Sony Ericsson G900i Unlocked Triband 5.0 MP PDA Phone (Red) Review

Sony Ericsson G900i Unlocked Triband 5.0 MP PDA Phone (Red)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The G900 is a worthy successor to the Sony Ericsson P1i. It fact, its is every bit as good and even better than the Sony Ericsson Walkman Flagship W960i.
Though it uses the same Symbian UIQ3 platform as the P1i, the user interface has been polished with the addition of easy to use home screen panels. You can add panels for different applications like messaging, music player, application shortcuts, tasks and calender. These home screen panels make the phone much more user friendly than the P1i and the W960i.
The G900 also has a much improved media manager for your pictures, movies, and music files. The media application would be familiar to people who use the PSP and the PS3. It has the feel and looks like the media crossbar that Sony uses in its Playstation line.
The G900 also has a 5 mega pixel camera with a picture light. The light can also be used as a bright flash light which can be handy in an emergency situation. The pictures taken by the camera can be a little washed out and lack the vibrant colors of some better 5MP camera phones like the Nokia N95.
It has a traditional candy bar form factor. It is much slimmer and smaller than the P1i and the W960i. This makes it a lot more user friendly and more pocketable. Its size combined with its easy to use user interface makes this phone attractive to people who want smart phone capabilities but don't want to deal more complex to use phones. Simply put, this is the best smart phone that Sony Ericsson has made to date...until the Xperia X1 is released at least. :)
Pros:
-Great touchscreen. The screen is bright and vivid.
-Very slim and light for a smart phone with so many features.
-Easier to use UIQ3 interface with the addition of panels
-Excellent media manager and music player
-Five megapixel camera with innovative touch focus
-Excellent connectivity with bluetooth and WIFI and GPRS
Cons:
-Does not support EDGE or US 3G networks (Supports UMTS 2100 for European 3G)
-Though it takes 5MP pictures, the pictures are not as vibrant as other 5MP camera phones
-Lack of built in GPS
-Base package does not have any memory stick included
-The Opera web browser could be better and does not support flash

I dón't write product reviews normally, however this phone is so acomplished, so I felt inclined to share my experience for those who are looking for a well balance smartphone with very good size without communications compromises. I have been using this phone since January this year. The best fetures are: Size and weight are just perfect when you are travelling while really working at the same time, it is wifi enabled so you can avoid expensive packed data fees while still check your email on the go at airports and cafes with wifi free spots, if you are in a hurry to check internet data you still can use 3g / 3.5g data connections, it is a blazing fast smartphone with true multitasking, coming from many years using palm os I became acustomed to not have multitasking at all, but let me tell you that symbian is a great mobile OS far better than the venerable palm OS, almost any application you might need is available at affordable prices or even for free, the interface is also very intuitive and very easy to understand. While it is a very good communicator, it is not a phone for all, because its multimedia capabilities are in the medium to low level, the camera is just for occasional pictures that do not require neither a flash nor a good focus and the included speaker is not stereo so you need a good headset with stereo output to listen to your tunes, radio has not RDS, these are the characteristics I like to improve, however probably that requires a larger and heavier body I would not like. If you need to synchronize your mobile with your desktop just named your preferred pim application: Outlook, Lotus Notes, Lotus Organizer all could be set up to be in sync with the E51, you could even sync with your corporate services under Microsoft Internet Server. Also if you like the blackberry the E51 could run the Nokia Blackberry Connect application, even when the Nokia site has not included this model as certified for the application, it could run it without issues. What else you could desire in a phone the same size of a regular not smart one at this price level. Bottom line the slimmest S60 smartphone available with wifi and full gsm and data connections set.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Unlocked GSM Smartphone with 8 MP Camera, Android OS, Touch Screen, Wi-Fi and gps navigation--International Version with No Warranty (Black) Review

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Unlocked GSM Smartphone with 8 MP Camera, Android OS, Touch Screen, Wi-Fi and gps navigation--International Version with No Warranty (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
1. The real phone model is x10i (which I guess "i" stand for "international" version)
2. After received, I install Sony Erricson PC Companion Software which will allow me to upgrade to Android 2.1 update 1
3. Phone look nice, compact (compare to other phone same class); however the back cover made of plastic, which makes it look cheap!!!.
4. Screen protector also included (even x10i screen is anti-scratch)
5. Phone works as I expected, pretty big screen, vivid color. 8.1M camera with smile detection, and other features seem nice to have.
6. Take me a while to familiar with phone behavior, but once I get used to it, I like it.
7. Virtual keyboard is nice in landscape mode, but difficult to use in portrait mode.
8. If turn on WiFi, battery will be drained for a day, (but the same for Droid 2, Droid X). Turn off Wifi, it may last for 2 days. Set screen brightness to lowest level may extent more, and you can adjust its brightness by using widgets short cut.
9. So far, I will happy with this phone!
10. Without warranty, it might be potential problem!!!
Update on 06/16/11:
- Phone is still working :).
- Another firmware update couple months ago which allow to do "multitouch" feature on X10i now. I think it is a big reason many guys don't want to buy X10 before.
- Camera doesn't have flash (but a small LED), that will make you disappointed in dark place.

Nokia 5530 XpressMusic Unlocked Phone with Touchscreen--U.S. Version with Warranty (Black)
Average Reviews:

I am a late adapter when it comes to cell phones. So refrained from Iphones and vu/touch phones as one was mostly tied to a provider data plan or had to pay a premium for the phone itself.
If you dont care about 3g (read data plan 29.99 a month) or GPS there cannot be a better phone at this price range. Solidly built, some reviews complained about back cover. I do see an issue there as it get on the phone with little notches on all sides. But how may times you open that. Specially when SIM/SDHC is accessible from outside. The only time you need to open the back cover is when you install a battery.
What I love about this phone in order of preference.Form Factor (It looks like a phone and not a PDA)
Not tied to a provider or unlocked so you dont have to be geeky searching for unlocking/jail breaking articles.
Wifi 54G (email is good on the run)
Quad Band GSM World Phone
Media/Music playback is excellent.
Can go upto 16GB Micro SDHC (plenty of music or videos) comes with 4Gig.
Speaker phone and in general call quality for me increasd 3-5 times. (I used Razr before).
Clear brilliant screen
Touch pad responsive enough
Picture quality @3.2MP is good in daylight and flash comes in handy for pictures in lowlight (subject @2-4 ft).
What I will look for in future revisions.
USB Charging capability
A little thinner (Not that is fat right now) but it would make it sweeter.
Total Alloy body including back cover for a more solid feel.
Maybe a more rugged look/feel (non piano black or non shiny finish for e.g Zune kind of finish or finish with more friction), I always get a feeling I am going to drop it.

Blackberry 8820 Unlocked Phone with Quad-Band GSM, Wi-Fi--International Version with No Warranty Review

Blackberry 8820 Unlocked Phone with Quad-Band GSM, Wi-Fi--International Version with No Warranty
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just a stunningly, amazing & surprising value! It is decidedly more sturdy than the Curves my daughter has previously owned. Blackberries are known for their high quality & ease of use, but she can be a challenge to the sturdiest of electronics. This has all of that and more. At first, it was in my Best Buy cart, then something told me to come to Amazon. My angels were looking out for my bottom line, because all in all, I saved $30 on my purchase. My daughter likes to travel & this will be another positive feature for her.
Now, I had to update the phone via Blackberry's Desktop Manager & it took four hours, but it was well worth it. This phone has reinforced my #1 daughter's conviction that she will only use a Blackberry (my friends tease her for being hooked on crackberry).
The only drawback is that we are not able to stream any video, which caught me off guard, but, as my kids have pointed out, that is what iPads & the like are for!
You won't be disappointed.

BlackBerry Curve 8320 Phone, Titanium (T-Mobile) Review

BlackBerry Curve 8320 Phone, Titanium (T-Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The feature that differentiates this from other Blackberries is UMA - unlicensed mobile access. In contrast to the AT&T Blackberry 8820, this T-mobile 8320 allows one to SPEAK over wifi. The 8820 can only use wifi for data.
It roams seamlessly between wifi networks and EDGE/GSM networks without dropping the call. I started a call from a Starbucks wifi network and walked out of its range. The phone switched over to the GSM network without dropping the call - no problem. I then walked into my office where there is wifi, and the phone switched over to wifi.
A few interesting points:
- Calls made over UMA (ie. wifi) are much clearer. They sound like an landline phone, not a walkie talkie.
- T-mobile bills you according to where you *initiate* the call. So if you start a call at home over your wifi and then walk out, you still don't get minutes deducted from your plan.
- The UMA HotSpot@Home add-on to your T-mo contract ($20/mo unlimited UMA talking for all lines on my family plan) also includes access to Hotspots at all Starbucks Cafes and airports. I didn't need to do a thing. As soon as I get near a Starbucks, the phone finds its Hotspot wireless network and latches on.
- I have significantly decreased the amount I spend monthly on voicetime by using a MyFaves family plan ($59/mo for 1000 whenever minutes) because all calls over UMA and all calls on to my 5 selected MyFaves numbers are not deducted from that plan's minutes.
- Tmobile gave me a free wifi router ($50 with a $50 rebate) that has been optimized for UMA voice. It firmware has been set up so that the UMA (VOIP traffic) is prioritized.
- I am SO dumping my Vonage line now. Vonage's voice clarity and reliability is nowhere close, and Tmobile's customer service is fabulous in comparison.
- I live in NYC and I recall when the cell networks went down on 9/11 due to overload. One comforting thought is that this phone will not die in times of network overload that since it can work on a completely different network (ie. wifi routers connecting to regular ISPs, which kept working on 9/11).
I'm a believer.

Phone FeaturesThe Curve is fashioned in a liquid silver finish with chrome highlights and subtly curving corners. It has 64 MB of internal ROM memory, and is expandable using MicroSD memory cards. The battery provides up to 4 hours (240 minutes) of talk time and up to 17 days (408 hours) of standby time.
You can snap vivid photos (though no video) using the 2-megapixel camera on the back of the Curve, which also features a 5x digital zoom, built-in flash, self-portrait mirror and full screen viewfinder. It can capture images in up to three picture quality and size resolutions that can be shared instantly by email, MMS or BlackBerry Messenger, or even uploaded to your Flickr account with the Yahoo! Go service. Photos can also be immediately set as a unique caller ID or Home Screen image. You can edit photos and create albums within the Curve using the PhotoSuite application. Pictures can be cropped, rotated and straightened, and flaws can be fixed by removing redeye or changing the brightness, contrast, and saturation levels.
Listen to your favorite music and watch downloaded videos using the included stereo headset, or use an optional wireless headphone thanks to the Curve's support for the Bluetooth stereo audio profile (A2DP/AVRCP). The Curve is compatible with a wide variety of file formats, including MP3, WMA and AAC/AAC+/eAAC+ audio and WMV, MPEG4 and H.263 video. Dedicated volume controls are conveniently located on the side of the handset.

The phone looks great but the issue is that the browser display language is not in English. I believed is spanish language. Couldn't find Phone menu section to change the display language. Call up Amazon customer service and asked me to contact Samsung mobile. Great, this phone is not supported by US Samsung. Amazon said return the phone might charge restocking fee. :(

Nokia 5230 Quad-band GSM Cell Phone - Unlocked Review

Nokia 5230 Quad-band GSM Cell Phone - Unlocked
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After I dropped my wife's phone into a lake, it was time to get a new phone. Her phone was a prepaid T-Mobile, so we looked around for a decent replacement. Costco had this phone for sale for prepaid use at a very reasonable price, far less than above.
The good:
Free maps from Ovi Maps. Free navigation can be had by downloading maps and voice and telling the navigation program to work offline. Our phone came pre loaded with the entire US, which takes about 2 gig of the 4 gig card which was included.
Free access to the Ovi App store. We have been downloading some free apps and so far, no charges against our minutes... knock on wood.
Small size but very high resolution. It's about the length of an iPhone, but only about 3/4 as wide. The screen is 3.2" but has a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. It only has a 2mp camera, but that's plenty to shoot great video.
Bluetooth is fully functional. You can transfer files using it, unlike some other phones that only allow earpiece or speakerphone use through BT.
It comes with a 4 gig card, but with maps and pictures and music and whatever else, I can see it filling fast. It can take up to a 16 gig card.
The so so...
It comes with a little "guitar pic" thing to use the pressure sensitive touch screen. You can use your fingers too, but sometimes the things you wish to click are too small for fingers, so the pic is the better choice. Time will tell whether the touch screen is durable.
No wifi. Wifi would have been nice, but I guess this is what you give up at this price. Oh well.
As a phone...
Calls are clear and no issues with call quality. It has a proximity sensor so you don't accidentally press buttons when you hold it against your face. Dialing or texting by feel cannot be done since there is no physical number pad, it's totally touchscreen. Dialing is easy though, I have not "fat fingered" a button yet.

Voice Guidance and Traffic Information Turn-by-turn, voice guided navigation comes free for both drivers and pedestrians. Unique Hybrid Technology Ovi Maps is built on an advanced technology called hybrid vector maps. Vector maps are high quality but less data intensive and allow you to continue to navigate even if you lose your network connection. This means that maps downloaded or updated across a network connection are about half the size of bulky bitmaps used by other mobile map providers. The hybrid technology ensures that, unlike other providers, any downloaded map data is stored on the device for future use.

No Network Connection Required When Navigating Avoid expensive, battery-draining network connections with Nokia's unique hybrid technology. Maps can be pre-loaded on to your Nokia smartphone so you can set Ovi Maps to offline mode, saving battery power, and the navigation system will still work. This is particularly useful for those worried about data connection costs when travelling abroad or when you are travelling through areas with little or no network coverage.

Best Global Coverage You take your mobile with you wherever you go in the world so, as standard, voice guided navigation for both pedestrians and drivers is available for 74 countries in 46 different languages and there are maps for over 180 countries. Overall I'm impressed. Ergonomics, usability, and screen/brightness are all fantastic. Speakerphone is the best I have ever heard on any phone, ever!
Voice quality was initially quite poor, but I traced that back to an older SIM card. **UPGRADE YOUR SIM CARD.** Now voice quality is acceptable 98% of the time. The other times I just hang up and call back.
I gave only 4 stars for the following issues. Hopefully all will be fixed in future firmware upgrades:
1. WiFi does not work unless the SSID is broadcast. It simply will not associate otherwise. ('Hidden' mode is broken.)
2. WiFi does not work at all with WPA2-Enterprise (using certificates). Certs can be loaded, but the credentials always fail. WPA2-Personal is the workaround I have employed.
3. Integrated on-ear speaker (NOT speakerphone) is too quiet. I cannot hear the other party if I'm in a loud moving vehicle or noisy room. I use a Bluetooth headset with in-air speaker to accommodate.
Finally, a note about the Web/XML browser: it is awesome! I am extremely pleased with the presentation, especially for Javascript heavy sites. I like it far better than Opera for Symbian. Oh, and there are no games. Come on, Nokia!

OK..to start, I gotta say that the FREE shipping from Amazon SUCKS. So, if you want good shipping, dont use the FREE shipping that Amazon offers. Why? Tracking is horrible, tracking history is completely inaccurate.
(I used the nokia N82 before)
IF YOU REALLY WANT TO BUY THE CELLPHONE, READ THIS REVIEW. I THINK IT WILL HELP A LOT. IT IS LONG, I KNOW.
Moving on, the cellphone is good for the price. Come on, where will you get a 300$ cellphone that has all the functions that this one has? It is insane: 3.2 camera, touchscreen, more customizable than iphone, external memory, etc etc.
Regarding the touchscreen...I think it is personal taste.. I never used the iphone, and I think that this touchscreen it is VERY responsive. AFTER buying this phone and getting used to it, I used a friend's Itouch and I gotta say that my nokia 5800 is the winner. But as I said, it is personal taste. Still, it is a very responsible touchscreen (no matter you say that it is a resistive touchscreen)..like, you got no excuse..it is responsive, and it is responsive. PERIOD.
Good things about it:
-Starting to have more apps...you just gotta know where to find, for FREE.
-MACRO of the camera is awesome.
-I got the GPS with turn by turn voice direction (trial), and it is a dream. I wont know when they take away my trial...however, with voice direction, this thing it is a real GPS.
-The media button is pretty useful.
-It is legit that it unlocks when you take it close to your face when you are talking.
-Speakers are also awesome. Super loud. Sound quality when you plug in earpieces are also really nice.
-I love the cable to plug it in to the tv. I convert videos, put it on my cellphone and lay on my bed, plug the cellphone into the tv and voila. It is REALLY nice.
-About apps. Right now I have 42 but I only use maybe 8 of them lol.
-The screen it is mega-clear. It is one of the best screens ive seen.
The "so-so" of this phone:
-Build quality. It is pretty well built, however the screen it is TOO plasticky. When I put it under the sun, the reflection shows a big difference in the surface, I mean..it is not completely flat. Using the reflection of light you will realize it is not completely flat. In other words, the screen presents big flex (like in laptops, for instance). However, the rest of the cellphone is well built. If you take out the screen part of the cellphone, it is a pretty solid cellphone.
-The camera. I dont know. Sometime it takes great pictures, sometimes it stinks. When there is too much suns, it doesnt work well. When there isnt light, it also sucks. It has to have the right amount of light.
-For some people it may be ok, but this is a freaken fingerprint magnet. only the back cover it is mate. The rest of the cellphone devours fingerprint as a dinasour.
-Battery life it is not the best, but not the worst.
The bad:
-The interface it is not the friendliest. It could be better. I hope that with the update, it will be user friendlier.
-The screen. As I said, it is too flexible. It kills me to see differences with the reflection of the light (you know what im saying if you have the cellphone). It makes me hella nervous.
-Sometimes the phone in landscape mode, when you want to scroll down or up for example in some setting, it is freaking hard. I always keep tapping the wrong thing. in vertical mode this doesnt happen, because the scroll bar it is sticked to the right of the screen, so you dont have margin of error. however, in landscape mode the scroll bar is in the middle of the screen, so it gets tricky.
-Honestly, the phone it isnt the best looking phone in the market. It is just a chunk of plastic. (This is for people that care about appearances. I personally dont care, but im trying to be objective)Ok, I think this is pretty much it. If you read this, you may decide whether to buy ir or not. I think it is a pretty good phone for the price. If you are RICH and money it is not your main problem, I would say go buy yourself a N97. Oppositely, I would say definitely go for this cellphone; I like it pretty much. You wont regret it (however, remember all the things I wrote in this review). If you are ok with the cons of this cellphone, you wont regret. And in my opinion, the Pro's overcome the Con's so... I dont know, it is your call!
I hope this helped.

Best Global Coverage You take your mobile with you wherever you go in the world so, as standard, voice guided navigation for both pedestrians and drivers is available for 74 countries in 46 different languages and there are maps for over 180 countries. This gives you the best maps with the largest global coverage for free.

Amazon Video on DemandAmazon Video on Demand offers over 40,000 movie and TV titles that you can watch on the go using your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic mobile phone, and set-up is easy. You'll first need to download the Amazon Video on Demand video player (which may also be called the Amazon "Unbox" player; not compatible with Mac or Linux computers).
The Amazon Video on Demand player can download two types of videos. To save space on your computer's hard drive, the Amazon Video Player will only download the larger video file for watching in the Player. You will need to also download the smaller portable file in order to transfer your video to your 5800 XpressMusic. You can only transfer a portable version of a video if you've previously downloaded the full video to your computer using the Amazon Video Player. The 8 GB microSD memory card included with the 5800 XpressMusic should allow you to store around 15 average full-length movies

Note that you will not be able to transfer Rental Videos to your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic--only purchased videos can be transferred. For complete instructions, see this Amazon Help article.

Motorola MOTORIZR Z8 Black Unlocked Quad-band GSM Phone Review

Motorola MOTORIZR Z8 Black Unlocked Quad-band GSM Phone

This was one of the best unlocked cell phones that I have ever purchased. I get bored easily, so I am frequently purchasing new cell phones. I have Nextell, AT&T and Virgin Mobile service. Buying unlocked cell phones saves me from having to commit to lengthy contracts or extending my service. This cell phone looked very sharp and has all the gadgets and gizmo's that I like on a phone.

Sony Ericsson P1 Unlocked Triband PDA Wifi Phone (Black) Review

Sony Ericsson P1 Unlocked Triband PDA Wifi Phone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used to have a sony Ericsson P910. I regret the day I replaced with this phone.
I'll start with the positive: the battery does last a long time. That's about it.
The bad: the phone is full with software problems or driver problems. It started with losing the link with a Sony Ericsson bluetooth hands free i had. I though it was the ear piece but I tested and it was ok. I had to delete it and re-pair it almost every day.
Then it continued with not recognizing phone numbers in the phonebook; so if someone in your phonebook called you, one could not see its name or photo and offered you to save the number at the end of the call. It didn't matter if you accepted to save the number, the next time it would go all over again.
The voice dialing is useless.
The contact thought which you charge and connect the phone to the computer is poorly designed and was nearly impossible to get good contact. The last issue I have is that the battery status indicator stopped working; it show full all the time until your phone runs out of battery.
Another issue is that the keys you use for dialing don't have the standard three letters so if you are going to dial say, 1-800-FOR-SONY, it's going to be hard to figure out the actual number.
The phone is really slow
My experience with sony ericsson has not been very satisfactory.
STAY AWAY!!

Firstly let me start with the biggest plus of the N95 - its opennness and unlocked nature.
Everyone now seems to compare every phone with the iPhone ...
so here goes
N95 is unlocked - free unbridled unlocked goodness
- (for people like me who often travel abroad this is a huge plus for not having to beg your service provider to please unlock your phone that you paid money for.
N95 has a replaceable battery - means additional life for your phone and you won't have to discard a high-end device when your low-end battery inside dies - compare that to the iphone.
N95 is a open development platform - for techy users and everyone else also - this means more apps developed free for this platform (S60) rather than other closed and locked down platforms.
N95 supports bluetooth tethering to laptops and PDA's. I use my Nokia N810 Internet tablet to connect wirelessly by tethering over Bluetooth to my N95 high speed HSDPA data connection. This means I get fast internet connectivity everywhere - everywhere there is a cell tower at least.
For those less in the know iPhone doesnt support tethering.
N95 has support for A2DP Bluettoth profile - which means you can listen to Stereo music over a bluetooth headphone (like the Motorola S9). This is apart from support bluetooth headset for talking.
For iPhone users , in todays wireless day, you still have to use a wired headphone to listen to music - pretty messy.
N95's 5 MP camera is one of the best of breed in any cellphone - quality wise of photos.
N95-3 has one of the fastest 3G HSDPA data connection support in the US. (iphone 3g does have this too)
Also the Wifi and GPS in the N95 come is handy when you need those features instantly.
As a in-car GPS it certainly does not fit the bill, but when walking in the streets of NY, and you suddenly need to get some info or directions - GPS and the Wifi come in most useful.
For me having a good quality camera for instant shots (instead of caring a dedicated camera always) and the USA 3G HSDPA is what convinced me to go for the Nokia N95 over other similar featured phones (iPhone is definitely not similar featured - its a different class for me).
On a comparatove note the Nokia N78, E71, N82 and Samsung G series are comparable devices depending on which feature set you lay more importance on.
And for those who find the camera slow - please update the software with the latest N95 firmware that Nokia released recently - it speeds up the camera a lot and also some other features.
The battery on my new Nokia N95-3 lasts 1 1/2 day with HSDPA 3,5G usage in NY/NJ area and I use it daily to tether to my N810 device (which gives me touchscreen internet).
