If you are looking for a non-apple smartphone, this is it.
Primary function, being a phone, is outstanding. The phone has a good reception and you are able to have clear conversations even in noisy environments like games or construction sites.
Additionally, it is full of features with out of the box google integration. The screen is amazing and very responsive. Gps, camera and wi-fi works as expected. The full qwerty slider keyboard works great, however keys are too flat. Form factor is adequate. The phone is slim and not so heavy.
Despite of the bugs mentioned in several forums, I haven't found any. The piece I got came already with the Android 2.1 update and works straightforward.
It deserve a "well done" for the engineers at Motorola.

BlackBerry Curve 8320 Phone, Pale Gold (T-Mobile) Review

BlackBerry Curve 8320 Phone, Pale Gold (T-Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had the BlackBerry 8700g for a year and really liked it, but just decided to upgrade to the Curve. I've only had the Curve for a few days and I already absolutely love it. Smaller, lightweight, with a more efficient means of typing a message by being able to use the trackball for editing. I love that the Curve has a camera where the 8700g does not. And it has a flash--double bonus points. It's very easy to use and with the 8700g I beceme very spoiled with being able to get my email wherever I go. Now in addition to that, I have WiFi, so the Curve will hook up to the closest WiFi connection and I have even faster internet capabilities with it. I also love that I can go anywhere and use my BlackBerry as a modem for my laptop. The BlackBerry tech support department at T-Mobile helped me set the 8700g and then the Curve as modems when I purchased them. Using this function I don't have to pay the absurd prices to connect to a HotSpot of any kind. (I just keep my cable in my backpack that I carry my laptop in.) There are lots of features I haven't had the opportunity to explore and am not sure how to use, like the music capabilities. I suppose it would help if I read my manual. :o)

Adding a fashionable touch to Research in Motion's formidable arsenal of telephonic, PIM, and media tools, the BlackBerry 8320 Curve for T-Mobile is also the smallest, lightest BlackBerry phone that includes a full QWERTY keyboard. This amalgam of the svelte BlackBerry Pearl and the more business-oriented 8800 combines RIM's long-valued corporate email and messaging platform with a host of advanced multimedia features, including a 2-megapixel camera and stereo Bluetooth (for listening to music via wireless headphones). In addition to its quad-band GSM and EDGE connectivity, it also offers Wi-Fi connectivity for access to the Internet and email as well as access to T-Mobile's Hotspot @Home service. This version comes in pale gold, but it's also available in titanium.
T-Mobile Service Options With T-Mobile HotSpot @Home service, you'll effortlessly transition between Wi-Fi calling and T-Mobile's wireless network while you talk. You can get unlimited nationwide calls over Wi-Fi--at home via your wireless router or at any U.S. T-Mobile HotSpot. You can also use the HotSpot @Home service via most open, or unsecured, wireless routers, as well as any secured wireless router for which you have access to the password from the owner. This phone is compatible with the 802.11b/g Wi-Fi standard as well as the following wireless security protocols: WEP, WPA (TKIP), WPA2 (AES-CCMP), LEAP, PEAP, EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS, EAP-FAST, EAP-SIM, EAP-AKA. Whenever you're not using a Wi-Fi network, the Curve works just like a regular mobile phone, using your Whenever Minutes under your T-Mobile voice plan.
This phone also includes compatibility with T-Mobile's myFaves service, which allows you to call up to five of your most common contacts--on any network, even landlines--without using any of your minutes. Learn more about myFaves from T-Mobile.
Staying Connected With BlackBerry's push email technology, your email will find you without having to initiate a connection. BlackBerry devices are designed to remain on and continuously connected to the wireless network, notifying you as new email arrives. In addition to the text, you can also receive and view attachments in a wide range of popular file formats, including Microsoft Office, Corel WordPerfect, and Adobe PDF.
Browse the web with the integrated, full-featured browser, which quickly and efficiently displays HTML pages as well as enables you to set up RSS feeds to stay connected to up-to-the-minute news and blog posts. It features a bright 2.5-inch color TFT screen that provides 65,000 colors and a 320 x 240-pixel resolution, and it includes a light-sensing feature that automatically adjusts backlighting for indoor, outdoor and dark environments. Like the BlackBerry 8800, the Curve includes a trackball navigation system located on the top of the QWERTY keypad, and it also features an integrated spell checker with a customizable dictionary to help maintain accuracy while on the go. It can capture images in up to three picture quality and size resolutions that can be shared instantly by email, MMS or BlackBerry Messenger, or even uploaded to your Flickr account with the Yahoo! Go service. Photos can also be immediately set as a unique caller ID or Home Screen image. You can edit photos and create albums within the Curve using the PhotoSuite application. Pictures can be cropped, rotated and straightened, and flaws can be fixed by removing redeye or changing the brightness, contrast, and saturation levels.
Listen to your favorite music and watch downloaded videos using the included stereo headset, or use an optional wireless headphone thanks to the Curve's support for the Bluetooth stereo audio profile (A2DP/AVRCP). The Curve is compatible with a wide variety of file formats, including MP3, WMA and AAC/AAC+/eAAC+ audio and WMV, MPEG4 and H.263 video. Dedicated volume controls are conveniently located on the side of the handset.
With the Voice-Activated Dialing (VAD) feature, you can initiate a call just by telling the Curve who to call from your contact list--either via the integrated speakerphone or using an optional Bluetooth wireless headset. Other advanced phone features include advanced sound technology that cancels out background noise and echo, dedicated volume and mute keys, and the ability to customize the Curve with polyphonic and MP3 ringtones.

Sony Ericsson K790a Phone (Unlocked) Review

Sony Ericsson K790a Phone (Unlocked)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used to own the W800i (Walkman) phone. I loved everything about it, but the K790 / K800i phone is EVEN better:
1. bigger and brighter screen size and higher resolution. As a result, the phone is slightly larger than the w800i but the benefits outweighs the size increase. The icons are bigger and clearer. Font size is increased so it's much easier to read text messages. You can now surf the web (not just mobile web pages.) Being able to display the photos on a larger screen is great.
2. I LOVE the RSS reader. With a click of a button, the phone updates the latest news from BBC and Google news and SONY news and updates. I just skim through the head lines which are linked to fuller articles on the websites. This is great for me who commutes on the train every morning. Great time killer standing up or sitting on the train.
3. Walkman is still great. It's not as buggy as W800i. But there is no more MegaBass. It still sounds great. Unfortunately, the phone does not come with memory card. I had to buy one M2 (Memory Stick MICRO) which I had to wait about a month to get since it's really new and not many stores have them in stock. So if you want to fill up the phone with songs, built-in 64MB will not be enough.
4. The camera quality is excellent (for phone camera, that is). I am very particular about digital cameras and picture quality. I find that this camera is overall not as good as a basic, stand-alone, cheap 3 Mpix cameras that are cheaper. HOWEVER, it good lighting condition, it takes great picutres. There is definitely more noticible purple fringe and digital noise than a dedicated digital camera. In low-light condition, even with the super bright flash light, the picture quality is sub-par. There is too much noise. The metering on the camera is so-so. If there is a strong lighting constrast between your subject and the background (such as bright windows), I find the camera has a hard time balancing the light--making the subject too dark. The ability to have a portable camera with me at all time, out weighs all the imperfections I get from it. As a graphic designer, it's important to have access to a camera at all time to grab images for design inspirations.
5. I am curious to start the photo Blog--a built-in feature in the phone.
6. Games look great on this camera. 3D games like MiniGolf and Tennis which came with the phone are amazing.
7. Built-in ring tones and background screen/wall paper sound and look SO much better.
8. Email function works great. I have a dot.mac account and can view and send emails without problems. Right now, the phone does not support flash player so I can't view any .fla files. I don't really care but sometimes websites do require that flash player is installed.
This phone has amazed me and impressed me beyond my expectations. I hope more of my friends have it so that I can try to video phone function!

The groundbreaking K790a from Sony Ericsson combines a Cyber-shot digital camera and a small and sophisticated mobile phone that supports EDGE high speed data networks. But the real story here is the K790i's amazing a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, a built-in xenon flash and image and video stabilizer functions that keep you ready for any moment, anytime. Other features include Bluetooth, a gorgeous color screen, an FM radio, an advanced mobile Web browser, and PictBridge-compliant printing.
Design The K790a follows a long tradition of beautifully designed and crafted phones from Sony Ericsson. The K790a's two-inch screen sports a whopping 240x320 pixel resolution with support for 262,000 colors. Quick access buttons below the screen make it easy to control the phone's most important features, while a five-way center button controls most of the phone's menus and features. There's also a port for the phone's included stereo headset, and USB and infrared data ports are provided, as well. The phone supports USB mass storage so you can simply plug the phone into your computer and drag and drop music files into the phone's memory using the included Disc2Phone PC application. Moving your photos is easy, too, thanks to high-speed USB. Meanwhile, a built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Polyphonic ringtones are included and you can also use MP3 and AAC music files as ringtones. A cool application called Music DJ even lets you mix your own ringtones. Picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers. For those times you want to keep things discreet, there's a vibrate ringer mode. And because the K790a is Bluetooth-enabled, you can use a variety of headsets and handsfree kits for total wireless freedom when you're on the go. The phone even supports stereo Bluetooth headsets.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools If you're looking for a mobile productivity partner, the K790a has you covered. You can even edit up your video clips with the included VideoDJ application. The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
Getting on the Internet is easy with the K790a, as it supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the high speed EDGE data protocol. When used with your carrier data plan and the phone's Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the K790a, including a voice memo recorder, a to-do list, a calculator, a calendar and an alarm clock. The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, which lets you synchronize your PC-based calendar, contacts, notes and tasks with your K790a.
Imaging and Entertainment The big story about this phone is, of course, the camera. At 3.2 megapixels, it can produce incredible images, but the real advantage comes from the camera's autofocus, which allows you to take crisp pictures at varying distances from your subjects. The camera also features an image and video stabilizer compensates for any small movement of your hand when you're taking a picture and shooting video. Meanwhile, a built-in Xenon flash helps you get great results in all kinds of lighting situations.
There's also a unique feature called BestPic that lets you capture several images in quick succession with one press of the camera key. BestPic lets you pick the best and delete the rest. Dedicated controls on the side of the device will make you forget you're holding a phone in your hand, and when you're ready to share your gorgeous images, you can print them wirelessly via Bluetooth, or via USB, on a PictBridge-capable printer. Sony Ericsson also provides a free picture blogging feature, which allows you to upload pictures from your phone to a place where all your friends and family can view them online.
The K790a is also a great music phone. Load up your favorite songs in MP3 or AAC format on a memory card and listen to your heart's content. The user-friendly music player application makes it easy to organize and enjoy your tunes. There's even an FM radio for catching the big game or your favorite stations.
And what about gaming? This phone is definitely geared for the mobile fun fanatic, as it supports widescreen and 3D games. The K790a comes preloaded with several games and more are downloadable from Sony Ericsson.
Vital Statistics The Sony Ericsson K790a weighs 4.1 ounces and measures 4.1 x 1.8 x .9 inches. Bought this phone yesterday (not from Amazon).
Amazing little device with a lot of innovative features. For example, the phone notifies the user of failure to connect to a WiFi network by crashing and rebooting. A dialog box pops up after the reboot to tell me that the phone restarted to "improve performance." Same thing happened when I tried to scan in a friend's business card, tried to fetch my email, take a photo, sync by bluetooth... the list continues. In fact, in just one day the phone restarted itself to 'improve performance' so many times, the performance must be getting really great by now.
Maybe a firmware update will help? Downloaded the Sony Ericsson Update Service (2.6.4.9). Ran it on my XP box at work - once installed, it played a Sony Ericsson eyecatch animation, then crashed with a 'java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException', but at least it kept planing the eyecatch over and over. Ahhhh. Tried it on my XP box at home - this time the installer came up with an empty window which stayed empty. No luck there. Finally tried it on an old Windows 200 laptop - this time it worked, recognised the phone, downloaded about 150M of something from the internet, pretended to flash the phone with new firmware. The result - same firmware, and more 'improving performance' messages.
The bottom line is - it is a very promising device. The hardware is good, the software is not even a public beta quality - proof of concept prototype at best. Not ready for public consumption in any shape or form. This seems to be a trend among smartphone manufacturers - release the product once the hardware is finished, promise to finish the software in new firmware releases, stop releasing firmware updates as a superseding model is in the works - leaving the consumer with a kind of working device. Sort of. Sometimes.

Nokia N95-3 Silver/Black Phone (Unlocked, U.S. Version) Full Warranty Review

Nokia N95-3 Silver/Black Phone (Unlocked, U.S. Version) Full Warranty
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This phone is terrific from many points of view:
Calls: Nokia always excels in voice quality and minimal dropped calls. Sound level is very good too.
Camera: the only ones comparable are the SonyEricsson cameraphones. Not only is this 5megapixels, but the most important thing--lens optics--is great. A lot of phones out there have high megapixel counts but still take muddy pictures.
GPS: it has it and it works fast
High-speed data: supports 3G and 3.5G and WiFi
The only slight negative is size and battery life. For a phone with so many things going on you can't expect the best battery performance. Still I got over 3 hours of talk time in on a day when I didn't use the GPS function). Plan on recharging every night if you talk for a couple hours, especially if you use a bluetooth headset.

I am using my Sony Erickson card with my t-mobile service to write this review. So, how is it working out? Hmmm....
Okay, so the card cost me $200 (I did not get a free one - if I had perhaps I would like it more). In my job I need constant available internet access, so I broke down and invested in this. It works. You can get internet access anywhere you can get cellular signal. The antennae is all but useless (it keeps falling off due to poor design) but the card works about 80+% as well without the hassle of the antennae anyway, so it is a wash. Reception is very good, and even when you have 2 (out of 5) bars, you can keep working. One [red] bar is pretty much death. You might get Google or some other easy-to-load website, but that's about it.
What really annoys me is the connection speed. Occasionally I will get a blistering 24MBs (that is a good mid-point wi-fi average for a cell phone company). But I am spending $50 a month (on top of the $200 card) and my computer tells me that I usually get speeds slower than dial-up, except when I am at a hotspot. Hotspot speeds are what you would expect, generally 11MBS (very nice) to 54MBS (Whoah! Slow down there speedy!!), but the whole point of spending this much money is to get internet access anywhere. That means I am driving in my car and decide that I simply cannot live another day unless I pull over, flip open my laptop, and order another copy of the new Harry Potter **right now**. With this card you can do that, but you may be waiting a few minutes for the page to load. It is best to say that the speed is spotty. You never know how fast or slow it will be when you are on the "EDGE" or "GPRS" network.
Look: If you absolutely *must* be connected to the net at an on-call basis, yes this is a solid investment. If you don't have the antennae plugged into the card (it pops in and out "too" easily), then the card is not that much of a nuisance. I have started to leave my card plugged in all of the time and I hardly notice it. But... if you can live with free internet access from the library, or using the hotspots at ANY Starbucks (like there aren't a million of those) then I would pick up a $5-$10 wi-fi Belkin network card and spend the $20-$30 on a t-mobile hotspot account that allows you to get those super fast hotspot internet speeds I mentioned above any time you are either at Starbucks, the library, or an independent coffeehouse that has free wi-fi access.
Lastly: just so I am clear... If you DO buy this card and then spend the $50 a month with t-mobile, you DO still get total access at any Hot Spot as a priority, and you ONLY sign on to the somewhat clunkier GPRS wi-fi if there is no regular signal to be found nearby. So after the initial $200 blow to your wallet, it is really only an extra twenty bucks a month. The factors you need to consider are how much you would spend to get internet access at home versus just having this card and service so you can get internet access at home - AND - anywhere else by using ONLY this service. As an example: my total internet bill is $50 a month. I hope this helped.
