Motorola KRZR K1m Red Phone (Verizon Wireless) Review

Motorola KRZR K1m Red Phone (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this phone as a "New Every Two" deal for free with my service renewal.
Pros: The phone is very sharp looking and has some great features including a 1.3 mp camera (average quality) and an MP3 player. The battery life is much better than my previous LG phone and the signal strength is very good as well. Verizon wireless service has always been very good in the Tampa Bay area and most of my family is on the service, so the IN calling plan saves me money.
Cons: Verizon has disabled the use of the Multimedia Studio in Motorola Phone Tools 4.x so they can persuade you to subscribe to the VCast service and pay for content. You can, however, use VZW's free PixPlace to upload or email content to your phone to avoid having to pay for content. Also, the Verizon interface is loaded when you activate the phone, so those who like the standard Motorola interface will likely be disappointed. The VZW interface also appears to disable the vibe-then-ring feature that so many Motorola phone users enjoy.
I like the phone, but I wish VZW didn't feel the need to kill the features. The reports I've read indicate that other wireless companies do not cripple the phone, so let's hope VZW takes the hint soon.
Overall: Great features (the ones that aren't crippled), great reception, good battery life, and great service with VZW in the Tampa Bay area.

A 1.9-inch color screen on the inside of the flip brings images and videos to life, while a small supplementary color display on the outside cover keeps tabs on incoming call information, and more. The 1.3-megapixel camera is housed above this display. Below the outer display, you'll find unique touch-sensitive music controls. The KRZR K1m features an internal antenna, so there's nothing to snag or break off, and a MicroSD slot adds ample storage space to store content. A mini USB port is provided for data synchronization.
Calling FeaturesFrom L.A. to Lisbon, the KRZR K1m connects you effortlessly with friends, family, and your favorite content. The phone supports voice activated dialing, as well as Bluetooth wireless headsets, so you can cut the wires and talk hands-free. Polyphonic ringtones are supported, and there's a speakerphone for those times when you want to talk while doing other things. Picture and ringer IDs allow you to set photos and ringtones to identify incoming callers. Lastly, The KRZR K1m's embedded GPS location technology can pinpoint your exact location when you dial 911.
Messaging, Internet and ToolsThe KRZR K1m supports all the messaging tools you need, such as MMS, SMS, EMS, and IM messaging capabilities. Use the phone's camcorder to send and record 15-second videos of just about anything. And because the KRZR K1m supports Verizon's getFLIX program, you can send video messages from your phone to an email address.
With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, the KRZR K1m is fully compatible with Verizon's V Cast service. With V Cast, you can download and stream high-quality video. Need news and weather? Get the latest Accuweather forecast delivered right to your handset, or stream CNN news headlines. ESPN sports updates, entertainment news from E!, and even Sesame Street content for the kids, are all available. V Cast also serves as a portal for enhanced 3D games, allowing you to have more fun with a new breed of realistic titles.
Verizon's music service is another EV-DO-powered service that makes the KRZR K1m all the more desirable. With V Cast Music, your phone is a music player, letting you jam out wherever you are. It's also a music store, and you can download songs instantly to your phone wirelessly. Save your songs to a memory card with a capacity that's right for you. You can even pause to take a call without missing a beat.
The KRZR K1m ships with a number of handy tools including an alarm clock, a calculator, a calendar, and a voice recorder. It supports the Sync ML data synchronization standard over Bluetooth or USB.
If desired, the onboard GPS feature can do more than give your current location to emergency personnel. The KRZR K1m is fully compatible with Verizon's VZ Navigator service, a feature that provides all the bells and whistles of an advanced navigation system on your mobile phone at a fraction of the price of other GPS devices and systems. The VZ Navigator service provides heads-up, voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions (with auto-rerouting if you miss a turn), local search of nearly fourteen million points of interest (POIs) in the United States, and detailed color maps that can be quickly panned and zoomed. With VZ Navigator, you'll know where you are, know what's around you, and know how to get there fast (additional Verizon charges apply). Lastly, the KRZR K1m is chaperone capable, that means you'll always know where the user is, be it a child, a baby sitter, or a teenager on her first date. And because the KRZR K1m is chaperone parent capable, you'll be able to define a zone or aspecific area, such as a school or summer camp, and when your family member enters or leaves the zone with their handset, Verizon will automatically send an alert to your phone with the time and location of your family member's handset.
Imaging and Entertainment Fusing superior form with rich functionality, the KRZR K1m houses a host of premium multimedia features. The ultimate all-in one device for extraordinary imaging, the phone lets you capture your latest jaunt to Cape Town via the 1.3-megapixel camera, or via video capture and playback capabilities. If you are looking for a non-apple smartphone, this is it.
Primary function, being a phone, is outstanding. The phone has a good reception and you are able to have clear conversations even in noisy environments like games or construction sites.
Additionally, it is full of features with out of the box google integration. The screen is amazing and very responsive. Gps, camera and wi-fi works as expected. The full qwerty slider keyboard works great, however keys are too flat. Form factor is adequate. The phone is slim and not so heavy.
Despite of the bugs mentioned in several forums, I haven't found any. The piece I got came already with the Android 2.1 update and works straightforward.
It deserve a "well done" for the engineers at Motorola.

Downgraded from BB.
Phone works battery seems new and holds a good charge so as an SMS phone it is fine and is as advertised near mint. Because the Brew update was not applied (google search it) could not transfer contacts via Verizon back up manager, was able through BitPim but lengthy, easier to bluetooth and transfer contacts from PC but only one at a time and provided you have them local. The antenna is not really attached properly but again no Brew flash, so no Get It Now content anyway. Camera works, video works, transfer mp3 by sd card inserted in PC (no bluetooth MP3 transfer) older smaller headphone port (lag....) As a messaging phone its just fine, but just.......

Nokia C6 Unlocked GSM Phone with Easy E-mail Setup, Side-Sliding Touchscreen, QWERTY, 5 MP Camera, and Free Ovi Maps Navigation (Black) Review

Nokia C6 Unlocked GSM Phone with Easy E-mail Setup, Side-Sliding Touchscreen, QWERTY, 5 MP Camera, and Free Ovi Maps Navigation (Black)
Average Reviews:

I am overall satisfied with this phone, Pros: I like the fact I can pop my operator SIM without jailbreaking/unlocking the phone - built in wifi, full bluetooth functionality, fm radio, and gps are very nice to have and enable many interesting apps and uses. Home screen panels let you put shortcuts and content all in one place. You can use it as a mobile hotspot with the JoikuSpot app. Ovisotre has a good amount of additional apps, and there are a lot of Symbian applications that can be installed from the PC or directly in the phone. The full qwerty keyboard is very nice and the battery life is good even with moderate to heavy browsing gps navigation. you can also carry a spare battery. the camera is good by smartphone camera standards.
Cons: I have not been able to hook yahoo, hotmail or gmail account with the built in email program, I had to use a third party app called Emoze. Too bad the built in app can't be used as a regular pop3 / imap client. The built in sms messaging app does not support threaded views, you'll have to buy an additional app for that (ThreadSMS - at least it is cheap). You'll want to replace the included 2Gb micro sd card (almost filled with OviMaps files) with a bigger 4Gb or 8Gb one if you are planning on uploading many music files / videos, etc. you cannot charge the phone via the usb port. The phone does not include a stylus, you can get the job done with your fingers or nails, but for some operations it would be nice to have the extra precision.
In summary this is a nicely priced phone given the specs and features it has, and most shortcomings can be solved with additional apps, memory.

No Hidden Costs
The new version of Ovi Maps comes with all the maps and high-end, car grade navigation features you need for free and is yours to keep for the life of the smartphone. No additional licenses needed for extra countries, regions or services like traffic information or city guides. Data charges from network operators may apply.

Voice Guidance and Traffic Information
Turn-by-turn, voice guided navigation comes free for both drivers and pedestrians. For drivers this includes lane assistance, traffic information, safety camera, and speed warnings. For pedestrians, this includes shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only zones for over 100 cities around the world as well as 6,000 3D landmarks in over 200 cities to help you find exactly where you are.

Unique Hybrid Technology
Ovi Maps is built on an advanced technology called hybrid vector maps. Vector maps are high quality but less data intensive and allow you to continue to navigate even if you lose your network connection. This means that maps downloaded or updated across a network connection are about half the size of bulky bitmaps used by other mobile map providers. The hybrid technology ensures that, unlike other providers, any downloaded map data is stored on the device for future use.

No Network Connection Required When Navigating
Avoid expensive, battery-draining network connections with Nokia's unique hybrid technology. Maps can be pre-loaded on to your Nokia smartphone so you can set Ovi Maps to offline mode, saving battery power, and the navigation system will still work. This is particularly useful for those worried about data connection costs when travelling abroad or when you are travelling through areas with little or no network coverage.

Best Global Coverage
You take your mobile with you wherever you go in the world so, as standard, voice guided navigation for both pedestrians and drivers is available for 74 countries in 46 different languages and there are maps for over 180 countries. This gives you the best maps with the largest global coverage for free.

Blackberry World Edition Review

Blackberry World Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use a Blackberry 8830 World Phone (on Verizon) and a HTC Evo everyday. The BB is my work device, and I own a HTC Evo as my personal phone (on Sprint). Using them back to back, I can say first hand that for most of what I do, the BlackBerry is the better device.
PROS OF A BB 8830
1. My BB has been reliable,
2. Allows for quick email response wheenever and whereever,
3. Is great for calls with a bluetooth headset. connects without issue and is pretty clear, few dropped calls (bluetooth dropping off, which happened all the time with my old Palm Centro)
4. The basic functions work well - datebook, contacts, to-do's, and memo's... I used these for years on the Palm and while the BB is not as good as the Palm was (sigh), still works well enough.
CONS OF the BB 8830
1. Internet isn't the best... When I finally upgrade to a newer device maybe that will get better
2. Don't like the roller ball - I like the touch pad that you find on the newer Curve.

Advantages of the BB over an Android phone (for me - BB vs. HTC Evo):
1. Less buggy - my BB crashes only a fraction of the # of times that my Evo Android phone does.
2. Reading and deleting emails is FAST on the BB - I can review 20 emails in about 2 minutes, tops, on the BB, including brief responses and deleting masses (when needed). On the EVO, you have go to the separate delete screen and pick them there... And reading and replying is slower, driven by the keyboard in particular.
3. Like the memo and to do applications - not as good as Palm (10 years ago) but at least they offer native applications for this kind of stuff (Android does not!!!!).
One man's opinion, but I sometimes wish I'd skipped the Evo (and the extra $10 a month for 4G) and gone with a personal BB (in addition to my work BB).

Motorola ACTV Phone, Mandarin Orange (T-Mobile) Review

Motorola ACTV Phone, Mandarin Orange (T-Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Normally I would get a Nokia, but the selections are limited for that brand. And I would rather have a bar style instead of a flip but I really like the look and feel of this phone. It's like a rugged W490. Feels real solid in your hands. And I love the fact that the charger is mini USB.
Now onto the issues.
Major IMO:
- Every once in awhile the signal drops and it goes "Searching", and this is when the phone is on my desk at work. Never had an issue with my older Nokia 6030 or Samsung T619.
- Sometimes when accessing the call log (from pressing the green call button or the shortcut), it will say "Try Later". Only way to get around this is to access the phonebook and retrieve the number there. This will not do if I need to quickly redial someone while driving.
Minor:
- SIM card holder bracket is poorly designed. Sometimes difficult to remove the card since the bracket goes across the whole card.
- Camera has a orange hue around the subject. I wonder if it's the orange ring around the lens.
- It changed the phone settings on me when the mini USB plug is in.
Oh and the image of the analog clock on the front screen, where is the menu selection to get that?
I really want to like this phone, probably one of the better looking phones out there now but Motorola needs to do a little better in the engineering dept.
