Unlocked Samsung Rugby A387 Phone, (AT&T) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This thing could conceivably double as a hockey puck and still be useable.
Literally, I have done everything there is to be done to this phone since I got it in mid 2009. I have done hundreds of demonstrations (placing a call to someone's phone and then throwing the rugby phone clear across the room against a brick wall, all the while, ringing on the speaker phone. As of Feb 2011, it FINALLY showed a crack on the front screen, not the main one.
If you're tough on technology, you would be hard pressed to find a better choice. This thing has gone with me to the field, out on patrols, all over the country in every imaginable weather condition. I CAN DEPEND ON THIS PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY.
For strictly GSM matters, Im perfectly satisfied.
For the GPS applications... not quite so much, but that might not just be the phone. I tend to want my location to pop up immediately and it takes awhile to synch up with the birds up in high orbit.
This is not exactly 21st century social networking friendly, which was of little consequence to me. Getting onto any of the typical social networking sites is impractical, but doable. It certainly doesn't hold a candle to any of the recent phones specifically built to facilitate that interface, but I know too many people who have broken their 4G or iSeries phones.... money down the drain.
Bottom line: Tough. User friendly. Reliable.

Casio G'zOne Rock C731 Phone (Verizon Wireless) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The only cell phones I have really liked have been rugged ones. I owned a Casio G'zone Type-S for several years. I dropped it on concrete, used it in rainstorms, took it boating and camping; and it just kept on serving me well. Finally, I gave it to my wife to try and I upgraded to the Casio G'zOne Rock C731.
The Rock has the toughness and features I liked in the G'zone and a lot more. Casio moved some of the side buttons so I no longer accidentally trigger the sound volume rocker switch or the speaker on/off switch.
The sound is great at both ends of a conversation. The speaker function has a louder max-volume, allowing hands-free commands and conversations in a variety of situations. The ring tone can be loud enough to be heard almost anywhere.
The Rock has good operating programming. For example, when I first tapped a key that could be programmed to a different function, it told me and offered to help me reassign it. Next time I used that key, it politely left me alone. It also offers an "Easy Setup" function to quickly guide the initial set-up of sounds, display, etc. You can skip any parts of the easy set-up. And, you can just directly set each separate item without using the easy setup.
I have been surprised to find that I use the GzGear functions all the time. The tide tables help our frequent agate-hunting drives to the coast. My wife and I are now relying on the pedometer for our daily walks and longer hikes. I used the GPS to accurately measure a few walks and then adjusted my stride length, making the pedometer's accuracy better than 95 percent. The compass checked out to be accurate. And, it is handy when Oregon weather hides the sun on days when we are exploring back-roads in the pickup (which has no compass). The thermometer is accurate. But, if the phone has been warmly riding on my belt in fall and winter, it has to be set aside for quite awhile to reach the ambient air temperature. I used the lunar phase view of the moon, sun, and earth to show my grandchildren why the moon was only half-full. They were impressed.
I have only one whine. The camera lens is on the back of the keyboard-half of the clam shell instead of the display-half. So, if you hold the phone most naturally, your finger can easily cover part of the lens. It took me a couple of tries to find a comfortable hand-hold for pictures or videos. But, the camera functions are very useful.
I cannot comment on the mp3 player or web-browsing functions. I hardly use them. I have those services covered with a Sandisk Sansa and my laptop for now. Also, when I need driving guidance, I rely on a wide screen Garmin GPS. It is always-on and firmly attached to my windshield. I cannot imagine trying to mess with any cell phone while I am trying to find my way through city traffic.
Okay, the Rock has music, GPS, web, and all the GzGear and other tools; but it is not one of those phones that provides a bunch of toys and candy while falling short on the essentials. It is a rock-solid telephone. I recommend this cell phone to anyone who wants a tough, weatherproof, and no-nonsense phone.

Casio G'zOne Boulder Phone, Orange (Verizon Wireless) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Verizon broke Casio's phone, but has finally fixed it. A free upgrade to software version 09 or later fixes both the terrible sound quality and the dismal battery life that made this phone infamous. This phone is now much more like its predecessor, the Gzone Type S, but with a better camera
To confirm you have the new software, go to the "Settings & Tools" menu, then "9. Phone Info", then "SW/HW Version", then "Software Version". The last 3 digits should be M09 (or later). You can also check the outside of the box to see if it already has this version--look at the last barcode on the Proof of Purchase sticker.
If you have a Boulder with obsolete software, you must go to a Verizon store (or a very good reseller) and have them perform the upgrade. The upgrade is too big to be distributed over the air. The Boulder I received in December 2008 arrived with the M09 firmware.
This is Verizon's third rugged Gzone phone. They're bigger than most cellphones, but you can actually take it with you in the rain, skiing, hiking, or rafting. Compared to the preceding "Type S" model, this phone is significantly lighter--it feels less sturdy, but in reality the plastic case is probably almost as strong as the Type S metal case. The Boulder also lacks the antenna loop on top that made it easy to attach to a backpack or belt loop.
Based on a week of use, the Boulder's plastic case is much easier to scratch than its predecessors--it's not nearly as fragile as an iPod, but not as indestructible as an all-terrain phone like this should be.
This is a great phone if you don't want to pay Verizon $15+/month to watch video or browse the web. I like the sturdy waterproof design that I can take with me, instead of having to give white-glove treatment to a typical fragile phone. (My last phone, from Motorola, died after getting four feet from a hot tub, even without any water touching it.)
My Boulder battery lasted for four days of moderate use, with EVDO turned off. (To learn how to do this, check out the Howard Forums.) With the software update, this is a good rugged phone for folks who don't want a fragile gadget.

Casio G'zOne Phone (Verizon Wireless) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I am not a cell phone addict. I just want it to work, and to put up with rough handling better than the wet Kleenex garbage phones I've had up to now. I typically have gotten about 6 months from a phone before it looks like it owed the Mafia money. This phone is the antidote to that. I've had it since it first came out, and it hasn't got so much as a scratch. You can read all about its specs, but this is the toughest, most dependable phone I've ever had. It's a really high quality item, and when it gets dirty, I just wash it off in the sink. The battery consistently lasts at least 3 days between charges, it has a good camera with lots of storage space, and the greatest thing is that the camera flash becomes a very good flashlight, which has come in handy so many times I lost count. I used to despise cell phones but had to have them. I won't leave the house without this one, and if it ever croaks (which I doubt) I'll get another one just like it.

If this isn't the phone Navy SEALs use, it should be. Not only is the G'zOne waterproof, it can remain underwater for a full-30 minutes, and still maintain all of its functionality. That means if you haven't drowned after 30 minutes underwater, you can use the phone's built-in GPS feature and flashlight to find out just how lost you really are.
Ruggedized to military standards, this super-tough clamshell is not only waterproof, it's shock resistant, and dust resistant, too. Non-tough guy features include a 2-megapixel camera, EV-DO high-speed data capabilities, a QVGA display, a speakerphone, a built-in mobile Web 2.0 browser, and more.
DesignThe G'zOne features a ruggedized clamshell design with a large 240 x 320 color display with support for a whopping 65,000 colors--perfect for watching V Cast content. The outside of the clamshell features a supplementary monochrome LCD screen that can display incoming call information, battery life, signal strength, current date and time, stopwatch functions, and more. The protected camera lens and flash reside on the front cover, just above the external display, while up/down volume controls and a camera control button are on the right side of the phone. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. The G'zOne also features a flashlight, which is housed on the back of the phone, meanwhile, a unique carrying clip is built into the top of the clamshell.
Calling FeaturesThe G'zOne's 31 MB of built in memory is more than enough to support up to 500 entries in the phone's address book. Meanwhile, a voice dialing feature makes calling friends and associates as easy as saying their names, while the built-in speakerphone allows you to talk handsfree. The phone also comes with built-in polyphonic ringtones and a vibrating alert. More ringtones can be downloaded via Verizon's Get It Now service. Ringtones can be assigned to specific callers so you don't have to look at the phone to know who's calling, or you can match pictures with callers to identify them. Lastly, the G'zOne's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911.
Messaging, Internet and ToolsWith support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, the G'zOne is fully compatible with Verizon's V Cast service. (More customer reviews)This phone is a somewhat old model, so I normally wouldn't bother writing a review on it, but after reading the other review, I feel compelled to stick up for this little phone. It seems the other reviewer got a bad unit, because my phone EXCEEDED every expectation I ever had for it. Dropped calls are just as often to blame on a network as on a phone, I've rarely had any...
I got it in the summer of '05, when I was in college. It survived the last 2 1/2 years of college with me, including me turning 21 and spending time in the local watering holes, which can be quite rough on handsets.
It's been dropped countless times from various heights (and I'm tall) onto often hard surfaces, such as concrete. It's been submerged no less than 2 times.
Basically, I beat the crap out of this phone, and it still worked like a charm. Sadly, in our last few months together, this little guy has been having some trouble. Despite his valiant efforts, things are starting to go, namely the battery doesn't hold a charge for more than a day, and even a replacement battery couldn't resolve that issue. Despite T-Mobile's numerous offers to upgrade my phone over the years, I declined. I honestly can say that I don't think I'll ever find a replacement for this phone that performs the way it did.
It's UI was intuitive, it's construction was rugged, it's quality unmatched. Last night I powered him down for the last time after browsing through years and years of pictures and the memories that comes with them, noting how bright and vibrant the display still was, not a single dead spot. I laughed as I saw my friend holding his girlfriend's purse, scowled at an ex-girlfriend, cringed at a picture of a snapping turtle, marveled at Mt. Rainier in Washington state, laughed at a puppy, and so on and so on. I pulled the SIM card out and closed the battery panel, and strangely felt a twinge of sadness. Strange, because I'm hardly a sentimental person, yet this phone had been with me for such a long time, and performed so admirably, I feel wrong just being done with it. Even it's primitive camera was still snapping pictures to the very end.
Some of our highlights:
- Finishing college and the general stupidity and shenanigans associated with that activity
- Trip to Vegas
- Two trips, spanning a total of 6 months, in the Alaskan wilderness
- Road trip covering much of the central and western United States
- One splashdown in the toilet at work
- One swim in a fish tank
- Numerous collisions with pavement, causing the back panel to fly off
- Surviving in my pocket during a softball game, including being slid on
- Surviving outside over night in freezing Minnesota winters
- Being sat on countless times
- Numerous breakups and new relationships
- Being hired for various jobs
- Spending time as a puppy chew toy
In short, if, for any reason, you might be looking at this phone... BUY IT. No question, no regrets. I will be mothballing mine, but not trashing it - maybe I am sentimental after all?

New Verizon Motorola V750 Rugged Phone Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)It's not smart phone, but awsome phone to carry around without worrying about the battery life or freeze up. The phone is light and very good looking. The battery lasts about a week on standby, and the call quality is very good. I live around "dead zone", and only verizon works where I live, but this phone has good reception. Highly recommended.

Casio C711 G'zOne Boulder Cell Phone Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Phone looked great, charged fine, powered on fine. Took it to Verizon to activate it and they worked on it 2 hours, finally determining that it was unuseable, saying that someone had wiped out the whole memory and it was not ever going to be a usable phone. Was supposed to be a refurbished phone, unlocked, ready to activate. Sending it back. Also could not find ANYWHERE a phone number to the OEM Shop to ask questions. Amazon was wonderful, of course, as they fulfilled the order thru this 3rd party OEM shop. Thank goodness I went thru Amazon and not directly through OEM, so Amazon even pays return shipping.

Casio G'zOne Boulder Cell Phone for Verizon Wireless in Black/Silver with Front Speaker - No Contract Required Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)EVERYTHING WORKS JUST FINE. ONE FUNNY THING: WHEN I ACTIVATED THE PHONE WITH VERIZON, ON THEIR WEBSITE IT STATED "NON CAMERA" BUT IN FACT IT DOES AND DOWNLOADS JUST WENT OK TO THE VZW ONLINE ALBUM. I BOUGHT IT FOR 10 YEAR OLD GRANDSON SINCE HE WANTED ONE LIKE MINE. FUMBLE-FINGERED ANNE, WHO DROPS CELLS, ABSCONDED GRANDSON'S. NOW I HAVE ANOTHER USED ONE ON ORDER-ORANGE-TO CELEBRATE THE TN VOLS. SINCE OLDER PHONES HAVE LIMITATIONS W/ TEXTING, I PERSONALLY USE THE ONLINE SERVICE.
MIGHT ADD THAT A PERSON IS WISE TO STICK W/ AMAZON. I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM W/ THEM BUT TWO ISSUES IN THE PAST W/ EBAY!-JOHNNY

MW09 Watch Cell Phone ~ unlocked~ Quad-band Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I bought and returned this item. Since I didn't find my detailed reviews, I would like to share my opinion about this watch:
It looks bulky, and cheap (it is cheap), I thought I can use it to replace my phone when I want to go for a short walk (or if I don't to put something in my pocket). The voice of the phone speakers is not that loud, but it's ok. I was planning to use the Bluetooth headset. However, the one that came with it didn't work.. and when I used the one I had (Plantronics, which works great) the sound quality was bad and the voice kept breaking. It was also hard to keep it paired to the phone the whole time.
The UI of the watch is a bit strange, the icons they chose where difficult to understand.. but that might be something you can get used to. Didn't keep it long to test the battery life, and didn't plug it into the computer.. two problems that I heard about. I only tested it for an hour, and it didn't do what I needed it to.
The concept is good, but not the design or the implementation. I believe LG would be a better (more expensive) choice. Don't hate, I just wanted to share my actual experience.

Nokia 3220 Unlocked Cell Phone with Camera--U.S. Version with Warranty (Silver) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I'm peruavian, bought this phone in Peru with movistar service...
PROS:
It looks nice and solid. I was very scared in scratching the screen (I've always done this in my past phones) and this one is incredible solid! the phone also felt down once, of course with no intention, and continue working normal.
It has cool features, you can personalize where to locate your quick options in the menu, so you get a very simple navigation. Finally i have to say that the battery is great...i can use it for 4 days with regular use and continues working.
CONS:
The internal memory is poor.
No USB cable included.
Pictures with low resolution(but normal in cell phones of its kind)
This phone is still BIG and heavy considering some other models.
For the price, durability and apparel this one is a good choice.
I've never made friends with nokia in the past, and i regret, beacuse this is a very good choice if you need a hard-everyday-use phone...simple and firm.

The Nokia 3220 is all about having lots of fun. Geared for kids and teenagers, the phone supports wacky features like light effects, cut-out covers, "tilt" gaming and an innovative lighting system that lets you "write" messages in mid air. On a more boring note, the 3220 is a powerful GSM phone with advanced data and messaging features, plus a built-in VGA still and video camera.
Design The 3220 is a candybar phone with tons of candy. The phone is made to withstand the rigors of book bags and plenty of falls from the bleachers. Thick, replaceable rubber bumpers line both sides of the phone. For added fun, they also illuminate and glow when a call is incoming. The front of the phone sports a 128 x 128 display, with up to 65,000colors. The button pad features large, easy to press buttons. The rear of the phone houses a VGA (640 x 480) camera, which is surrounded by a panel that can be removed for placement of "cut-outs." You can design your own covers and slide them under the cut-out panel to personalize your 3220. Both front and rear panels of the phone can be replaced with a variety of colored faceplates, as well. An optional "Xpress-on Fun Shell" adds light wave messaging and a tilt sensor for games.
Calling Features The 3220's phone book can hold up to 500 contacts with multiple entries per contact. It also features a speakerphone for easy handsfree talking. Ringer profiles can be set up to trigger unique light patterns and ringtones for different people on your calling list. Pictures of your friends can also be used as caller ID alerts. The phone features 16 built-in polyphonic ringtones, and custom ringtones can be uploaded to the phone via its USB data port. For those times you want to keep things discreet, there's also a vibrate ringer mode.
Messaging, Internet and Tools The 3220 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, graphics and sound via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is also supported and the phone ships with a built-in email client (carrier messaging charges may apply). T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. Getting on the Internet is easy with the 3220, too. It supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the new, high speed EDGE data protocol.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the 3220 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar with up to 100 entries, and an alarm clock with snooze and a countdown timer. Via download on its Web site, Nokia offers a free application called PC Suite that facilitates easy synchronization of contacts, calendar events and other data between the phone and your PC.
Imaging and Entertainment Because the 3220 is designed for fun, it shines in the entertainment department. The phone's VGA camera can capture stills and video, both of which can be sent to your friends via MMS messaging or email, or to your PC via USB. An included image-editing application lets you modify the pictures you take before you send them. You can record up to 5 minutes of a voice or music clip to use as your ring tone. With an optional stereo headset, you can listen to tunes on the phone's built-in FM radio. The phone also supports custom themes and wallpapers.
Java support is built into the 3220, making it a powerful gaming companion for both online and offline games. The phone ships with four games, Survivor, Club Pinball, Dance Delight and Phantom Spider. Add the optional Xpress-on Fun Shell and you can tilt the handset in three dimensions, making the phone a virtual joystick.
Vital Statistics The Nokia 3220 weighs 3.03 ounces and measures 4.11 x 1.74 x 0.74 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3 hours of digital talk time, and up to 280 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the GSM/GPRS 800/1800/1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

Motorola Adventure V750 Phone, Silver/Black (Verizon Wireless) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)My old phone was the Motorola KRZR. It was a solid, well made phone, but the keypad drove me crazy. It was as if all the numbers were under one solid sheet of metal, very close to one another, making it hard to dial without inadvertently keying in two numbers for one. The keypad on Motorola's Adventure V750 phone is what sold me on it. The numbers are distinct and very far apart. If you're a fumbling dialer, the Adventure V750 is the one for you.
The other features are good, too. I don't use the camera or video that come with cell phones, but I tried them out just for the heck of it and they worked pretty well. The slightly larger dimensions of the Adventure V750 allow you to view pictures or video a little larger than, say, the Motorola KRZR.
Options are very intuitive and easy to work. The menu is very easy to read and navigate on the larger screen. Voice commands are handy, too, as is one touch dialing. Blue Tooth is a handy addition.
The speaker is incredible. When on speaker phone people are very easy to hear. Better yet, if you have a musical ringtone it sounds super nice. Andrea Bocelli announces my calls now, and I sometimes don't want to answer until he has finished, he sounds so good.
One nice feature for a doctor to notice is that when Contacts are brought up the first listing is In Case of Emergency. You're given slots for three persons' numbers to be included here. That's a thoughtful thing to have.
I bought the black silicone skin case for extra protection. It turned out to be a good idea. It keeps the phone clean, and it keeps it in my pocket or on my car seat without sliding around. It also gives the phone a smoother hand, unlike one gets with the phone's diamond cut back.
There is one aggravating factor, however, which caused me to drop this to 4 stars from an otherwise 5 star rating. That is the push-to-talk (PTT) button. If you are not signed up for PTT, pushing the button defaults to Verizon's My Music menu. Because the PTT button is on the side of the phone, and because it can be pushed with a lot less force than the other buttons, I end up pushing it accidentally with the base of my thumb almost every time I flip open the phone. This leaves me with having to back out of something I don't want before I can make a call, instead of quickly bringing up the main screen. It can be locked, but it has to be locked every time the phone is closed; that's aggravating, too. Does anyone out there know how to permanently fix this?
Would I buy it again? Yes. It's still a great phone overall. Can you fix my PTT problem for good? Let me know.
I hope this helps. Amazon reviews are a great resource for investigating products.

Casio GzOne Type-S Cell Phone for Verizon Wireless - Refurbished in Blue - No Contract Required Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This is a refurbished phone, Verizon said they could not get it to work, it powered up, and supposedly the program loaded, but when I dialed a number, it would power off. I went on-line, and set it up myself, no issues, it worked perfectly.
This is not a feature rich phone, it's a work horse. It's made to take a beating and keep on ticking. If that is what you are looking for, this is the phone for you.

Casio C711 G'zOne Boulder Cell Phone Orange Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I am really hard on my phones and I live in a place where getting reception isn't the best. This phone is perfect for someone who wants to take their phone with them EVERYWHERE, literally. I have had Verizon phones that I thought I had purchased extended type warranties for BUT NO. Water damage (MORE LIKELY HUMIDITY DAMAGE) IS NOT COVERED. Finally after I had had enough cheap phones (not so cheap when I had to replace them) I bought the more expensive phone because it was shock proof and water resistant. I have dropped this thing and kicked it along the street and it never missed a beat. Doing that to other phones I had, destroyed the display, caused the keypads to not function or get stuck and to just not work. The Boulder is as advertised. Its a tank.
I also love that I will be in my kitchen and receive text messages and phone calls and my wife won't even have service on her Verizon phone. The built in antenna is superb.
I love that it came with 2 batteries, one an extended life battery. I can practically go a whole week on a single charge with the extended life battery. That's pretty good especially if you are in the outdoors frequently like me. I wanted a phone that I could rely on. I wanted a phone that would outlast the two year contract period. Finally. They made a phone that will do that. I have had my Boulder for two years now. And it LOOKS AND WORKS just like I just took it home and out of the box yesterday.
The only down side to this phone are the limited ring tones that come standard. You can't have everything. My other phones (LG 8300 and 8350) had better ring tones, but you'd better not get close to a bathroom, or an open refrigerator, or a body of water; or even think of water. I take my Boulder Kayaking and have for two years. I put it in my life vest, with no special bags covering it; just as it is. It has not failed me yet. When the time comes that I need to replace this phone, they probably won't be making the Boulder anymore.
