Sony Ericsson G900i Unlocked Triband 5.0 MP PDA Phone (Red) Review

Sony Ericsson G900i Unlocked Triband 5.0 MP PDA Phone (Red)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The G900 is a worthy successor to the Sony Ericsson P1i. It fact, its is every bit as good and even better than the Sony Ericsson Walkman Flagship W960i.
Though it uses the same Symbian UIQ3 platform as the P1i, the user interface has been polished with the addition of easy to use home screen panels. You can add panels for different applications like messaging, music player, application shortcuts, tasks and calender. These home screen panels make the phone much more user friendly than the P1i and the W960i.
The G900 also has a much improved media manager for your pictures, movies, and music files. The media application would be familiar to people who use the PSP and the PS3. It has the feel and looks like the media crossbar that Sony uses in its Playstation line.
The G900 also has a 5 mega pixel camera with a picture light. The light can also be used as a bright flash light which can be handy in an emergency situation. The pictures taken by the camera can be a little washed out and lack the vibrant colors of some better 5MP camera phones like the Nokia N95.
It has a traditional candy bar form factor. It is much slimmer and smaller than the P1i and the W960i. This makes it a lot more user friendly and more pocketable. Its size combined with its easy to use user interface makes this phone attractive to people who want smart phone capabilities but don't want to deal more complex to use phones. Simply put, this is the best smart phone that Sony Ericsson has made to date...until the Xperia X1 is released at least. :)
Pros:
-Great touchscreen. The screen is bright and vivid.
-Very slim and light for a smart phone with so many features.
-Easier to use UIQ3 interface with the addition of panels
-Excellent media manager and music player
-Five megapixel camera with innovative touch focus
-Excellent connectivity with bluetooth and WIFI and GPRS
Cons:
-Does not support EDGE or US 3G networks (Supports UMTS 2100 for European 3G)
-Though it takes 5MP pictures, the pictures are not as vibrant as other 5MP camera phones
-Lack of built in GPS
-Base package does not have any memory stick included
-The Opera web browser could be better and does not support flash

In general the handset is pretty impressive certainly the best I have seen on any SE device I have owned recently. The slider is pretty solid & even after a number of weeks of use their has been no degradation in it's action. The only obvious weak point I would say is the camera 3.2M pixels. The build materials are a nice mix of metal & plastic, I especially like the hardened glass used on the display which certainly seems to live up to it's non-scratch nature so far. Overall though maybe not quite reaching the very best of Samsung phones, it is much better built than any N series device I have owned of late. Be interesting to see how it holds up over time.

Brand New Sidekick LX 2009 SHARP PV300 GSM Unlocked - T-Mobile Retail Box (Carbon Black) Review

Brand New Sidekick LX 2009 SHARP PV300 GSM Unlocked - T-Mobile Retail Box (Carbon Black)
Average Reviews:

Sick and tired of being tied to a contract with AT&T, I want to go for prepaid. I did some researches on several phones including the Sidekick LX. Finally, I decided to abandon my iPhone and go for the Sidekick. Since T-Mobile stop offering data plan for Sidekick, I can use this smartphone without spending extra bucks (for the data plan that I rarely use). Its well designed keyboard make it a perfect phone for texting...
Pros:
- Battery life
- Cool keyboard
- Fast
- Sturdy built
- Sound quality
- 3.1 Megapixel Camera
- Easy to use
- No contract
Cons:
- None so far

I ordered this phone for a 2 week trip around Europe! I have to say that the phone worked like a charm...the best part of the phone is the fact that it is a dual SIM phone. I was able to carry my international SIM and my t-mobile SIM in the same phone no problem. Granted the phone is from china, but come on what phones out there aren't from that part of the world. Reception was fine and switching out SIMs was no problem. The keys are a little small, but one can adjust once they have played with the phone for a while. Overall the phone worked great and I will use it again on my next trip out of the country.

Frequently Asked Questions Activating Your Service: Simply make a call in order to activate your National Geographic Talk Abroad SIM Card. Your service is valid for 12 months from the day of activation. Please note that while the service does work in North America (in areas with GSM coverage), the service is intended for use overseas and therefore, placing a call from your handset in North America is expensive.
Your Phone Number: You will have a UK phone number, regardless of where you are traveling. Your phone number will be clearly marked on the packaging.
Checking Your Credit: You may check your credit at any time by dialing 187 on your handset. This is a free service. You will receive a text message with your current credit. You will also receive your balance total on the phone screen after each call notifying you of your current credit.
Recharging Your SIM Card: You can add talk time at any time--along with your purchase as well as prior to and during your trip. Simply call Cellular Abroad 24/7 on our toll free number and we will immediately add talk time for you using your account information already on file or an alternative credit card. Additional call credit is $29, which equals 30 minutes of talk time for most popular destinations. Each time you add call credit or "recharge" your account, you will extend your service life for an additional 12 months from the date of the recharge. Previous call credit will accumulate to your new call credit.
Making and Receiving Calls: When you make a call, charges begin only when the other party answers the call or if the call goes to voicemail. Outgoing and incoming call charges, where applicable, are based on 60-second intervals.
Voicemail: Your voicemail is already activated. You can access your voicemail system from your handset. (It's the cost of a call to the UK.) From your handset, you dial a 3-digit number as per our instructions and follow the prompts to listen to messages. You will receive a text message alerting you of any new voicemails.
PLEASE NOTE: Voicemail will only pick up under the following circumstances--when the phone is on but not answered, when the line is busy (phone is in use) or when the phone is switched off.
SMS: You can send and receive SMS text messages from your National Geographic Talk Abroad SIM Card. However, neither we nor any carrier can guarantee that you will always be able to send and receive SMS messages in all circumstances and in all countries. SMS text messages are free to receive and are $0.60 to send, regardless of the country.
Is This a Call Back Type of Service? If you purchase the National Geographic Talk Abroad Travel Phone, the calls go through seamlessly and there is no call back. If you rent a phone or purchase a stand alone SIM card, there is a call back feature. What this means is that when you place an outgoing call, the phone will ring and you will need to press a key to respond as if someone were calling you. Why does this occur? When you place a call, your phone is actually sending a text message to the number and when the call is connected, it notifies the caller by ringing back.
How Do I Dial To/From My National Geographic Talk Abroad Phone? To dial to your phone from a US or Canada phone, dial 011-44 and then the number (011 is to get an international line and 44 is the country code for the UK, which the service is based out of). To dial from your National Geographic phone, if you have purchased the National Geographic Talk Abroad Travel Phone package, dial the country code followed by the area code and the phone number (ex. 1-212-555-1212). If you purchased just the SIM card or are renting a phone, you will need to dial 00 followed by the country code, area code and phone number.

I ordered this phone which was advertised as new. I received an obviously not new phone in a non-Samsung box with a misspelled word on the box. The phone, battery (not a Samsung battery) and cord were each loose and rattling around in the box. The phone box was loose in a larger box with no shipping cushioning at all. I returned it and did get my money back.
Needless to say, I do not recommend the OEM Shop and feel that Amazon should remove them as a supplier.

Motorola W259 Pink with Consumer Cellular Service (No Contract) Review

Motorola W259 Pink with Consumer Cellular Service (No Contract)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you were thinking of switching to Consumer Cellular for your mobile phone needs, think again. If you parents ask you about them, mentioning great AARP deals with them, advise them to steer well clear. The adage 'you get what you pay for' comes to mind, but even cheap rates should not mean that a company will flat out refuse to support a product sold by them via Amazon.com.
The experience I had was simple - my parents were visiting, they were taking some weeks to drive around the country and were here on the opposite coast from where they live when my mother's phone from Consumer Cellular - a Motorola w259 - stopped working right. I look at it, see its a sim card phone, and hit the web to find out how to get a replacement. I find one here on Amazon.com, from Consumer Cellular no less, and order it up for next day delivery.
That is where the fun began. The cliff notes version is simple, once we received the phone and contacted Consumer Cellular about setting it up we were treated rudely and told they would not support it. They actually seemed insulted that we had purchased the phone from Amazon.com (and I hope that Amazon.com mines their reviews and thinks twice about providing such a poor excuse for a company a venue) and then were angry when we politely asked to escalate the issue. They were adamant that we purchase a replacement phone directly from them, stating it was the only acceptable way, and that it would take 5 business days to arrive at least. Which of course is not a feasible option for when people are on the opposite side of a continent from where they live, and are traveling. Throughout the ordeal they were condescending, demeaning, and rude.
So AARP will be hearing about this, and I am going to hit Amazon.com's customer service also to let them know about how Consumer Cellular is not the sort of company they want to partner with. Pure rip off.
Oh, and the phone. They are junk, plain and simple.

Hearing Aid Compatibility
Many cell phones on the market today are designed to work with (or at least not interfere with) hearing aids. The FCC regulates the classification of hearing aid compatible phones. Those that are compatible with hearing aids are identified with a rating of M3/T3 (good) or M4/T4 (excellent). The "M" stands for microphone and the "T" stands for telecoil coupling, or t-coil.

The Motorola W259 has an M3/T3 rating.

Vital Statistics The Motorola W259 weighs 3.32 ounces and measures 3.74 x 1.77 x 0.67 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 9 hours of talk time, and up to 432 hours (18 days) of standby time. It runs on the 850/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies.

Consumer Cellular Services
Consumer Cellular puts you in control of your cell phone usage with multiple plans, all designed to fit specific needs and budgets--from unique lower use rate plans that start at only $10.00 per month up to plans offering thousands of minutes. Consumer Cellular also offers discounts to AARP members. When you go through the sign-up process, you'll find out more about these special benefits.

Once you pick a plan, you can share your minutes with loved ones through our Family Share plan. It's a flexible and low-cost way to keep in touch. And you can add family members to your plan for only $10 a month per line.

You can also change your plan at any time--no hassles, no penalties, no ifs-ands-or-buts, or surprises. Plus, automated Usage Alerts help you avoid unnecessary overage charges.

Starting your service is simple and immediate. Either call Consumer Cellular at its toll-free line or activate your cell phone at your own convenience online.

Consumer Cellular service advantages include:

No Contracts, No Penalties. Nearly all cellular companies require you to sign a one or two year contract just to start your cell phone service. Not Consumer Cellular.
Risk Free Guarantee. We stand behind our service. Try us. If you're not satisfied for any reason, you can cancel your service anytime within the free trial period and pay nothing.
No Surprises. Consumer Cellular account statements are easy to read, and you may review and manage your account from the Web at any time. Best of all, the free automated Usage Alerts service monitors your usage for you--so you don't have to. You'll be notified whenever you approach your plan's included minutes, so you can upgrade in time to avoid overage charges.
It's Your Phone Number, Go ahead and Keep it. If you have an active cellular number in an area where we provide service, you can keep that same phone number when you sign up with us.

Consumer Cellular Plans
Anywhere Casual ($10 monthly fee): If you rarely use a cell phone but want the comfort and safety of owning one, then the Anywhere Casual plan is the one for you. Most customers on this plan use 20 cell phone minutes or less per month, and sometimes none at all. No minutes are included with this plan, with each minute charged at 25¢.

Anywhere 250 ($20 monthly fee): If you think you'll use the phone more often than 20 minutes, then the Anywhere 250 might be right for you. It includes 250 call time minutes (about 4 hours) at any time, on any day of the week. Additional minutes cost 25¢ per minute or you can upgrade to the next plan. Depending on how much you want to use your phone, you can choose this plan or another Consumer Cellular with more minutes. And you can always upgrade in time to avoid overage charges as well as share free minutes with loved ones for only $10.00 more per month per line.

Anywhere 500 ($30 monthly fee): This plan provides 500 call time minutes (over 8 hours) and additional minutes cost 25¢ per minute.

Anywhere 1000 ($40 monthly fee): This plan provides 1000 call time minutes (nearly 17 hours) and additional minutes cost 25¢ per minute.

Anywhere 1500 ($50 monthly fee): This plan provides 1500 call time minutes (about 25 hours) and additional minutes cost 25¢ per minute.

Anywhere 2000 ($60 monthly fee): This plan provides 2000 call time minutes (over 33 hours) and additional minutes cost 25¢ per minute.

Text Messaging
Messaging is a quick and efficient way to keep in touch with loved ones, especially your children. Consumer Cellular's messaging service lets you send and receive both text messages. You can use your cellular phone to send and receive text messages of up to 160 characters, exchange text messages with another cell phone or "message" via email.

The Standard text messaging option requires no monthly charge, but provides no pre-set number of messages--charging you 10¢ per message. You can select messaging package ranging from 100 messages a month (for $2.50) to 2000 messages (for $20)--all with additional messages beyond the package limited charged at 10¢ per message.

Sony Ericsson W508 Tri-band Cell Phone - Unlocked Review

Sony Ericsson W508 Tri-band Cell Phone - Unlocked
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this about a week ago from Amazon, excellent cellphone is all I can say. I considered the Z550a I was using before a masterpiece, but the W508a is even better. The phone has a slick design and it's very lightweight and low profile. The Z550a was slightly bulky in comparison.
I get no signal problems and battery lasts for about 5 days with normal use. I have a Sony Ericsson HBHDS980 Stereo Bluetooth Headset that goes with it. With music heavy streaming I can use it for a whole day before it needs recharge.
The headset is feature rich and I have mostly explored the music features and they all work really well. The SensMe feature is just awesome because I don't always feel like selecting 30 to 40 music tracks to listen, with SensMe the player does it for me according to my mood. The phone has superb voice quality and can ring loudly.
The only complain is the external display doesn't show the clock permanently like the Z550 did. I wish I didn't had to open it to look at the clock. Perhaps a feature coming with a new firmware. Another minor complaint is that the vibration is rather weak, again compared to the Z550a. But I can still feel the phone ringing, I'll have to see if I can feel the phone ringing on my pocket when in a loud place.
