, the Prada phone looks like a great buy. Slide out keyboard and responsive touch screen. The interface is really pretty and for a user who doesn't customize their phone much, it probably works ok. It's in the details though that has me tearing my hair out and trying to resell it on ebay.
1) As far as I can tell, the contacts don't import automatically from Microsoft Outlook. You have to go through some *.csv conversion which is a pain. **Anyone know differently, please let me know via this forum!**
2) User interface is not stable, it's rebooted on me at least 5x in the past month when I'm doing random simple things like making a phone call.
3) They like their sounds too much and I can't figure out how to turn them off in normal mode! (i.e. sliding the keyboard in/out has a ringtone, which when you're trying to discreetly text, and you don't want your phone in silent mode, at dinner/meeting is impossible!)
4) The battery runs down relatively fast compared to my old Nokia n95, or maybe I'm just in bad reception areas a lot which impact my battery life?
I would assume a lot of these *features* would be fixed via software upgrade but I don't plan to wait around.

I am a fishing guide and bought this phone because it was advertised as waterproof in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. I dropped it in less than a foot of water, it was submerged for less than a minute and the phone is now completely useless. This phone is junk.

The specs says the battery lasts 490 hours in standby mode. This is completely false. I charged mine for a day and with the battery in full it lasted 6 days (6x24 h.= 144 hours) in Stand By mode, this is 30% of what they offer. Without phone call, without BlueTooth, without FM radio, without taking pics, without sending message, just in Stand By mode. So, I guess one of two things: Samsung is lying about this spec. of 490 hours in Stand By mode or they are sending a cell phone with a bad (almost dead battery). In any case this is the problem with Samsung.Personally I don't like to buy stuff with false specs!
