(More customer reviews)The feature that differentiates this from other Blackberries is UMA - unlicensed mobile access. In contrast to the AT&T Blackberry 8820, this T-mobile 8320 allows one to SPEAK over wifi. The 8820 can only use wifi for data.
It roams seamlessly between wifi networks and EDGE/GSM networks without dropping the call. I started a call from a Starbucks wifi network and walked out of its range. The phone switched over to the GSM network without dropping the call - no problem. I then walked into my office where there is wifi, and the phone switched over to wifi.
A few interesting points:
- Calls made over UMA (ie. wifi) are much clearer. They sound like an landline phone, not a walkie talkie.
- T-mobile bills you according to where you *initiate* the call. So if you start a call at home over your wifi and then walk out, you still don't get minutes deducted from your plan.
- The UMA HotSpot@Home add-on to your T-mo contract ($20/mo unlimited UMA talking for all lines on my family plan) also includes access to Hotspots at all Starbucks Cafes and airports. I didn't need to do a thing. As soon as I get near a Starbucks, the phone finds its Hotspot wireless network and latches on.
- I have significantly decreased the amount I spend monthly on voicetime by using a MyFaves family plan ($59/mo for 1000 whenever minutes) because all calls over UMA and all calls on to my 5 selected MyFaves numbers are not deducted from that plan's minutes.
- Tmobile gave me a free wifi router ($50 with a $50 rebate) that has been optimized for UMA voice. It firmware has been set up so that the UMA (VOIP traffic) is prioritized.
- I am SO dumping my Vonage line now. Vonage's voice clarity and reliability is nowhere close, and Tmobile's customer service is fabulous in comparison.
- I live in NYC and I recall when the cell networks went down on 9/11 due to overload. One comforting thought is that this phone will not die in times of network overload that since it can work on a completely different network (ie. wifi routers connecting to regular ISPs, which kept working on 9/11).
I'm a believer.

(More customer reviews)I have had this for about a month. It is about 2 1/4" X 4" and only about 1/2 inch thick. It is very lightweight and can easily fit in a guy's shirt pocket. I like the metallic pink, but if you are a guy into the macho thing you can also find it in silver. Pink is pretty and different. The display is easy to see. The selector ball in the center works nicely. It is simple to use, for the technology challenged :-). The GPS navigation system works (not 100% of the time), but it works. For me, that's great because I can get lost inside of a paper bag. It takes decent camera pictures and even video pictures. While I have not mastered all the capabilities of the phone yet, I am pleased with it. It was better than I expected and a welcome upgrade from my old phone. (Boy, they get old fast!) It also will find local events and map you to their location and it will map you to and from places in your address book. It knows where you are all the time so you just tell it where you want to go. It also has a calendar and an alarm clock (which is handy when I am on the move) and you can hook up to your email. It has voice dialing too, and you can set up a ring tone and a photo for frequent callers, or to distinguish those callers who you wish were in-frequent :-). Nice phone. (I think the GPS connection cost me $10 more per month on my service and of course, to use email, you need to have email to hook up to. So, just because the phone is able to do something, you need to ask about any extra charges specific to the plan you have with your carrier. But, you knew that already, right?) Yep--this here Smart Phone is mighty smart!

(More customer reviews)I really like this phone. I have never used a blackberry before, but love how small this one is. It takes pretty nice pictures. It has an MP3 player, and the speakers sound really nice. It has really great sound for such a little phone. The only thing I can complain about the media player is that it only plays one song at a time unless you select play all but it always plays the first song at the top of the list first. But I really like that I can use my own Mp3's as my ringtones. Okay, well I guess I can complain about something else, sometimes its a little slow between applications. But the internet runs pretty good for a phone. I have yahoo messenger on it and also set up my yahoo and google email addresses on it. I like how all of my new messages, text messages, picture mails, emails and everything end up in the same folder. It makes retreiving a new message a breeze.

This major update to the popular BlackBerry 7105t brings the BlackBerry experience to a whole new level while adding a fresh infusion of color. The BlackBerry Sunset Pearl is not only thinner and lighter, but it also sports a memory card slot, a music player, and voice dialing, along with all the features you'd expect from any BlackBerry smartphone, including generous e-mail service, an integrated web browser, text messaging, instant messaging, organizer applications, and more. Add in such additional features as Bluetooth 2.0, EDGE high-speed data services, and the popular SureType keypad and you have a complete mobile office solution. And, of course, BlackBerry's legendary push e-mail service is fully supported on the BlackBerry Sunset Pearl.
Design Like the BlackBerry 7105t, the BlackBerry Sunset Pearl is a departure from the form factor of previous BlackBerry devices. This BlackBerry handset is far more phone-like, and RIM's engineers have managed to fit a modified QWERTY keyboard onto the handset's slim frame. Each button on the keyboard shares two letters and the unit automatically determines which letter you intend to type one based on what it believes you're trying to spell. This unique predictive text technology--known as SureType--makes the handset's diminutive size possible. SureType also learns the words you use most often, further enhancing your typing speed.
The BlackBerry Sunset Pearl sports a large 240 x 260 screen that supports more than 65,000 colors--plenty of real estate to view your e-mails, Web browser content, messaging sessions, and attachments. The venerable BlackBerry trackwheel, meanwhile, has been replaced on this model with an innovative four-way trackball placed below the screen. On the rear of the handheld, you'll find a 1.3-megapixel camera that lets you take high-quality pictures wherever you roam. Other design details include a microSD memory card slot inside the device (behind the battery), a standard 2.5mm headset jack (the Sunset Pearl includes a headset), and a mini-USB port for data connectivity.
Calling Features All the calling capabilities folks have come to expect in a wireless phone are present in the BlackBerry Sunset Pearl. The handset's speakerphone makes it easy to use the device hands-free, or if you prefer, you can use a wireless headset via the Sunset Pearl's built-in Bluetooth capability. The phone also offers a vibrating alert, a speed dial, and a contacts list/address book that's limited only by the unit's 64 MB of internal memory. Messaging, Internet, and Tools While the BlackBerry Sunset Pearl is a different kind of BlackBerry device, it still delivers the legendary BlackBerry e-mail experience. BlackBerry's push technology, meanwhile, makes it easier than ever to receive your e-mails. BlackBerry devices are designed to remain on and stay continuously connected to your wireless network. (More customer reviews)I had the BlackBerry 8700g for a year and really liked it, but just decided to upgrade to the Curve. I've only had the Curve for a few days and I already absolutely love it. Smaller, lightweight, with a more efficient means of typing a message by being able to use the trackball for editing. I love that the Curve has a camera where the 8700g does not. And it has a flash--double bonus points. It's very easy to use and with the 8700g I beceme very spoiled with being able to get my email wherever I go. Now in addition to that, I have WiFi, so the Curve will hook up to the closest WiFi connection and I have even faster internet capabilities with it. I also love that I can go anywhere and use my BlackBerry as a modem for my laptop. The BlackBerry tech support department at T-Mobile helped me set the 8700g and then the Curve as modems when I purchased them. Using this function I don't have to pay the absurd prices to connect to a HotSpot of any kind. (I just keep my cable in my backpack that I carry my laptop in.) There are lots of features I haven't had the opportunity to explore and am not sure how to use, like the music capabilities. I suppose it would help if I read my manual. :o)

We selected it because of the ability to text easily via wi-fi as we live in a dead zone. We have T-mob but we did not sign up for the blackberry web service at $25 per month. Isn't worth it when you live in a dead zone and only use it when you go into town. So I can't say how well all those features work.
We would like to buy another one through Amazon but don't like the idea of waiting one or two months. Reviews for the same phone from other sellers weren't so good,mostly issues with the sellers,but we are satisfied with this choice.

(More customer reviews)I've had this phone for a week now and am seriously tempted to sell my Tilt. The only thing is, there is no replacement for a big touchscreen for long periods of web surfing.
This phone is great. It feels expensive, not cheap and plastic. The controversial keys work great for my big thumbs. I never press the wrong key. Rocker buttons on the side work fine.
Screen is beautiful. Much better looking than the screen on my Tilt, but then most touchscreens lose a little clarity with the touch sensitive layer over it. The screen is not as nice as some of Nokia's phones, like my 6300 which is 16 million colors and gorgeous. But 65000 colors is pretty common and it looks very good. Even in sunlight, which is a huge PITA compared to the Tilt which is absolutely unreadable in sunlight.
The menus are nice, this phone came with WM6.1 which has a great home screen. Intuitive and very easy to use. All the apps are well thought out.
The phone has a great signal and also has the trademark Motorola LOUD AND CLEAR earpiece. I'm really tired of phones like my 6300 that make it impossible to hear someone if there is any noise around you. The speakerphone is also plenty loud and clear.
If I had to name a negative, and I don't really want to, it's the goofy port. Requires an adapter to plug into the usb port on the computer. And you can't use your old Motorola chargers since the plug end is different. But that is certainly no reason to stay away from this phone.
I would buy it again in a second, no hesitation.
Don't forget to search for windows mobile youtube apps, they work great and the videos look much, MUCH better than on iphones and blackberrys.

(More customer reviews)Like most tech-savvy professionals, I use and rely on a BlackBerry at work. In fact, I've been an addict for quite some time. I recently updated from an 8700 to this amazing phone. The email, calendar and address book are all what you expect and are accustomed to from BlackBerry. There are a ton of great improvements and I've outlined my likes and dislikes below.
Pros:
* The screen appears to be the same 320x240 screen that is found on the older 8700. It's outstanding and flat out huge. There are various levels of backlighting and there is a handy auto-DIM feature that adjusts the backlight according to room lighting conditions.
* The rollerball took a little getting used to, but after less than a day, I'm an expert. OK, not quite an expert, but I dialed in the sensitivity to suit my needs. I also turned off that annoying clicking sound. I guess that was supposed to simulate the audible "click" you would get from the old wheel.
* The keyboard is perfect. I was really scared about going to something new but the spacing and texture are dead-on. Typing is a breeze.
* Spell-Check; a warm welcome to something that has been missing for a LONG time. It's also super-easy to use. I get a prompt right before I send an email asking me to approve typos. Great job BlackBerry!
* The multimedia software is excellent; both on the device and on the desktop. You can watch movies, listen to MP3s and check out your photos on the handset. The Music software is not as good as what's on the Sony Walkman w580i phone, but it gets the job done. The Roxio-powered Media Manager software for the desktop offers super-easy drag and drop of MP3s and movies. It even converts files on the fly so they work with the Curve. This is one of the best additions to BlackBerry. The easy to use interface really turns this into a multimedia device.
* The camera is pretty good too. The LED flash is very bright and allows for a decent photo in low light. Full Screen view finder is a nice plus. There is even a little mirror on the back for self portraits.
* 3.5mm Stereo/Audio Jack is built-in. No adapter needed. Amen BlackBerry! Just plug my Shure buds in and I'm in audio bliss.
* Real GPS! This is awesome. I've just started to tinker with the TeleNav software. I don't like the fact there is a monthly fee, but the turn-by-turn directions rival standalone navigation systems I've used. It's awesome but pricey. I'll start hunting for alternative navigation software.
Cons:
* Doesn't record video
* No 3G or Wi-Fi
* Monthly fees associated with true turn-by-turn navigation software. The GPS does work great with BlackBerry Maps and Google Maps for location. Not quite the same as Telenav.
* Memory card is located under the battery. I find it very annoying that I have to power down the phone to remove and replace the card. Hey, at least it's MicroSD.
* It's a fingerprint magnet. Not iPod bad, but visible enough that I keep wiping down the body.
* No playlist support for the music software.
All in, this is the best BlackBerry I've ever owned. Highly recommended.

BlackBerry Curve 8320 Phone, Sunset (T-Mobile) Review

(More customer reviews)I resisted a Blackberry for years because I didn't want my email following me everywhere. Finally broke down and got this Curve 3 weeks ago. It truly lives up to its name as a "smart phone."
The Good:
1--The preloaded applications. I LOVE having mapping and search technology right on my cellphone! No more wondering where the nearest Wells Fargo or Pinkberry is. No more wasting time in the doctor's waiting room. I can check/respond to email or better yet, play tetris or brickbreaker.
2 --Multi-Tasking. If you are in the middle of one app (e.g., entering an address) and a call comes in, when the call is finished, the screen goes back to what you were doing instead of losing all the data you just entered. Coming from regular phones, this is a HUGE time-saving improvement for me. Also, if you are on the phone with someone and you want to look up a number or an email or a calendar event on your phone, you can click a button and search for the info, all while continuing your convo with the caller. How novel that technology should actually work the way common sense dictates. I uploaded a software called Mobile Tracker that works with a GPS to track my movements (which I can later upload in a file and watch on Google Earth) and the tracking is done in the background all while I continue to make and receive calls, check email, etc. Love that!
3--The Keyboard (Characters). I love that all the letters, numbers and common symbols are on one keyboard instead of my having to scroll thru multiple screens like most other phones.
4--Phone quality. Speakerphone is crisp and clear. Phone can hold a signal even in certain dead spots.
The Bad:
1-- Battery life is not great. Requires daily charging but I use it quite intensely. Easily solved with a car charger.
2-- Browser is sometimes a little too slow for my taste. This may be the phone or it may be t-mobile. I haven't tested to know whether wi-fi makes the browser go faster than being on the EDGE network. Also, could be slower when there are multiple applications working in the background.

The Ugly:
1--The keyboard (surface). Not crazy about the texture. I prefer the feel of the Bold's keyboard but I'm not going to switch carriers for it.
2--So incompatible with Mac it's not funny. After 3 days of trying different alternatives (the free pocketmac from blackberry froze my computer), I had to pay $40 for Missing Sync software to make the phone play nice with Mac, and even then there are issues. If you have a windows pc, you won't have this issue. If you have a Mac, be prepared to accept less than accurate syncing.
3--The manual. It's beyond useless. Doesn't tell you anything about this phone which has menus within menus within menus. There are a lot of features and you really need to take it out on a date and get to know it intimately. I have started to create my own little "how-to" file to keep track of how to do everything on this phone.
If you are new to smartphones, you will really enjoy this phone, not just for the email but for the constant access to the internet which is great for having information at your fingertips when you're away from your computer.
NOTE: A week or so after getting the phone, I also experienced the problem mentioned by the reviewer below with the phone locking up and the interminable hourglass. When I went in to each of the programs on the phone I had opened (maps, browser, weather channel, missing sync, brickbreaker, etc) and selected Close or Quit from the menu, this problem went away. I guess what makes this a smart phone is that hitting the back button on the phone just takes you to the previous screen but it doesn't automatically close out the application you are working in. You have to do that manually.
UPDATE: It has now been more than 6 months since I have had the phone and I want to throw it into the ocean. I still love the map feature and the camera has come in handy a couple of times, but the phone part drives me nuts! #ver since I activated the UMA feature which allows me to make calls over my highspeed Internet connection, I have had constant dropped calls, call failures, inability to dial out or receive calls. The phone basically works when it feels like. I have called T-Mobile but the support on this particular feature is useless. You might ask, why don't I just disable it, but when it works, it's brilliant -- it's like being on a landline. And cell service in my home is spotty so if I don't use UMA, I have to stand in one corner of the house. I had the phone set to work exclusively with UMA and I had problems so I switched it so that the phone would go back and forth between UMA and Edge, but I still have problems. This could be the phone, this could be T-Mobile, this could be my internet connection, who knows. I haven't tested UMA over another wireless network to isolate the problem. Perhaps I will do that next and update the review again.

Dedicated volume controls are conveniently located on the side of the handset.

The phone came with a BIg Ship that scractched my hand the metal is sticking out. No software to install, no media card no even the smallest available. My family has bought Blackberries from Amazon and they have got the media card, software , NO ME!!!!
