(More customer reviews)I don't know why I'm reviewing this after, what 4 years since this phone has been out? Well I like going to the cheap route sometimes, and this was one of those instances. I bought this new 4 years after it was released, and I can tell you that I can see why Blackberry caught on. This phone has flawless execution, meaning that the menus and options are not implicitly absconded through menus and sub menus, they are easy to manage through and easy to read through.
This phone offers all that the new blackberry's have except, well graphics, camera, video, and unfortunately speakerphone and polyphonic ringtones. What you get though is vintage Blackberry. You get the email, memos, bluetooth, web browsing, passwords vaults, and all the usual blackberry antics. The battery lasts for me well over 7 days without usage, and 3+ days with usage. It has great reception and I find it easier to navigate through, with it's simple and basic, but rather outdated menu system. What can I say, I'm a sucker for retro, even if that means 4 years.
Are you substituting technology for reliability and simplicity? Yes, but it's worth it.

HP iPaq 6945 Unlocked Cell Phone with Wi-Fi, GPS, MP3/Video Player, SD--U.S. Version with Warranty (Silver) Review

(More customer reviews)I've had the 6945 for about two weeks now. So far it is performing very well. Setting up the email took a while to figure out. If you are like me, you hate all the clutter and useless software pre-installed on these devices, so it took me a while to clean up the view.
I don't use the Outlook Sync function, but it looks like it works well. The auto-sync function is something to be aware of. The first time I did auto-sync it wiped-out my contact list on my PC and replaced with the few contacts on my sim card. Luckily it only deleted the contacts to my outlook delete folder so it was easy to restore. Here are some PROs and CONs after about two weeks of use:
PRO:
1) Wifi or Cingular GPRS email works well. You will have to set up two different accounts - one for your Wifi and another for when you are using GPRS, but that is easy to do. The reason you should do this is so that when you are on Wifi you can send via the Wifi server instead of the Cingular GPRS wireless network. I have set up both a work and personal home email account (both POP3). Looks like this device can handle several more email accounts if necessary.
2) Internet explorer works very well. This is not a lame mobile web browser that strips down sites. It is the real deal. Websites look just like they do on your PC or laptop - only smaller. You can customize the view pretty easily. Favorites folder is easy to set up and the address bar is easy to use.
3) The screen is very nice. I find myself using both the built in keyboard and the on screen touch pad. Both work very well. Resolution is very good.
4) WM-5 is very nice. I've used the Work and Excel programs so far. They are essentially the same as on your PC. Why anyone would want to use an iPaq to edit a DOC or XLS file is beyond me, but if you need to do this you can. I have not had a chance to use the Powerpoint viewer yet, but I'm sure it works as well as Word and Excel.
5) I purchased a 1GB mini-SD storage card. That is very easy to pop in and out.
6) You can use MP3s or WMA files as your ring tone - that's pretty cool.
7) The device is very solid. Not as big as you would think. Fits well in your pocket or on a belt clip. Looks like it will hold up well. The pen locks in the side and is also pretty solid. Not like the Treo, which I've heard is very fragile.
8) And now for the Phone - It works very well! I was surprised because most people complain about the phone quality on these devices. I find the sound quality to be as good as my RAZR. The Cingular Sim-Card can be swapped in and out between my RAZR and iPaq, so if I am going to a sporting event or bar I and dont want to bring the iPaq I can just swap the sim-card right back into the RAZR and it works. I had to call Cingular and get them to change my phone to the iPaq. This was purely for data.
9)YOU DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE THE "Treo Package". Don't let Cingular sell you that extra crap. I simply added the MediaNet200 package for $19.99 which gives you unlimited Media + 200 text messages a month. That is plenty of text messages and the unlimited data gives you all the web surfing and emailing you can do!
10) GPS navigation is pretty neat little function. You have to download the maps from Microsoft Pocket Streets, but they are free. The GPS sucks battery life like crazy, but if you are on the road in a strange city this can be very helpful.
11) Windows Media player works just like your PC. I added about 750mb of music, so the device is actually an MP3 player as well. It has an external speak or you can stick in headphones (be aware, using the media player sucks battery life).
CONS:
1) I'd say the biggest con is the battery life. If you are on just GPRS/Phone with stand by (no talking, emailing or surfing) it will probably last about 2 days. However, using the phone or emailing cuts that down to about only 12-14 hours. If you set up the WiFi as well as have the phone on, your battery life is about 8-10 hours. If you also have the GPS and Bluetooth on, I'd say 5-6 hours. My advice is to not use the GPS or Bluetooth unless you really need them. And, if you are going to be on WiFi, leave the device in the craddle. The USB charging is very slow but the AC adapeter chargest the device to full in about 2 hours. YOU CAN PURCHASE A BIGGER BATTERY - and you probably should.
2) Cingular does not support the 6945. You will have to tell them you have the 6925. I called HP - they are identical except that the 6925 is Cingular only and the 6945 is unlocked for T-Mobile as well. Obviously Cingular wants you to buy the 6925 instead, but the 6945 is the same. If you call Cingular for support, just tell them you have a 6925 to avoid even having to explain things to them.
3) The ring volume is not that loud. But, it does have vibrate.
4) Do not buy the leather case that Amazon sells with the device for like $[...]. The device comes with a belt clip that works just fine. If you want something nicer, go buy it in person....All in all this is an excellent device. I use to carry a cell phone and my laptop on the road - now all I need is this. Again, you can swap your sim-card in and out, so keep your old cell phone for times when you don't want to carry around the iPaq.
I only gave it 4 stars because of the battery life. That can be fixed by purchasing the more powerful battery, but that will cost you extra. Also, the device is pretty expensive relative to the Treo or Q or Blackberry. None of those devices have WiFi though.

Reception signal is much better than other cell phones that I had before.
The touch screen is very good, and the keyboard makes it easier and faster for txt'n and internet.
The size and weight are decent, it not bulky!
Applications can be downloaded, IM is already on the phone.
The reasons I didn't give 5 stars are the following:
- the touch screen feels somehow soft, so don't put too much pressure on it, however it is very responsive, and finally, i find it annoying to enter a web addr/link... I have to touch the screen on the part that the web page adr comes out more than a couple of times to be able to enter the addr...
Other than that, I really like and enjoy this phone... as it is 3g, the internet is fast, the battery can last for a while and it charges very fast.

palm Treo 700w Phone (Verizon Wireless) Review

(More customer reviews)In theory, this is a great phone. Unfortunately, it is woefully underpowered - enough so to make it unsuitable for most and best to wait for the next version.
I have used several units extensively and have spent hours online, with customer service, and with tech support. Read on for the some critical details.
Before I move on, let's clear up some confusions. Palm makes phones and PDAs. PalmSource makes software. They used to be one company but split up a few years ago.
The Treo 600 and 650 are made by Palm and use PalmSource software. The 700w is made by Palm and uses Microsoft software.
Also, there are two versions of Windows Mobile 5.0. There is a Smartphone version and there is a Pocket PC version. The Treo 700w uses the latter, which is more versatile but usually impossible to use with one hand. However, Palm made some modifications, with Microsoft's permission, to make the 700w very usable without a stylus. That's something to consider when looking at competing phones that also use Windows Mobile Pocket PC version.
Finally, EV-DO is technically broadband, but not quite what you have at home, thus why it is marketed as "near-broadband." Home broadband speeds are at least 768Kbps peak, and 3,000Kbps speeds are commonly available. Verizon's EVDO is 512Kbps peak. 1x, the old cellular connection that the Treo 650 uses, is only 100kbps peak.
Here are the major shortcomings.
312MHz is quite slow. Most leading-edge PDAs use a 624MHz processor now. Considering that the Treo does the job of both a phone and a PDA, nothing less than 624MHz is called for.
Palm really fell asleep at the wheel with the RAM. Only about 25MB ends up being available to run all programs. Windows takes up most of that and leaves less than 10MB available for the rest of your programs. Most new PDAs provide 64MB.
What does that mean? It means your unit will crash a plenty. PalmSource software may run fine with those specs, but Windows is much more of a power hog.
I put my unit through heavy use and it crashes at least once per day. Use too many programs at once - it will eventually crash. Surf the internet a lot - it will eventually crash.
Here's the worst one: If you're using an intensive program or have simply opened too many programs (doesn't matter if they're in the background) and you happen to receive a call - it will crash.
Given all this, I ask the same thing another reviewer asked: why isn't the reset button easily accessible?
I also frequently experience lags as long as 30 seconds. I have also experienced 5-second lags in the phone picking up an incoming call.
Unfortunately, the only way around this is for Palm to add more RAM to the Treo 700w. The only way to minimize the problem is to frequently hit [function key] + [OK key] to bring up the program manager and close all programs. Especially do this after you use intensive programs, such as Internet Explorer, finance software, GPS software, and music software.
Here's another problem that can probably be fixed with a ROM update: The unit sometimes shuts off certain sound sources whenever the screen auto-shuts off. This means you can't use it as a portable MP3 player. To get around this, open Media Player and assign a key to turn off the screen. Then turn off the screen before the auto-shut off and it will keep playing.
Here's a mind-boggling oversight: When you're on two calls at the same time (e.g. call waiting), you cannot end just one call. You have to end both. Moreover, even if one of the callers hangs up, the phone will still show the call as being active. I have yet to figure out if those minutes are being charged to me.
If you have the patience, this can still be a useful product, especially if you need the faster EVDO connection. Despite its fatal flaws, I would still say it's one of the best implementations of a phone/pda.
If you have a Treo 650, the 700w will be more of a downgrade if you donn't need EVDO. If you need Blackberry, the 700w is a laughable alternative.
My suggestion is to wait out for the next version.
*Update: Palm released a patch in April that drastically improves stability. It doesn't crash nearly as much as before. What changed? Memory management was improved to shut down programs instead of leaving them in the background, usually leaving only 1 program running at time. However, the opposite problem now exists where the Treo closes a program that you want to come back to (e.g. after retrieving info from another program or after receiving a call), which itself can be frustrating. But I'll take that over 3 daily crashes.

And to top it off, the Treo 700w is fully compatible with Verizon wireless' EV-DO mobile broadband data service. Simply put, everything you need to do your work on the move, and at blazing speeds, has arrived.
Design Under the hood, the Treo 700w features 128MB of RAM (60MB available for end user storage) and an Intel XScale 312MHz processor. The design retains the same basic form factor as the Treo 650 with a few changes. Aesthetically, the new Treo has more angular lines and a more professional-looking gray color. At 6 ounces, it's also slightly lighter than its predecessor. The button layout above the full QWERTY keyboard has been changed to accommodate the Windows Mobile 5.0 interface, and the screen sports 240 x 240 resolution.
Like the 650, the top of the 700w features an expansion card slot for SD, SDIO, and MMC memory and expansion cards, and get this: Unlike the 650, the 700w supports the Palm Wi-Fi card. Up top there's also an infrared port for line of sight data transfers, as well as a handy switch for turning off the phone's ringer. Below the screen, a five-way navigator controls most of the phone's menus and operating system functions. The left side of the unit features a volume up/down toggle plus a handy user-customizable button that can be assigned to any phone or PDA function. The rear of the unit houses a loudspeaker, as well as the 1.3 megapixel camera unit. A touchscreen stylus can be tucked away on the right side of the phone. Meanwhile, a combined charging, data, and accessory attachment port, called the Palm "multi-connector" is housed on the bottom of the unit, as is a standard 2.5 mm stereo headset jack.
Calling and PDA Features Like the Treo 650, the Treo 700w's phone and PDA functions are designed to provide an integrated, seamless experience -- only this time its all handled by Windows Mobile. The hallmark of the Windows Mobile experience is the "Today" screen that summarizes all the important information you need to make it through the day. Here you'll get message notification, upcoming appointments, dialing functions, and a Google Web searching all in one spot. As a phone, the Treo 700w features all the functionality folks expect from a cell phone, including a handsfree speakerphone, polyphonic ringtones (polyphonic MIDI, MP3, WAV and video ringtones are supported), a vibrate mode, and picture caller ID. Microsoft Office Outlook Mobile combines email, calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes into a single application that seamlessly integrates with the 700w's phone functions. Meanwhile, headsets, car kits and other wireless peripherals can also be paired with the unit via Bluetooth (the Bluetooth 1.2 specification is supported).

Messaging and Internet The really big news about the 700w is that it supports Verizon's BroadbandAccess high speed wireless data service, allowing you to get DSL speeds wherever you have broadband data coverage. And what can you do with all that speed? Surf the Web faster than ever before using the bundled Internet Explorer application, or log into Pocket MSN and check your Hotmail, use MSN Messenger, or browse the MSN Mobile portal. Robust SMS and MMS functionality is built into the Windows Mobile interface, too.
One of the most important tools bundled with the 700w is Microsoft ActiveSync, which allows you to quickly synchronize your device's tasks, calendars, email, and contacts with your desktop. You also get Exchange ActiveSync, an application that lets you synchronize data with an Exchange server. Syncing can be done via USB, or wirelessly via Bluetooth.

(More customer reviews)What looks good on paper is horrible in use. I would not recommend this phone to anyone, and I will NEVER buy another ETEN product. I posted my first review on a different Amazon listing for this same phone and that listing has been de-activated and this new listing has appeared, so I'm reposting my review in the hopes that it will save someone the headache that I went through with the phone and the company.
I bought this phone about just after it came out, in late January 2007. I was so excited to get it. On paper, the phone looked like the real deal, with everything, GPS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, slider keyboard, touch screen...the works. 3G wasn't such a big deal when the m700 came out, so I could live with EDGE/GPRS. I got the phone, and for the first two weeks I thought it was the greatest thing ever featurewise. Construction-wise, it had a lot to be desired. The slider keyboard is cheap. Compared to other slider phones, ATT Tilt, TMobile Wing, HTC Touch Dual, the sliding mechanism is rough. Those other phones have lightly spring-loaded rollers that make the sliding mechanism very smooth and pleasant. The m700 is just bare plastic on plastic, almost gritty, and difficult to open. The phone is also bulky. If it's in your pocket, forget about trying to fish it out if you're driving, or sitting down.
Everyone else who called me hated my new phone. All inbound callers to this phone were greeted by an ear-splitting screech that lasted for about 2 tenths of a second - just long enough to say OW! and short enough to think it was a fluke, except that it happened every time. To test it, I switched over to my old Motorola v600, and my callers stopped getting the ear-popping screech. When I switched back to my m700, the screech came back.
After 4 months (the end of May), my phone broke. I was on a road trip, using the m700 as an mp3 player (the line out volume was very low) and as my GPS navigation at the same time, when the phone screen went black and a DOS looking boot screen showed up. Then it rebooted again, and again, and again until it finally shut itself off, never to turn on again.
That's when I found out about ETEN's non-existent support. Check ETEN's website and you'll find that there are no US contact numbers for the company. After a fair amount of research and repeatedly pestering the retailer I bought the phone from ([...] - don't buy from them either!), they finally tell me there is only a single (yes only one!) importer for ETEN phones in the US. I don't know this for sure, but I had emailed every contact email on ETEN's website and did not receive a single response. The retailer tells me that ETEN does NOT deal directly with customers and that they won't respond if I contact them directly. Funny, because when I first contacted Samstores about my broken phone, they told me to contact ETEN. I had to hassle with Samstores for almost 2 weeks before they finally gave me an RMA number for the supposed 1 year USA warranty on the phone.
I paid to ship my phone back. After 3 weeks, no response. I called the retailer and left messages - no response. Whenever I spoke with someone who said their "guy" would call me back tomorrow - never called me back. I had to keep calling until someone answered. Finally I got a hold of someone who told me they contacted ETEN. They tell me, "2 more weeks!" I wait and wait. 2 weeks goes by, still no phone. I call the retailer AGAIN and they contact ETEN who tells them it's almost ready. Another week goes by, I finally get the phone back. ZERO work has been done on the phone. It is in the exact same condition as when I shipped it back. I contact the retailer again and ask for a refund or even an exchange for a new phone. They tell me OK, send the phone back and they'll refund my money. It's early August now. I send the phone back with delivery confirmation, pay for shipping again, and wait. I see through online tracking that the phone has been delivered so I call the retailer. Now they tell me, they're not going to issue a refund, that they're shipping the phone back to ETEN again! I'm livid. I pester them every day until they give me the number for their contact at ETEN.
I call him immediately. BEWARE! ETEN's policy is REPAIR ONLY. They will not exchange phone or issue a refund. He tells me they're using a different place now to do the repairs, someplace more "reputable" in California. I wait three weeks, still no phone. I call again, only to discover, for some crazy reason my phone has been shipped back to the UK! After many more phone calls and ANOTHER 3 weeks, I get my phone back. I don't even want the phone anymore, but I'm hoping everything is fixed so I can at least salvage it on eBay. I open the box and plug the phone in. To my utter shock, the phone is STILL BROKEN!!! It is, once again, in the exact same condition in which I shipped it to them - broken. So out of the 1 year "warranty" and the 4 months I used the phone, it was being "repaired" for almost 5 months. In the meantime I bought a different phone - the TMobile Dash (HTC Excalibur) - a fantastic phone, in place of the ETEN phone. No GPS but much smaller, lighter and with an external keyboard that works well for one-handed use, and all the symbols on the keys light up. On the ETEN m700, only the letters would be backlit, so if you were trying to type in the dark, none of the symbols or numbers were visible.
Samstores finally offered me a refund after I contacted them about the second non-repair and threatened to take them to small claims court, just send the phone back and they'll issue a credit to my credit card, they say. I ship the phone back again, paying for shipping again, and call them when I see the delivery confirmation. I don't see the credit on my card statement after a week, so I call them again, and they give me the runaround AGAIN! After two weeks, they blame the distributor. I call the distributor and leave a message about the phone. He calls me back the next day and says he has issued the refund. I call Samstores after this and they say, "We have good news for you...your refund has been issued!" It is now mid-October. Almost 6 months of nothing and I finally get the refund I had asked for in the first place.
So, for those of you considering this phone, it's a fun gadget. Beware if it breaks because you could be in for a long, drawn-out headache. At any rate, they'll quote you 6 weeks for the repair which means you'll have no phone in the meantime, and who knows when you'll get it back, and if it will even work when you get it. Personally, I will NEVER buy another ETEN product, and I would tell anyone who is considering buying an ETEN phone not to buy anything from that company.

I'll start with the positive: the battery does last a long time. That's about it.
The bad: the phone is full with software problems or driver problems. It started with losing the link with a Sony Ericsson bluetooth hands free i had. I though it was the ear piece but I tested and it was ok. I had to delete it and re-pair it almost every day.
Then it continued with not recognizing phone numbers in the phonebook; so if someone in your phonebook called you, one could not see its name or photo and offered you to save the number at the end of the call. It didn't matter if you accepted to save the number, the next time it would go all over again.
The voice dialing is useless.
The contact thought which you charge and connect the phone to the computer is poorly designed and was nearly impossible to get good contact. The last issue I have is that the battery status indicator stopped working; it show full all the time until your phone runs out of battery.
Another issue is that the keys you use for dialing don't have the standard three letters so if you are going to dial say, 1-800-FOR-SONY, it's going to be hard to figure out the actual number.
The phone is really slow
My experience with sony ericsson has not been very satisfactory.

BlackBerry 8700c Cingular GSM Wireless Handheld Review

(More customer reviews)8700c has been my first BlackBerry. I got it a month ago right in the thick of the lawsuit. Cingular 8125 came out soon after that which really made me to consider if I should go for the WIFI-enabled, full size keyboard and MS Office compatible Windows Mobile phone. In fact, I did exchanged for the Cingular 8125...for ONE DAY...before I ran back to the Cingular store and exchanged again for a BlackBerry 8700c. (I almost cried happy tears to have my beloved BlackBerry back from the angry sale rep who had to deal with me.)
Why the BlackBerry is the BEST communication solution I have ever used:
1. BlackBerry email is incredible. What can I say? I guess it's hard to appreciate its greatness without testing Seven Sea's Xpress mail, GoodLink or Windows Mobiles Patch. After I tried other options, oh man, no solution works better than the BlackBerry. It's indeed second to none! When you read about the "alternative services," believe me, they are not comparable to the reliability and the ease of use from the BES.
2. Reliability of the operating system. I think this is by far the most important factor. Windows Mobile freezes or becomes extremely sluggish about 2/3 of the time I use it. It pratcially is useless. BlackBerry however is always responsive, stable, and most importantly you can MAKE phone call and RECEIVE phone call ANYTIME no matter you are running a Google Map or what not. (This is not possible on Windows Mobile. Whenever I am doing some CPU-intensive task the phone will just freezes for about 30 seconds.)
3. EDGE is real fast. No more do I need to say about this.
4. The keyboard works like a charm. The keyboard is MUCH BETTER THAN THE CINGULAR 8125 full size keyboard. I kid you not. Why? Because you can a. ONE HAND OPERATE and b. use it on the go.
The full size keyboard on 8125 is big indeed, but after using it for one day I realized its uselessness. Since you have to expand the keyboard on the 8125 and use both hands to type, you MUST place that device on a table in order to hold it stll (since both of your hands aren't free) and type. That maens you basically have NO WAY to input anything-name, calendar, task, website address, etc-on the go. And boys, if I don't use cell phone on the go, I don't know why do I use it for. If every time I do the above task I have to sit down in front of a flat surface, why don't I just get a dang laptop??
So don't get fooled into the "sliding full size keyboard myth" because it's plainly meaningless.
5. It's sturdy and it looks really good. 8125 feels awkward on your hand and big/heavy in the pocket. 8700c however is actually quite elegant.
6. The phone quality is by far the best. I talk when I am driving above 75 mph very often. It has been hard for any phone (Samsung or Moto) to be loud enough for me to hear. I remember using speaker phone on my Samsung phones and put it on my ear in order to hear. But with 8700c, not only its reception is super (much better than 8125), its clarity is great, it's over-the-top loud!
7. Intuitive operation. Oh my God, I finally understood the success of BlackBerry in using it operating system-its ease of use with the thumb. You see, Windows Mobile is made by Microsoft which makes GUI OS like Windows. GUI means the need for a mouse. On PDA it means a stylus and many layers of "folders." Guys, it's practically useless on a phone if whatever you need to do with it, you need to hold it with one hand and take out a stylus to scroll/type. Why? How in the world am I going to do that when I am eating, driving, walking, etc, at the same time as operating my phone? Omg, Microsoft is NOT thinking about this. Who uses his/her phone sitting down in front of a desk? Maybe you, but I ALWAYS use it when I am multitasking--walking, listening to speech, driving, drinking, eating dinner, waiting for a table, watching movie, sitting on the toilet, etc, etc. BlackBerry's navigation works way better than any other device method I have ever heard of. It's simply intuitive.
8. The following functions are not only excellent, they set industry standard by going way above and beyond over its competitors:
a. phone logs. It stores unlimited number of events (missed call, dialed call, received call) per the last 20 contacts. Each event includes time and duration. EACH! You simply have over 3~400 events easily.
b. font. It has wide selection of pleasant fonts of different styles and size. They look grrrreeat.
c. screen. 320x240 is really high resolution for a screen this size. You can arrange the folders and icons on the screen by applying theme and manually hide/unhide icon so that you largely have an empty desktop to show your favorite picture!
b. phone. the dailing, the calling features, are all excellent! It's really easy to send SMS, Email or PIN to anyone on your contact. You can right click on the contact and select one of the following functions-view history, SMS this person, email this person, call this person, PIN this person, etc. Once you click on "Call this person" for example, a menu will come up and ask you which number. It's just so simple yet powerful.
c. the categorization of all your messages (sent and received) in one single box differentiated by icon. It's really a smart idea. Windows Mobile gives you an Outlook style menu tree that has over 30 different folders on its tiny screen requires a style to select each time. Think about it, when you are using a phone to read messages, is it more important to organize it clearly in outlook style (which is designed for the use of a mouse) or in a centralized place where you can simply navigate it by one thumb? Oh my, Windows Mobile is not impressive AT ALL. What is Microsoft thinking? Look at how BlackBerry can do the simple task well.
d. the auto dimming works great! Under bright sunlight the screen lights up ultra bright to acomodate the environment. When it's not too bright, the screen brightness decreases and the keyboard turns off (since the ambient light is enough to see the keyboard), when it's completely dark, the keyboard will light up again while the screen stays dim. (Thus at least three different modes.)
e. theme is very, very pretty. Aesthetically pleasing. Much prettier and artistic than Windows Mobile.
f. I like the airplane mode, the alarm clock (finally loud enough for me) and the expansive options for manual modification.
g. You not only are able to customize the profile (ring tone style and volumn) down to every single type per profile (message, level one message, phone, calendar, browser, task, etc), you can also SET MULTIPLE EXCEPTIONS and ACTIVATE EACH EXCEPTION INDEPENDENTLY!! Exception means you can turn off the vibration/sound completely off in a theatre, but unless this number calls in which the phone will use an overriding profile. So if you are waiting for imporatnt phone call, you can definitely let it get thru. It's sort of a "Do-Not-Disturb" guard and "VIP-only" kind of thing.
In conclusion, this phone is powerful and completely designed for business purpose and business people oriented.

(More customer reviews)You can find a great phone or a great PDA, but combine them and even the best smartphone will fall short in some respect. Understanding which tradeoffs fit your profile is the key. You will appreciate the XV-6800 if you: 1.) Have ever been called a nerd; 2.) value an endlessly customizable productivity and entertainment gadget; and, 3.) can live with okay-not-great phone functionality. On the other hand, if you are a power phone user (and/or prefer a simple interface to one with exposed complexity), you may find a simpler cell phone a better choice.
A WORD ABOUT THICKNESS
There's a widely-accepted myth that phones with slide-out keyboards are thick because of, well, the keyboard. It's not true. Like cell phone screens, they're wafer-thin: It's the battery (typically located beneath the keys) that's to blame. Because consumers comparison shop for long talk/standby time and power-draining features (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth), hefty batteries are a necessary evil.
The XV-6800 is a case in point. At about the size of an elongated Altoids tin, and weighing 5.8 ounces, it is objectively neither large nor heavy. Yet at 1.2 ounces per cubic inch of volume, pick it up and "solid" comes to mind. It's like the old trick question, "Which weighs more: a pound of feathers, or a pound of iron?" Anyway, something to keep in mind about weight and form factor.
AS A CELL PHONE
Strictly as a cell phone, the XV-6800 is competent. Reception is good, especially given the internal antenna. Voice quality is okay; speakerphone volume could be better. Power phone users may prefer a device with real (not graphical) keys; getting the keypad screen back on to input numbers or navigate phone trees is often an extra step. After the voice speed dial function kept popping up for no apparent reason, I disabled it.
SCREEN
The QVGA (320x240 pixel) touch screen is bright (adjustable in 10 increments), with good contrast, and rich color. At 2.8 inches, there's less "screen door" effect than with larger QVGA screens. Web pages render well, and even the tiny text found on non-mobile optimized web pages is quite readable.
KEYBOARD
About a second after the back-lit QWERTY keyboard clicks open, the screen switches from portrait to landscape viewing mode. Keystrokes offer positive tactile feedback and a muted click to let you know you typed a letter. After a couple of minutes getting used to the function key, you will find yourself thumb-typing away. If you simply can't deal with tiny keyboards, you can always summon the familiar graphical keyboard and hunt-and-peck using the stow-away collapsible stylus.
OPERATING SYSTEM & SOFTWARE
The phone ships with Windows Mobile 6.0 operating system (OS) and Windows Mobile 6 Professional. The OS is stable and seems more crash-free than previous versions, and is helped by the device's abundant memory. Included are pleasantly usable mobile versions of Adobe Reader, Excel, Word (intuitive, with lots of formatting options), and PowerPoint. The Internet Explorer Mobile browser works well (there is a handy launch button top right on front), with websites downloading quickly where the Verizon EV/DO data network is available.
Before considering this device a laptop replacement, though, see if creating spreadsheets and composing documents on a 2.8-inch screen is an appealing idea for you. I don't mind it, but if you are moving toward reading glasses and large text, you may be happier knowing they're there to read email attachments.
RANDOM SETUP TIP
After extensive troubleshooting and re-installs, the device was still not recognized by my PC. Here's what worked: Start > Settings > Connections tab > USB to PC. I then un-checked "Enable advanced network functionality." If it doesn't do the trick, you can re-enable it and move on.
CAMERA
The two megapixel (1600 x 1200) camera takes pretty good pictures. The many edge-of-screen icons suggest daunting complexity, but they are actually an advantage because you won't have to navigate through pages of menus just to check settings. There is slight shutter delay (this is won't replace a serious camera), but for a smartphone, it's better than you would expect. One other note: What looks like an exposed lens is actually a clear and fairly hard lens cover. It is slightly recessed and seems unlikely to scratch.
CONCLUSION
Overall, the XV-6800 is a powerful, flexible, configurable device that will be more rewarding for a tech-savvy user than for someone who thinks of it as "a cell phone with extras."

Little, history, I have had the Origional Treo, 200, 600, and 650. This is the best of them all. I swtiched two windows mobile 2 years ago because... well the PALM OS is dead in my book. That aside, I really missed the treo. I think palm gets how to build a nice device.
Keyboard: Works great. I find for a thumb keyboard and now with some experience I can fly with it. Personally, I love the thumb keyboard. Perfect for one handed operation with little compromise.
Thin: This thing fits very nicely into the pocket and the screen guard is excellent. I dont even know I have it with me and I never accidently Dial anyone. It fits in the hand wonderfully.
Buttons.. Some devices are going away from having so many buttons. However I like the ability to launch frequent programs. The Pro is great at letting you customize. (You have many hardware buttons and some of them can also be configured to have an Option + Hardware button application bound to them)
Also, you have hardware button access to volume control and wifi.
GPS: Works great. I installed and worked right away.
Power: this device is not a power pig. With normal use I get a good run off it. Mind you, I use applications on it all day along and SMS extensively.
Camera: I havent used it. Frankly, it doesnt matter how many mega pixels any phone has, it still just a phone camera. Quality is never that good. But it is good enough for those fun quick shots.
Dislikes: well, the screen is a standard windows mobile device screen. I was hoping for a new device, especially manufactured by HTC it would have a bit more kick to it. However, its very functional and does what I want. One thing I love is how they built into the keyboard access to the brightness control. This is something all devices should have. Its really hard to increase the brightness if you can read the screen. No problem with the treo.
The ALT key on the keyboard allows you to access characters not on the keyboard, including accented letters for various languages. What I dont like is that its a little window that shows up with about 8 characters show and you scroll to see more. Well there are a lot of characters, it would be better if they just filled the screen so you can quickly find the special character you want.
Windows Mobile Phone Dialer stinks! This is true in my opinion for any windows mobile device. Its a phone, but you have to navigate often 2 to 3 screens deep just to get a phone number. For example, you start typing someones name and the dialer appears. It instantly starts searching for a name. Great! When you select a name by pressing enter, it pulls up their contact screen. (HUH???) yes, you now get to see more info about them. I just want to DIAL the phone number. Long story short, for simple dialing its more complicated than it needs to be. Second, the Windows Mobile phone dialer always seems unresponsive and slow. Its a phone... but the phone is slow. it makes no sense. This is not a critisim against the treo, but if this your first Windows Mobile device you will be a bit disappointed with this.
My Final gripe is that it uses the Micro USB Cable. I dont know why. All I can say is that about 90% of my small electronic gizmos use Mini usb and now I have a new cable standard to deal with. I am sure there is some value to it, but I dont see it. Yes, the connector is smaller, but the cable is still just as thick and just as long. So why I need a thinner (by maybe a few hair widths) I dont know.

(More customer reviews)I have been Palm user since 2005, and I have had 3 models: Treo 650 (3 1/2 years), Treo Pro (2 days), and now Palm Centro (one week). The Centro is smaller and lighter, the voice of the person who is calling is most clear and louder than the 650, it does not have antenna, and the camera has best resolution; but, on the other hand, the disadvantages are: the battery works 2 days against 5 of the 650, and the access to the memory card and the SIM is difficult, when in the 650 is very easy.
I do not recommend the Palm Treo Pro, because uses the Windows Mobile OS, that is difficult to use; open the Office documents slowly, the battery drains rapidly, less than one day, and the cover of the battery is very hard to remove it.

(More customer reviews)I'm ranking this 4 stars against the other phones that verizon has to offer. So the only reason it is 4 stars, its the only pocket pc available from them currently. A Samsung i730 is due out -soon- whatever that means.. but i couldnt wait.
The good:
+Touch screen phone buttons
+Large vibrant color screen
+Battery life is great (for me), I noticed someone wrote a review mentioning battery life was bad. That is true if you have Bluetooth on all the time.
+Slide out QWERTY keypad that lights up for visability
+Microsoft Operating System, and limited versions of Outlook, Excel, Word, Internet Explorer
+Ability to write on the screen anywhere with stylus and have it recognize handwriting
+SD Memory port
+Bluetooth
+A decent Digital Camera built in
+Ability to get POP3 or IMAP email (unlike proprietary palm or blackberry)
+Plays mp3's and media with media player 9
+Terminal services
The Bads:
-Internet Explorer revision is 4.0 and it is locked by default so i cant install an update.
-Cant seem to install software easily or the phone is completely locked from putting anything non verizion on it.
-Handwriting recognition is fair at best. It seems to recognize cursive better than manuscript. I've tried to customize the letter menu to how i write, but after spending a hour doing so, it worked worse than it did with defaults.
-Cant use MP3 ringtones, must be .mid or .wav (what were they thinkin on .wav??? if you cant do mp3)
-Bluetooth kills battery life
-No 802.11x wireless
-Screen Scratches fairly easy
The Ugly:
--Had it lock up a couple times where i couldnt do anything and had to pull the battery.
--Earpiece on phone is not very loud
--Ringers are not hardly noticible in volumeIf there were any other options pocket pc wise on Verizon, I would definately look in to them. But this is the only thing they have and its better than blackberry and palm, even with its problems. I love the email abilities of this phone, and the scheduling is great, plus you can link up to your PC and sync them.
I can live with the various glitches here and there, but the ringer and earpiece volume is something they didnt think through so well. A speakerphone would have also been nice. The phone does have some great portable features in excel, word and the browser isnt too bad. Its fairly quick browsing internet considering its using the standard phone network. But the browser does limit you to what kinds of sites you can go to because of its 4.0 revision.
One thing I thought was pretty nifty is the terminal services or remote desktop client thats built in. I was able to log in on one of my web servers and poke around.
This phone definately has some good features and some irritating qualities. So until Verizon releases the Samsung pocket pc, I have to rate this the best phone they offer.
