(More customer reviews)I bought this about a week ago from Amazon, excellent cellphone is all I can say. I considered the Z550a I was using before a masterpiece, but the W508a is even better. The phone has a slick design and it's very lightweight and low profile. The Z550a was slightly bulky in comparison.
I get no signal problems and battery lasts for about 5 days with normal use. I have a Sony Ericsson HBHDS980 Stereo Bluetooth Headset that goes with it. With music heavy streaming I can use it for a whole day before it needs recharge.
The headset is feature rich and I have mostly explored the music features and they all work really well. The SensMe feature is just awesome because I don't always feel like selecting 30 to 40 music tracks to listen, with SensMe the player does it for me according to my mood. The phone has superb voice quality and can ring loudly.
The only complain is the external display doesn't show the clock permanently like the Z550 did. I wish I didn't had to open it to look at the clock. Perhaps a feature coming with a new firmware. Another minor complaint is that the vibration is rather weak, again compared to the Z550a. But I can still feel the phone ringing, I'll have to see if I can feel the phone ringing on my pocket when in a loud place.

It had a slow interface for 2006 and come on, I wanted to try somethingn new.Initially, I had planned on exploring my chances of buying a Treo but due to the rates, I gave up my plan. Without much pondering, I went and purchased a Sony Ericsson W810i. Now, it's been four weeks. Let me just give you a brief run thru of features, pros and cons.
Features
1. This phone is an mp3 player. This phone is a torch/semi flash light(with an SOS signal that can be configured). This phone has flash capability and further doubles up into a digital camera. Overall, it saves a lot of space to use this phone instead of just going out with a standalone mp3 player or/and a digital camera
2. The interface is fast. It takes around 8 seconds to get an auto focus and click a picture using the camera. I'll try and explain - to come out of the screensaver you need half a second, to activate camera using the shortcut it takes 3 seconds, a further 2 seconds for auto focus and an additional 1 second to click you picture. Overall,8 seconds to click one image.You can browse thru pictures very quickly. It's around 7 times faster than my Nokia. Images can be clicked in sepia, black and white, solarise(kinda yellowey), negative and normal modes. Brightness can be reduced within the click of a button. I noticed grains on images of larger size. I don't recommend using the flash camera unless you really must. Plus while clicking a video, the light goes on and off, if the flash light is turned on.
3. The build quality on the phone is both good and bad. I love the keypad and it is a major improvement from the 800i and sundry walkman phones. It took me three days to get used to the keypad. The dictionary like function on the phone keeps a track of all the words you spell. So they're definitely there the next time around. The front of the phone seems to appear too plastic. Especially the silver scroll keys and sometimes can make your phone look like a dummy piece. The sound speakers are situated on the backside of the phone and can be used conveniently even when the phone is upside down. You can insert your memory stick pro cards even when the phone is switched on. There is NO CAMERA SHUTTER like the previous installment of this phone (800i) The power button is placed most effectively just like the volume buttons on the right side of the phone which can be used for a host number of features.
4. The internal memory of this phone is 22mb and the accompanied card contains 512mb worth of memory. The usable memory,however, is only 431mb. Upon connecting to the pc, both are instantly recognized and act as removable drives on the "my computer" icon. The accompanied software is almost brilliant. I loved "Disc2phone" and there is so much more I keep discovering about the other programs. Despite lacking an English Manual, I found I didnt need one because I don't know too many people who would buy a sony ericsson phone and not be techies in their own rights who like to configure things on their own.
5. The bundled earphones are sublime. I cannot beleive the sound on these. They cancel all the noises in a room and it's a pleasure listening to beethoven playing away or Enya's mesmerising voice or even Tool's prog metal for that matter. The speakers are satisfactory and could have been louder. If used as a stand alone mp3 player with earphones, the phone would stand for around 6-7 hours.Playing the music without using earphones can eat up battery depending on the volumes of course. It supports m4a, mp3 and aac formats(and a few other formats)
6. The messages memory of the phone is limited to around 150+ messages and that is a big blunder. Despite having a 512mb of external storage the phone cannot accommodate a mere 200 messages. The size of notes is limited and you need to make a second note to carry on. Bluetooth transfers to Samsung,Nokia phones runs at 20kbps while it's a consistent 40kbps for Sony Ericsson phones. Very good for transferring media.
Pros
- It can be called an ipod replacement. I don't use mine quarter as much as I used to. This is owing to the absolutely brilliant earphones that sit within your ear and help you celebrate your time.
- I love how the phone slides into a digital camera. Good build quality for the particular feature.
- Good standby, saves battery, easy to work with 50% brightness. Even when I reduce brightness from 100% to 50% (lowest possible) there is hardly any noticeable difference on the screen. The keypad is much lighter but that's hardly noticeable.
- Fast processor, super graphics and wallpaper options, includes a good browser, calendar, good default themes
- The accompanied torch can be used to change a flat tire and can be switched on for 25mins even when the remaining battery is only 15%. (tried and tested)
- Good keypad(KEY FEATURE), good playlist configuring options
- Excellent software for the phone, mp3s can transferred at variable bit-rates without taking too long
- Excellent,fast log, the phones keeps track off the last ten numbers you've messaged and keeps them around for easy usage
- It's easy to store numbers cause the phone prompts to save numbers when a call from an unknown number ends
- Great handsfree
- There is a memory stick converter (The longer ones used in cameras) and that is a handy thing
- The MACRO mode helps in copying handwritten/type written documents using the camera
Cons
- too plastic, looks a bit boring too soon, screen can be scratched if no touchscreen is present
- the accompanied tones for messages is sad, the message memory is very limite (Big DEMERIT) and the size of a note is limited
- Call quality is not as good as can be
- sometimes it takes over a minute for the phone to recognize it has been plugged into a USB slot
- the accompanied FM radio needs to be in place to avoid screechiness in sound and proper volume
- Even though the phone provides 512mb worth of external memory, only 431mb is useable. Ideally, i'd have liked a one gig card so I could have doubled on my usage.
- Not enough upgradations over the W800i. People can settle for that phone because it has a slightly better talk life
- IT HAS NO ENGLISH MANUAL
- noticeable grains on 2megapixel images
Conclusion,
All though I am very happy with this phone, I cant help but throw a fit over the limited message storage, you can save messages onto your pc but come on, who's gonna do that?
Buy this phone if you like what you read. Not enough reasons to upgrade for 800i owners. BUT this phone has more appeal than 800i and has better more smooth graphics. There is a much better display and there is an improvement of 25% which I just noticed.However, unlike the 550i , there are no three way speakers and that makes "Stereo Widening" impossible.

The biggest problem with this phone is that is has the Cingular branding in it. Not just the logo on the outside (that doesn't bother me), but inside the phone Cingular has changed things. First of all, the themes cannot be as customized as an unbranded w810i. There are some really cool themes with amazing icons. Too bad Cingular has prevented them from working on this phone. There are also "protected" ringtones in this phone. There is no way to delete them. Why is this a big deal? Because they show up in the MP3 player. So if you place your phone on shuffle, one of these annoying ringtones will sooner or later pop up in your earphones. It took me forever to figure out how to get my own MP3's as ringtones. It turns out you have to trim the MP3 down to get it used as a ringtone. Kind of annoying and I could not find any documentation on this. There is also the proprietary internet button on the front. Accidentally bump it and you are going to get charged for data usage if you don't have an unlimited plan. I somehow disabled mine. Not sure how! As for the actual phone....
Call quality is fine. Not as great as the Nokia w/ Sprint I just got rid of, but it's decent.
Button size is fine. Raised nicely and easy to feel. The dedicated volume, music, and camera buttons on the sides are well placed and easy to use.
Camera - The video is not the greatest but the still camera is really quite amazing for a phone. Very clear pictures and a pretty decent capture and store time for a phone. The settings options take a bit to get used to, but they do offer quite an impressive array of photo options for a phone. This phone will actually take pictures you can feel comfortable printing out and framing.
MP3-With the exception of it including ringtones, the Walkman player is pretty good. Easy to navigate. Nice equalizer settings. And the option to keep it playing while using other functions of the phone is really great. It stops if you receive a call and picks right back up where you left off after the call is done, just like the Itunes phones. I've held off on getting an Ipod. With this phone I won't have to. Once my 4gb stick arrives, my phone will essentially be a Nano.
FM Radio-Nicely done. RDS (if station supports it) Quick tuning. Saves up to 20 presets. Easy to use. This is the biggest reason I never went Ipod. I enjoy the radio sometimes for NPR news, MN Public Radio's newest station "The Current", or to hear the tv stations at the gym. After having it on my Nokia, the radio was a must have for any new phone.
Organizer-I downloaded the free Sony PC Suite and my phone synced perfectly with Outlook. That saved a lot of reloading phone numbers into my phone.
The data connection is slow. I do not believe this is USB 2.0 (WHY NOT?). If you are transferring files to your card, I recommend a card reader for your computer. The transfer rate is incredibly faster than the data cable.
Overall, I'm very happy with the phone. It's a great size and is packed with features. I honestly believe it is the best MP3 phone out there right now. The Itunes phones have a slightly better music navigation, but too many of them have limits on song quantities and/or use mini or micro SD cards. Sony's memory sticks are more durable and offer 4gb at the same price of a 2gb SD.
The only improvements I plan on making to this phone is to purchase a screen protector (it's a HUGE screen) and attempt to flash the phone to remove the Cingular branding. Not only will it unlock the cool themes available, but maybe it will let me get rid of those annoying ringtones.
UPDATE: OCTOBER 28
I took a chance and used Davinci 16.9 to flash my phone. It was the most nerve wracking 6 minutes of my life. The result? Cingular branding is completly removed. The full themes are now available (WAY COOLER than before the flash.) I can adjust the power on display (now says SE rather than Cingular.) I was able to delete all but one of the annoying ringtones and I can now use FULL MP3's as ringtones. The Media Net key on the right is now a shortcut key too.
If you feel comfortable flashing your phone (costs twelve bucks to do it) I highly suggest doing it. The only thing I had to set up after flashing was to go to the SE website and have them send updated internet settings to my phone so that I can browse the net on it.
Flashing may void your warranty and is not for the faint of heart.

Sony Ericsson W395 Quad-band Cell Phone - Unlocked Review

(More customer reviews)The 395 is for all intents and purposes a walkman... I had the opportunity to use this phone for a week and within that time found things likable and some not. Firstly, the good stuff... This phone is LOUD! compared to other walkman "esque" phones sone produces, this phone is capable of blasting music at literally half the level of the others and still is louder. The slide system is quite easy to open close... as well as carrying the basics everybody who wish for music to have in a walkman phone... bluetooth, m2 memory card, headphones etc. Call quality is pretty good and that volume helps a lot.
Now the not so good news... The first thing you'll realize is just how smooth this phone is... it doesn't inspire confidence it'll stay in your hand... not to mention the phone is a small phone so in large hands like mine it tended to feel like it'll fall out. Also the keypad though nice to look at for its smoothness isn't the best thing for text messaging people... also not an advantage with big hands. Sony designed this phone to be more basically a music phone than feature ridden and you will find that out when trying to download themes... these isn't any, or at least I was unable to... doing some digging it seems that many others were unable to do so as well. Also, Sony Ericsson was a bit stingy with the pixel quality of the screen... it really isn't the sharpest LCD to look at and at 176 x 220 sizes, you'll feel like you were watching an old Motorola v600 rather than a New Sony Ericsson w395. The menus are all basic, and some of the commands are a little dull. The camera isn't the best quality at 2mp, but it does its job.
All in all, if you are looking for a phone in which music is your priority, and not so much the screen quality and features, then buy this phone without hesitation... you'll thank yourself for doing so. But if you are like me who needs a slightly bigger phone and more image quality and features phone wise, then try another in the walkman range... the w760i and w705a are good alternatives in that sense.

Its stylish design and seemingly incomparable range of features all in a compact phone, would please any gadget fan, music afficionado or even fashionista. This phone is all that and a whole lot more.
Packed with the Walkman 2.0 software and a 1 Gig Memory Stick Micro M2, you can just imagine the amount of music you can store with this phone. The firmware supports up to an 8 Gig expansion should the M2 be available in that capacity already in the future. This phone also supports A2DP Bluetooth Stereo headset profile which means this is completely compatible with any device like the Sony Ericsson A2DP Bluetooth Stereo receiver (MBR-100) or the Sony DR-BT30Q Bluetooth Stereo headset which I prefer to use with it.
Other than that just like it's predecessors, it comes with 2.0 Megapixel camera. This should be sufficient for day to day use although should you opt for a camera phone with a higher resolution, this phone is not for you.
The screen resolution is a compact version of the W900 series so the display is really crisp and clear. The screen resolution is higher than the W800i or even the W810i.
Only setback might be for people with big hands. The keypad would not be appropriate for them. This phone would be very difficult for them to use.
Lastly, this phone comes with 3G and a VGA camera for video calls. The last feature not only seals the sweet deal, but you would never find another phone out there in such a compact state with all these features which can literally fit in your left shirt pocket.

1. The number keys are a little on the stiff side. Not unusable, but a little stiffer than the w350 or k550.
2. This phone does have some creaks and wiggles. However, I found that much of the creaking in the open position was actually caused by the battery lid, which I fixed by sandwiching a sheet of toilet paper under it.On to the real features, most of them pretty good...>> Sound quality AND volume
The w595 has the clarity of the old k550, but both the earpiece and the ringer loudspeaker are louder. It's not as loud as the ringer on the w350, which is among SonyEricsson's loudest for some reason, but it's still louder than the k550, w200, and about as loud as the z310 (without the z310's poor quality).
It has loudspeakers on both the top and bottom of the phone.>> Display
This phone has a display with good brightness and color saturation, and SonyEricsson's new light sensor to adjust the display brightness based on ambient light (i.e., in a movie theater, the display automatically drops to low, but boosts to full in bright sunlight).
The viewing angle is not as wide as the w350 or k550. It is mainly for direct viewing, but there appears to be a tradeoff because viewing the display horizontally (for videos) is actually better than most other phones. Most phones look good in the "normal" position, but look bad when turned 90 degrees. This one is good both ways, as long as you look straight at it.
The 240x320 resolution is really good for mobile web browsing (especially with Opera Mini), Google maps, reading emails, and everything else.
It's more visible in sunlight than most phones.>> Camera
Pretty decent image quality, though it lacks auto-focus (SonyEricsson seems to be reserving this feature for their new Cybershot models, so I wouldn't expect it elsewhere any more). The shutter responds fairly fast, which is actually an advantage over the autofocus models as long as you don't need to take pictures less than a few feet from the subject.
If you like to take photos as a way of making a quick note of something (like a product package), you can still do this. Take the picture a few feet back so it isn't out of focus, and use the volume keys to zoom in on the image when you want to read it.>> Java applications
It runs games, Opera Mini, and Google Maps very well. Opera Mini starts up in just under 5 seconds. Much like the k550, the w595 will run almost any games.
***Upgrade: the new menu system lets you create a shortcut directly to a Java application (as long as it is in the Applications folder). I have the right-arrow shortcut set to load Opera Mini, so it can be accessed as quickly as the built-in browser.>> Video playback
In addition to playing 3gp video, the W595 is one of the few phones which will actually play MP4 videos. Some phones claim it, but actually require you to convert it to a 3gp. True MP4 videos are much higher quality than 3gp. I was able to play an hour-long science lecture I downloaded, which makes this cool phone "educational".
NOTE: do NOT play videos by finding them through the "Media" menu. This new media menu is a fancy-looking scrolling interface which is completely unnecessary and causes video playback to lose sync with the audio. A firmware update "fixed" this by forcing the audio to synchronize every few seconds, which still looks like crap. Use the File Manager like a civilized human, and all of this trouble goes away. It's located in the Organizer menu, and you can make a shortcut to it if desired.>> Email client
As I write this, my w595 is push-enabled by using the IMAP feature offered by GMail. As of last year, both Gmail and Yahoo have IMAP support for free. This sends you email to the phone without having to dial out manually to "check" it. I ignorantly declared that previous models did not support this without a carrier service, but it turns out some did (but no free email services offered it).
The email setup is also much easier. I just entered my GMail address/password, and SonyEricsson is clever enough to find all of the correct server/port settings for GMail. It was also smart enough to check if GMail supported IMAP, and asked me if I wanted to use it ("yes please!").
Regular POP3 is of course also supported, if you don't want a constant email connection.>> Accelerometer
This is the kind of thing the iPhone and Wii have, so the phone can sense movement. It's not an entirely practical feature, but it adds "coolness" if you want to impress your friends with a bubble level (available on the SonyEricsson website).>> RSS Reader
If you don't know what that is, skip this section and save hours of your life. If you are already using RSS and you want the Internet to be force-fed to you, this latest version offers improvements over the previous models:
- Set update times for any or all hours of the day, individually for each feed.
- New stuff shows up in a popup scroller on the home screen, with photos if available.>> Multi-tasking
It seems to handle running one application while one or two others are minimized. To minimize a Java application, press the END key ONCE, and select minimize (pressing it twice closes it).
It offers full menu access during phone calls, so you can do things like check your tasks/calendar while talking to someone. Java applications can be run during the call, but Internet access appears to be disabled and media files won't play.>> Organizer
As usual, SonyEricsson offers a good alarm clock which provides the only structure in my life. New and existing features:
- Multiple alarms
- Set any of them to either repeated (on whatever days you choose), or one time
- Use ANY sound on the phone as an alarm
- Adjust the volume for individual alarms (morning wakeup full volume, tea time a pleasant low)
- Add a picture to display
- Add a text description.
The organizer also include a lot of other good stuff, such as:
- Tasks, with instructions and reminders on set dates/times.
- Notes, so you can store notes without resorting to SMS drafts.
- Calendar, timer, stopwatch, etc.>> Shortcut/event menu
This is one of many models with a really handy button which brings up a custom shortcut menu. It's complex to explain, but really handy to use.
The shortcut menu has 4 "tabs":
- New events (usually a missed call, new message, or a task due)
- Running applications
- My Shortcuts
- Internet
Unless something special is happening, clicking the shortcut key will bring up your shortcuts. If something special is happening (new event or running application), that tab will automatically come up. You can use the left/right keys to switch tabs at any time.
This shortcut key works at all times (e.g., while on a phone call or while browsing the Internet). Thus, you can be browsing the Internet, and if you hear the message alert, you can click the shortcut key to bring up the message and close it again without closing the browser. Or if you minimized an application to do something else, you can click the shortcut key to bring up the list of running applications without navigating to it.>> Track ID
This is a really neat feature included with many of the Walkman phones (and a few non-walkman models). If a song is playing on the radio, in a store, etc, and you don't know what it is, Track ID will record some of it, and connect to some Internet server which will tell you the song/band. It's not perfect, but it works much better than you might expect.>> Battery life
So far, it's pretty good. I watched a 1-hour video, which is a pretty hefty task, and only lost about 15% battery capacity. I keep the email connecting running 24/7, and I use about 45 minutes of internet and/or games per day. It doesn't ever fall below 50%.The main reason I dropped one star from this phone's rating is because the housing just isn't well refined. Everything functions fine, but a 5-star phone just shouldn't have the creaks and wiggles.Yikes, that's an enormous review, and I don't feel like proofreading. No warranties implied.Tips and stuff:
1. Don't use the Media menu to play videos (see above).
2. If you are going to use IMAP for email access instead of POP3, make sure you are using GMail correctly or it will try to download every email you ever received (I will post a detailed explanation in the comments).
3. The battery lid sucks. Just pry it up from the obvious spot, as wrong as it feels. Careful, it may spring out and attack you. If it creaks when closed, see my ghetto fix (also in the comments section).
4. You can set the slider to end the call, or not end the call, via an option in the settings menu.

But if you are looking for an entertainment unit, then my friends this is a no brainer.
I used to own the k750i and sold it to purchase this. The k750i and the w800i are the EXACT same phones except for cosmetic changes, a huge memory stick for the w800i, and brilliant headphones that come with this.
The reason I sold my k750i was that I was having constant issues with the software. It kept shutting down and gave me headaches because of it. It also had an unfortunately flimsy case. Most k750i sets have squeaking issues. So I got the w800i and man it is sweet. The case feels solid and sturdy. It actually feels like a $500 phone. Aside from that, I just love the Walkman brand. (I know how stupid that sounds)
Pros:
1. It has half a gig of memory for your music and sports the walkman brand -- nostalgia city for 25 year olds like myself. Plus the headphones are sweet as sin. They even come with three separate ear bud sizes. And when you put them on, without even turning on the music you can hear your heart beat... yes they are that snug. Plus they are extremely easy to put around your neck with the attachment that comes with them. The equalizer is also quite good, and with mega bass on, there is nothing short of an ipod that rivals this.
2. Like the k750i, java games of all sorts for this set can be found on the net, though download with care in case something corrupts your software. You are better off downloading games made for/or by well known brands. [...]
3. Superb camera and outstanding FM radio reception. The camera is different only cosmetically to the k750i, in that the shutter in this is handled via switch while in the k750i it is opened/closed by hand. I actually prefer the camera shutter system in the w800i.
Semi Con:
When turned off, I definitely think that the k750i looks sexier than the w800i. It has a beautiful black/silver look etc. The w800i looks odd when turned off, since it is basically white with orange colors. However when the w800i is turned on, there is NO competition. The orange screen and the orange back light go deliciously well with the case and it looks quite brilliant.
Bottom line is that this phone rocks!
EDIT:
I just wanted to add a couple more comments. Firstly I still haven't had any of the issues I had had with the k750i. I also wanted to note that taking pictures has been faster with this phone. It could very well be because the k750i had come with older firmware (which can be updated from the official website though can be risky if you don't know what you are doing).
But whatever the reason may be, every time I took a photo with the k750i I had to wait a few more seconds for it to be processed than I have had to with the w800i.
One last advantage I have noticed is that with the w800i, the music library is superbly organized. Whenever I hit the 'walkman' button, I am quickly taken to a screen where music is organized by, "Artists", "Tracks", "Playlists", and "Videos".

(More customer reviews)I was up for a two year contract renewal for ATT and for months now I have wanted an iPhone but I've waited for the 3G, or at least the second generation, iPhone... my trusty SE s710a was still good but I figured if I have to sign a new 2yr with the iPhone anyway, why not get a free phone out of it?
After looking at the lackluster selection of phones by ATT, I was captured by the style of the w580i. So I figured I would give it a try... and I am not regretting it a bit!
This phone is much smaller than the monster I had before, and unlike older SE phones, the UI is very snappy. If you read most online reviews, they speak the truth. The keypad is small but after a little while you get used to it. T9 is much improved over my previous phone.
The camera is OK, nothing special. But it's better quality then the iPhone!
Call quality is superb. Feels comfortable in your hand during prolonged periods of time. I have had many friends say that the sound quality on their end is much improved over my previous s710a. The loudspeaker on this can get LOUD but it's good that way!
The Walkman function on here is killer! I works sort of like an iPhone's in how smoth it functions. There's a dedicated WKM button, anytime you need to go to the app, click it and you jump to the WKM program, click it again and you go right back to where you were!
The sliding function has been solid so far, only time will tell if it lasts. The keys have been reported to crack easily- one reason I'm not discarding my s710a yet... we'll see. But that's not a reason to not buy this phone. I love it to death right now and it will deffinately hold me over till I get a 2nd or 3rd gen iPhone!
BTW the SanDisk 4GB MemoryStick Micro M2 card works perfectly fine with this phone. And since the phones memory is only about 14MB, it's DEFFINTELY worth the extra cost to get one.
UPDATE 02/2008: After using this phone daily for several months now, I am still loving it. The walkman is somewhat solid, and file transfers from the phone and a iMac is smooth. Pictures look good, especially in daylight- night shots are very unimpressive.
I hate the the ATT Internet button on the front. Both shortcut buttons are not re-assignable, so every time i click that button it tries to connect to the internet, which i disabled... very annoying. But nothing to keep me from recommending this phone for the price you can get it with,
Constuction has been holding up. The plastic is clicking a little, but I think it will be OK. The screen is amazingly crack/scratch resistant.
Phone call quality isnt as stellar as I first said, but much improved over the s710. I think real flip phones still have better phone quality. Real flip phones also have a much worse UI, which for a texter is more important.

Sony Ericsson shakes things up with its new quad-band W580i Walkman phone, introducing an innovative "shake to shuffle" feature that randomly chooses another song stored on your phone with just a flick of the wrist. With the TrackID service, you can identify any song that you can hear by just recording a snippet of sound using the microphone. After sending the file for recognition, you'll have the name, artist and album sent to your phone. Other Walkman features include MegaBass enhancement for added depth of sound, a flight mode that lets you keep listening to tunes with the phone's network connectivity turned off, and Disc2Phone software for easy transfer of song files between phone and PC. (More customer reviews)I got the W980 after my trusty W810i bit the dust. And why did it die? Because Sony insists on using their crappy 12-copper pin input/output/power port. After 2 years of being in a pocket, this port gets tarnished and requires daily cleaning. Or in my case the copper pin fell off and I could no longer charge my phone! But at least Sony made these copper pins much Larger in the W980. Cleaning these suckers should be a breeze! The W980 is great for those like me who need both a phone and a mp3 player. I don't need it for extensive texting or web browsing. And the fixed 8GB memory (no SD card here) is plenty since I don't watch videos on a 2-inch screen or need to store my entire collection of mp3s. It sounds/looks great and is a bit expensive for what you get. No new ground being broken here (looks like they saved that for the xperion).

(More customer reviews)After loosing the phone (samsung 807) which came with my cingular contract, I was on hunt for a cheap, nice phone with not many internet features. Because the guy who stole my phone made huge bill using internet.
After searching for a while I fixed on w200i. And after using it for a week, I am very much satisfied. The good points are
1) Walkman player on the phone is very good. Sound quality is very good with the included earbuds. Also the included 128MB memory stick is sufficient for ~20 songs which is nice, but I want to upgrade it to 2GB stick.
2) FM radio is good
3) Voice dialing. I like the implementation of voice dialing on this phone better compared to samsung D807.
On D807, there is no user control on how a contact is to be pronounced. Based on stored conact's name, the phone assumes a pronounciation. Since names are not standard english words, this always leads to wrong assumptions.Also being from India, my accent is different from American accent. And for me,it never worked on D807 satisfactorily.
On w200i, you can record a sound and associate it with a contact. Whenever you pronounce the sound, the associated contact is called. This way I can use the correct sound for the name and also I can use nicknames. This is much better and for me more natural.
4) Sound volume is good & clear. Unlike D807, I don't have to press the phone to my ears.
5) Light weight and looks cool
6) Limited internet features. This phone comes with no net browsing facility and limited data features. This way I don't end up with extra bill for using internet, after inadvertently pressing some button (many phones I saw have the important buttons associated with internet). This is good for those like me, who don't have/want data plans.

Design The W200i follows a long tradition of beautifully designed and crafted Walkman phones from Sony Ericsson. The same candy-bar style that graced other Walkman phones is here, as are the quick access buttons below the screen that make it easy to control the phone's Walkman music features. A brilliant 128 x 160 display graces the top half of the form factor, and a convenient multi-directional joystick controls most of the phone's menus and features. The phone's VGA camera can be found on the backside of the phone. I've owned several Motorola phones in the past and was hesitant to switch to a Sony Ericsson. Since I was going to be stuck with `this' phone for the next 2-years, I spent a good amount of time researching several phones (LG, Motorola, SE, Iphone, and Samsung) and found this one was prefect. CNET gives it a very high rating!! (BTW-I would have loved to get the IPhone but I didn't want to pay the extra monthly service charges the phone requires and as a `phone' it is quite large to carry around.)
I wanted a Slide Phone but not one that was too bulky & thick and also one that had a key-pad that would (1) last and (2) had numbers that were not too small. Surprisingly CNET reviewed several phones that did not meet those simple criteria.
While I waited for my phone to be delivered, I saw the previous reviews. I became very concerned about the choice I had made. Well, I have had this phone for 2 weeks and have not seen any of the problems the other reviewers listed. I bought a 4G M2 card and have loaded a good amount of music and images. The great thing is, the computer software is free on SE's site, where Motorola made you pay for theirs.
So, to say the least, I love this phone. I LOVE the walkman 'SensMe' feature, the fact you can shake the phone to shuffle or go to the next song, and you can lift or lower the phone to change the volume... Not to mention, for the size you get a great camera and AAC/MP3 player all in one! It's prefect! Also, if I want to add web-access, I can add it later but I am not committed to an additional monthly service plan like I would have been with the I-Phone. Honestly, the list of what I love goes on.
Also, I did send SE an e-mail suggesting they read the reviews on Amazon's site. SE also provides software upgrades for their phones so if there is an issue, hopefully they would fix it. I have received an e-mail back informing me they have not had those issues reported as of yet but would look into them.
I HIGHLY recommend this phone! And it easily deserves the 5-stars I have given it!!!

(More customer reviews)A long-time Motorola phone user now converted. Not only is this phone lightweight and amazing looking, it's feature packed.
Pros:
- Crystal-clear calling. No static and loud when needed.
- The screen is amazing. The resolution is awesome. By far the best I've ever seen on a phone this size.
- This phone is tiny; in a good way. Super-slim and tucks nicely in your pocket. Being that it's a slider, you'll never have to worry about pocket-dialing. :)
- The software is very easy to navigate. This is nicely improved over the Motorola interface of my older RAZR.
- The MP3 player rocks; no pun intended. The Walkman software lets you sort by Artists, Albums, Tracks, Playlists and more. This is light-years ahead of the my old RAZR's MP3 player. This one rivals any standalone MP3 device I've used.
- The stereo headphones that comes with it include a 3.5mm adapter. While the included headphones sound great, this adapter gives you the flexibility to use your Bose, Shure or other stereo headphones. A very nice option.
- Unlike "some" other sliders, the camera is protected and kept under cover when the slide is closed. This works great in keeping dust off the lens.
- The 2.0MP camera is actually pretty good. It takes great outdoor photos.
- I LOVE the fitness/step counter. It measures distance in steps and calculated miles along with the calories you've burned. It also keeps a daily average and each days results.
Cons:
- No 3G
- Sony Proprietary Memory Stick Micro M2 versus easy to find and less expensive MicroSD
- No LED Flash or Photo Light
In conclusion, if you are looking for a super-slim phone with great call quality and superb music capability, look no further. This Sony wears the Walkman name with pride.
Note: I bought a SanDisk SDMSM2-4096-A11M 4GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) and it works perfectly. 4GB of music!!!

Phone Features The W580i Walkman phone offers a full-function digital audio player that's compatible with MP3 and AAC files. The front of this slider phone includes dedicated music control buttons, and it includes Sony Ericsson's innovative "shake to shuffle" feature. With Shake control activated, press and hold the Walkman key and flick your wrist. A vibration lets you know that the track has been changed--a new song from your current playlist is randomly selected and automatically played.
With the TrackID service, you can identify any song that you can hear by just recording a snippet of sound using the microphone. After sending the file for recognition, you'll have the name, artist and album sent to your phone. Other Walkman features include MegaBass enhancement for added depth of sound, a flight mode that lets you keep listening to tunes with the phone's network connectivity turned off, and Disc2Phone software for easy transfer of song files between phone and PC. It also includes a built-in FM radio with RDS, which displays the name of the currently playing song (when tuned to compatible radio stations).
This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.
The built-in 2.0 megapixel camera captures stills and video--and playback of video or still pictures is only limited to the memory card size. Picture effects and custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be setup to fit your personality. It provides support for PictBridge technology so you can print your photos without the need of a PC (either using USB or Bluetooth).
