Samsung U740 Bluetooth Camera QWERTY Cell Phone Verizon Review

Girlfriend loves this type of phone, when hers broke down I was going to buy her a replacement from eBay. Someone said I should check on amazon for the phone which I wound up doing. Phone was described as in great shape, when we received the phone one of the buttons was missing, the old owners music and messages full of profanity and some pictures were still on the phone. The seller I guess took offense to my rating and called my girlfriend up wanting to know why I rated the experience the way I did and she told him. I don't want a new phone or anything like that just please as a seller double check the items you are shipping out to your customers and make sure they are what you say.

Pantech Matrix C740 Unlocked 3G AT&T Dual Slide GPS Cell Phone Blue Review

OK so internally this phone is awesome. Has great security features and easy to use. However I purchased this item used, described as being in excellent condition. FALSE!!!!!!!! The paint has these weird black bubbles in it, the micro sd compartment was broken but still held the chip. Not only did it slide up and down, and side to side, but if you open it quickly it opens all ways, That is NOT supposed to happen. This was supposed to be a present but it is visibly USED, and NOT in excellent condition, ask to see a photo of the phone you want to purchase, I have contacted the seller, and they have promised a full refund. However I am busy planning a wedding and took the phone with me to Maryland so I could ship it from there, I got really busy and never had the opportunity to mail it, and on top of that I left it there, I live in Ohio. I don't know when my fiance's parents will be able to mail it so by the time they mail it and I get it and then pay to return it, it'll probably be past the return date, and will be stuck with a crappy used phone. I paid 75 for it. I found a LG Xenon Touch screen BRAND NEW for 119 shipped. Got that and its a great phone, plus its not used, spend the extra 35 dollars and get a new phone. Avoid the hassle.

Motorola Rival A455 Phone, Purple (Verizon Wireless) Review

Motorola Rival A455 Phone, Purple (Verizon Wireless)

I have been looking around for an upgrade and after a couple of months settled on this one - love it! The sound is great, no delay when talking cell-cell or cell-landline. Added bonus for me is the music player; I downloaded my music to a micro memory card and use it every evening for walking! I walk 5 miles a night and it doesn't even drop the battery one bar; great batter life! Also, did I mention it uses regular headphones; no need to buy the expensive one! Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. If there is a downfall to this phone it would be the speed dial; you have to open up to the qwerty key-board to use it, it will not work from the touch keypad for dialing numbers (at least I haven't figured it out if you can).

Samsung U740 Alias Black Phone (Verizon Wireless) Review

Samsung U740 Alias Black Phone (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After nearly six months in waiting to get rid of my old and broken Audiovox cellphone, I received my Samsung SCH-u740 from Fed-Ex. But, for the six months of waiting, I had some big choices to make. I am a texter. Verizon offers a $10 IN 500 text message plan that I have been using for a while now. But I hate how I have to use the classic cellphone text: three or four letters per number and painful headaches. Texting should not be a headache. And that's where the u740's QWERTY keyboard offering comes in handy...
The u740 is a dual hinge phone. It opens two ways: one like a standard flip phone and two like a laptop, from the side. When you open it like a standard flip phone, you'll see a nice D-Pad with a big "OK" button in the middle accompanied with two gray pre-set buttons to access Menu and Contacts or choose options while using the camera, etc. You'll also see small numbers with the standard texting system (pqrs, etc.) highlighted in gray. These buttons are also on the keyboard once you flip it the other way, revealing a full-scale QWERTY keyboard. When you're not typing a text message or in memo form, the gray buttons will act as numerical buttons in order for you to call people from the sideways-opening feature. It's a bit of a problem here, because calling people from the sideways feature requires you to remember your numbers all over again because they're sideways. (See the next paragraph for solutions...) The QWERTY keyboard is accompanied by a num lock button, which allows you to type in buttons to access symbols and numbers while texting. It makes it an easy and fluid feature.
The keyboard is a bit cramped, though, but there are some new features that come with the phone that make life a lot easier. For one, most new VZW phones come with VoiceSignal, a voice command feature that allows you to speak through the speakerphone to call people and translate your voice into a text message. "Dictate Message" allows you to say words you'd like to include in a text without typing--it requires a 3 minute session for VoiceSignal to become familiar with your voice. And, as long as you train it properly, it will say basic words right. But, longer words (such as "banana") take so much time. It took me 13 words to actually get banana, which was actually pretty sad. The feature isn't the best, but it's a step up. VoiceSignal allows you to call out numbers and people and have your phone immediately call them. This works great when you flip the phone sideways so you don't have to memorize typing numbers sideways.
Like most Verizon phones today, the u740 includes the full workings of the popular (argumentatively) VCAST service, which features Music, Video, Games, and News for download (for a fee). It also allows you to buy ring tones through applications for small fees and use VCAST Song ID, Verizon's latest technology that allows you to identify songs that are playing. This feature is rewarding and handy when you're on the road and here something you like, but it takes some time (I'd say about a minute in total). Unless you're an absolute music junkie, you might just want to go along your way and forget about it. The VCAST service only works in the sideways flip form, which is a bit odd. This phone has a nice speaker and could serve as a great music phone, except for the exclusion of the standard 2.5mm port. It comes with a headset adaptor that you plug in to the charger slot. Then, you must find the smaller headphones (or even get a different adapter for the standard port), which seems too much of a hassle to me. And, to download music from your PC to the u740 requires a VCAST Music package, which retails for $30.
The u740 has a decent camera (1.3MP) that takes great photos when the lighting is right. It also has a teeny stamp screen on the front, and I think that Samsung should have made the front screen a bit bigger. (The LG VX8600 has a lovely front screen that allows you to view texts from the front) And, it includes pre-set play, next song, and previous song buttons that are nice to use if you're listening to music. But, like all Verizon phones, you can't listen to any music while using other components of the phone, so it ain't that rewarding. On the sides of the phone, you have the charger slot, a handy microSD slot (for storing video, music, photos without having to go through the hassle of buying the VCAST music pack), a dedicated VoiceSignal button, a dedicated HOLD button, a volume rocker, but no dedicated camera button. This was quite surprising.
If you're looking at the u740, you've probably also looked at the VX990. If you have fat fingers and need to type on a full scale keyboard, the VX990 is probably for you, but at the same time, the u740 can fit in your pocket without revealing a big bump. The LG enV/VX990 cannot do that. This is why the phone is so enticing.
Overall, the u740 is a great phone that has really been good to me so far. Available in two colors, Champagne Gold or Black, the phone is sleek and sexy, thanks to its dual-hinge technology, QWERTY keyboard, and RAZR-like thinness. It's an attractive package and Verizon's best phone for texters. Right now, it retails for about $100.
So if you're in to texting and don't mind the cramped keyboard, take the u740 in stride and enjoy. I'm sure you will!
Pros:
*Dual-hinge flipping
*Full-scale QWERTY keyboard with symbols available through NUM LOCK
*Access to Verizon's large multimedia service, VCAST
*VCAST Song ID Capable
*microSD slot
*VoiceSignal/Dictate Message Service
*Sleek, sexy, and THIN like Motorola's RAZR.
*Great speakerphone
Cons:
*QWERTY keyboard is a bit cramped.
*No dedicated camera button on the outside of the phone.
*Stamp front screen that can only show the time.
*No standard headphone jack, even with adapter.
For the texting savvy: Recommended
For the phone user: Not Recommended
For the businessman replacing his smartphone: Not Recommended
For the teenager: Recommended

The phone is very simple to use. I don't partically like it because the camera doesn't have a zoom-in function, the photos come out not very good (it's 2 megapixels), the batteries die really quickly (I have to charge it every three days even when I don't really make many calls) and the music plays pretty loudly when you're trying to listen to it with earphones on.

LG enV2 - Cellular phone - CDMA2000 1X - folder (flip) - QWERTY - maroon - Verizon Review

LG enV2 - Cellular phone - CDMA2000 1X - folder (flip) - QWERTY - maroon - Verizon
Average Reviews:

My Verizon contract was up in November, but I debated for months as to whether I should re-up, change providers, or just stay with Verizon with no contract. I wanted a new phone, but couldn't decide what I needed. I was stuck in inertia. I was also afraid that the day after I bought a phone, something new would be released and I'd be kicking myself for two years!
Waiting paid off. Early in May, Verizon introduced the LG enV2, a nifty cross between a regular cell phone and a smart phone. I decided to step into the 21st century and ordered one in a snazzy maroon color.
Can I say I love this phone! As a phone, it blows me away. The sound is crystal clear and the battery life astounding. I even love the selection of standard ring tones. But beyond being a phone, the enV2 is like carrying around a miniature laptop.
I took a month's free trial on Verizon's Internet access plan and have been enjoying checking email and reading news on my phone. I didn't think I needed it, but I find that when I'm stuck somewhere waiting or away from home or my office, it's great to be able to check email. I'm definitely going to stick with this feature.
The phone looks great and opens up to display a miniature QWERTY keyboard that makes writing text messages simple. Plus it just looks cool!
I would recommend this phone to anyone who wants something more than a simple phone but doesn't want to invest in a full smart phone. The LG enV2 is smart enough for me!

More compact and lighter in weight, the LG enV2 updates the original enV with a redesign accentuates both sleek style and easy usability. The front of the enV2 now features a numeric keypad with larger keys, and it opens up to reveal a large 2.4-inch LCD and its signature hidden QWERTY keypad--perfect for all your text messaging and email needs. Advanced features like auto text readout, message sort, and the ability to store up to 300 text messages enhance your mobile messaging experience.
It's compatible with Verizon's V Cast Music Service, which enables you to purchase songs through your phone and download them via Verizon's fast EV-DO data network. You'll also stay on course thanks to the VZ Navigator GPS turn-by-turn direction service. Other features include a 2.0-megapixel camera with video capture capabilities, Bluetooth connectivity for communication headsets and stereo music streaming, microSD memory card expansion (up to 8 GB), and over 5 hours of talk time.
Verizon Service Options With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you'll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon's multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) The V Cast Music service enables you to download songs instantly to your phone, or purchase music through your PC and transfer the files to your phone. If purchased from your phone, you'll receive two copies of the song: a Windows Media Audio Pro Plus format at 64Kbps stereo is sent to your phone, and a Windows Media Audio 9 format at 160Kbps stereo is sent to your account in the V CAST Music online store for downloading to your PC. V Cast Music offers nearly 2 million songs, with more being added all the time.
The V Cast Video service enables you to stream or download video clips to your phone from a variety of news, entertainment, sports, and weather channels, including CNN, ABC News, E!, CBS Sports, The Weather Channel, and VH1.
Getting on the Internet is easy using Verizon's Mobile Web 2.0 package, which allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. Verizon's Get It Now wireless download service is also fully compatible with this phone. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Get It Now service.
With this GPS-enabled phone, you'll be able to access Verizon's VZ Navigator service (additional charges applicable) for voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions, heads-up alerts, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US (such as landmarks, restaurants and ATMs), and detailed color maps. And Verizon's Chaperone service lets you easily locate your loved ones from your Verizon Wireless phone or PC in real time. After defining a zone, such as an area designating a school or summer camp, you'll be sent an alert via text message when the Chaperone handset enters or leaves the zone.
Phone Features Much more easily pocketable, the enV2 has slimmed down to 0.65 inches thin from the original enV's 0.78-inch depth, and it's shorter at just 4 inches tall (down from 4.64 inches). The camera on the enV2 is now flush with the back, where the original had a ring that was slightly raised around the lens. The front of the enV2 has a wide, thin 1.45-inch LCD screen with a 160 x 45-pixel resolution and 262K colors. The keypad features large, widely spaced keys for easy dialing, a dedicated music button, 5-way navigation, and send/end buttons. Flipping open the enV2 reveals the full QWERTY keyboard and a large 2.4-inch LCD (20 percent larger than the previous model) with a 320 x 240-pixel resolution and 262K colors. Dialing function buttons are also duplicated on the internal touchpad.
The phone has a 63 MB internal memory and offers memory expansion up to 8 GB using optional microSD memory cards. The enV2's built-in address book can store up to 1000 contacts, and each entry can store 5 numbers, 2 email addresses, and a picture ID. The phone comes with 23 unique polyphonic ringtones, and it has vibrate and silent modes when you need to keep things quiet. The phone lets you match pictures with callers to identify them, and the enV's voice recognition software supports voice commands from any user, not just a pre-programmed user's voice. What's more, many of the phone's functions can be controlled by the sound of your voice, thanks to advanced voice recognition technology. Text-to-speech technology enables the enV to read emails and text messages to you, if you so desire.
A one-touch speakerphone means you can easily talk hands-free, while Bluetooth (version 1.2) allows you to use your favorite wireless headset. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. It also includes profiles for printing images directly to printers, dial-up networking, and sending vCard and vCalendar items to other phones. You can save up to 20 Bluetooth pairings.
The 2-megapixel camera has four resolution modes for still photos (from 1600 x 1200 for printing to 320 x 240 pixels for sending via MMS). It features a 10x digital zoom, self-timer, night mode, and customizable settings for brightness and white balance. An internal image editor enables you to rotate, zoom, crop, and add color effects. The camera can also capture video with sound and it offers two resolution settings (320 x 240 and 176 x 144 pixels). You can shoot for up to an hour for saving or 30 seconds for sending.
You can easily add new music to your collection while on the go from Verizon's V Cast Music service and listen to them on the integrated digital audio player, which offers compatibility with MP3, WMA, AAC/AAC+ file formats. You can sync your tunes from your PC (Windows Media Player 11 or higher), as well as create and manage playlists right on the phone. The enV2 can also play video clips from Verizon's V Cast Video service, and ti's compatible with WMV, MP4, 3GP, and 3G2 formats.
The enV has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging, too, with support for sending and receiving text, picture, and video messages as well as mobile instant messaging (IM). There's also a complete e-mail client on the device for POP- and IMAP-based accounts. And of course, the QWERTY keyboard makes it a snap to type your messages. The enV ships with a number of handy tools, including a calendar and a voice memo application. An alarm clock and calculator are also included. The enV supports V Cast 3-D games, as well as other 2-D-based games, which are available from Verizon's Get It Now service. Hello and thank you for reading this review.
I am a phone app developer and have had some 'face time' with the Nokia N97. I'll let you know some of the more in depth details so you can decide if this is the right phone for you or not. There are many positive features about this phone, but a few potential pitfalls for power users as well. Average users will probably never notice any of the pitfalls, but probably will never use some of the best features of this phone either to justify the cost.
This is the new Nokia flagship phone and it packs almost every feature anyone could ever want. It has a DVD quality camcorder with sample videos found here:
http://www.vimeo.com/4352001
Notice how well the mic picks up the creeks of the boats in Monte Carlo, and how rich the colors look. That is due to the Carl Zeiss lens Nokia has put in. The quality is also great and can be sent directly to the TV via the TV out cable, but I would recommend making a DVD from the memory card as the quality of the cable isn't as good as the DVD quality this phone provides. Video starts up quickly, which is an improvement from the previous versions.
The pictures taken by this phone are of very good quality. Many consumers are fooled by 'megapixels' (mp). Well folks, after 5mp or so, mp doesn't mean much. All it does is make your picture size better, it does NOT increase the QUALITY. I assume most of us aren't pro graphic artists that need huge pictures to zoom in on the most minute detail, and if you are, then you probably don't need this review :P
The lens and picture quality of this phone is superb, but not as good as the Samsung 8 sadly. It is by far tho, one of the best mobile phone cameras around. You can notice some problems in darker areas and they went with a dual LED flash instead of the Xeon gas flash. The Xeon gas flash would have provided much better lighting in low light situations, however as a phone enthusiast I feel it's good enough.

Judge for yourself.
This phone is a TRUE smart phone OS which means you can download apps for it such as VPN software to connect to your office network and apps such as PUTTY or RDP clients to remote control real computers at the house/office. With 3G speeds the potential is limitless. Now for the bad. Nokia decided to use the old ARM II CPU found in the N85, 95, etc. phones but increased the clockspeed (mhz) slightly. We were looking forward to the new TI cpu which would have provided much better speeds, at the cost of battery life. They also stuck with 128mb ram with about 80mb available after boot up. I don't know about you but after I load up all of my apps and get cranking, I eat that up. I was able to notice some slow down in the pre-build when I:
-opened up several websites w/ flash content
-ran the music player
-opened up 'widget' applications
-tried basic functionality
Most users will probably never do that. If you are a power user, then you probably already know about the Samsung Omnia HD which boasts of similer features, but also the new faster CPU and dedicated GFX chip which means you can play Ipod type 3d games with ease. The final point is with the potentially underpowered CPU, you will not be able to play the super high resolution videos the Samsung can play.
Finally this phone has the slower 3G speeds which don't reach 7mbps, will you need 7mbps? Probably not. I think for 99% of users, the current 3G speeds offered by this phone are fine.
I tried out the phone and pre-ordered, I can't wait to get it. I can't wait to develop some 'widget' applications for it and really see the power of this phone with the newer more stable build.
Thank you for reading this, feel free to respond, yell, scream, or ask any questions!

Designed for the needs of Internet-savvy mobile phone users, the Nokia N97 will transform the way people connect to the Internet and to each other. It combines a large 3.5-inch touch display with a full QWERTY keyboard which flips open at an angle for optimal viewing. This provides an "always open" window to your favorite social networking sites and Internet destinations. And with integrated A-GPS sensors and an electronic compass, the device intuitively understands where it is, giving you the ability to update your status on social networks and instant messaging as well as share your location and related pictures or videos with approved friends.
The quad-band Nokia N97 GSM/EDGE phone makes it easy to roam globally and stay in touch with voice and text messaging, and this model is also ready to run on 3G networks both in the US and internationally (850/1900/2100 MHz HSDPA), enabling fast downloads and streaming multimedia while on the go. It also includes integrated Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g) for accessing open networks at work, home, and on the road from a variety of wireless hotspots. You'll also be able to connect to a wide variety of peripherals--including stereo headphones--with the Bluetooth 2.0+EDR capabilities.

The Nokia N97 includes 32 GB of on-board storage and is expandable via optional 16 GB MicroSD memory cards for up to 48 GB of storage. The 5-megapixel camera offers high-quality Carl Zeiss optics, 16:9 and DVD-quality video capture, and support for services like Share on Ovi for immediate sharing over HSDPA and WLAN. Other features include an easily customizable home screen, access to both personal and corporate email, Quickoffice document viewers, TV-out capability for displaying photos and videos on external televisions, stereo FM radio, USB 2.0 connectivity, and up to 9.5 hours of GSM talk time (6 hours when using 3G networks).

Unlocked Phone This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides quad-band connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz). It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider. This phone comes with a full manufacturer's warranty.

Additionally, this phone can be paired with 850/1900 MHz UMTS/HSDPA 3G networks in the United States (as well as 2100 MHz 3G networks found around the world, including in Europe and Asia). When paired with a compatible 3G network, you'll enjoy a high-speed connection offering a variety of feature-rich wireless services--from data connectivity to your office to multimedia streaming, and take advantage of simultaneous voice and data services. In areas not served by a 3G network, you'll continue to receive data service via EDGE network (depending on network compatibility).

Note that the downloading of maps, games, music and videos and uploading of images and videos involves transferring large amounts of data. Your service provider may charge for the data transmission, and the availability of particular services and features may vary by carrier.

Phone Features Large and gorgeously colorful, the Nokia N97's 3.5-inch touch display offers a 640 x 360-pixel resolution and support for up to 16.7 million colors for an excellent color depth. The resistive touch screen includes haptic feedback so you know when you've pressed a key or onscreen menu, brightness control, an ambient light detector, and an orientation sensor that effortlessly switches from portrait to landscape viewing. The N97's home screen features the people, content and media that matter the most, including friends, social networks and news. The 16:9 widescreen display can be fully personalized with frequently updated widgets of favorite web services and social networking sites. It's also perfectly suited for browsing the web, streaming Flash videos or playing games.

When you're ready to start typing email or text/instant messages, just flip the N97 on its left side and slide the face up to reveal the full QWERTY keyboard. The display pivots to an angle that makes it easy to read the screen while you're typing.

With A-GPS functionality, you'll be able find your route quickly and easily, whether walking or driving (A-GPS is a network dependent feature that requires a data plan; additional charges may apply). The Nokia Maps application offers richer maps with urban details and satellite views and the ability to search and download information about points of interests, such as restaurants, hotels, companies, travel agencies, airports, and more. Let the built-in compass keep you pointing in the right direction--the map adapts to point the same way you do. Use the Walk pedestrian navigation to find your way, or the voice-guided Drive navigation to find the best route. The Nokia N97 comes with a three-month Walk and Drive navigation license.

The Nokia N97 supports email accounts from more than a thousand internet service providers (ISPs) around the world (SMTP, IMAP4, POP3), as well as Gmail, Yahoo! mail and Hotmail. People who use Microsoft Exchange at work can access their email using the Mail for Exchange mobile email client, which comes pre-loaded (an Exchange email account is required and your Exchange Administrator must have enabled your account for synchronization). You'll enjoy reliable real-time access to your email, calendar, contacts and tasks, as well as be able to download attachments like Word, Excel, Powerpoint or PDF files directly to the device.

With the Carl Zeiss optics on the 5-megapixel camera (2584 x 1938 pixels), you can capture print quality photos and DVD-like quality video clips. Carl Zeiss, a world leader in high quality camera lenses, brings an award-winning legacy to the Nokia N96 with state-of-the-art optics for mobile photography and mobile video. The Zeiss name has been associated with cameras from Hasselblad, Rollei, Yashica, Sony, and Nikon. The camera offers an auto-focus Carl Zeiss lens, dual LED flash, up to 14x digital zoom, and JPEG/EXIF still image file format.

The N97 can also capture videos in a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio at 30 frames per second (fps). It includes digital video stabilization, settings for scene, video light, white balance and color tone, and up to a 90-minute clip length. Other features include automatic location tagging (geotagging) of images/videos, images taken in the correct orientation automatically, and Cover Flow viewing of photos with finger motions. Upload your photos and videos to Ovi Share and share them online with friends and family.

This smartphone has an integrated Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g), enabling seamless connectivity with wireless networks at work, at home, and on the roam via Wi-Fi hotspots at airports and coffee shops. Because it's Bluetooth enabled (with version 2.0+EDR), wireless communication headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands-free operation. It also offers Bluetooth stereo audio support (A2DP), enabling you to enjoy your music without any wires. If your laptop is Bluetooth enabled, you can connect wirelessly and enjoy dial-up networking (DUN)--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.

I love my phone. I am glad I purchase this phone. My sim card from At&t fit in the phone. I have not try to open pictures yet. It took me a lot of time to change the ring tone and figure out some of functions but I'm completely satisfied. The color great because I love pink.

LG enV VX9900 Phone, Orange (Verizon Wireless, Phone Only, No Service) Review

LG enV VX9900 Phone, Orange (Verizon Wireless, Phone Only, No Service)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The background paragraph: I work for a cell phone software company porting games to the many cell phones available on the market. What that can be boiled down to is that I have a lot of knowledge of handset quirks/bugs, stability, and look+feel, but not much knowledge for comparing handsets on how well they operate when placing actual phone calls, or trying to carry the phone around in your pocket, etc. It should also be noted that I mainly have experience with brew phones (Verizon, Alltel, US Cellular, Cricket, etc), and next to no experience with j2me phones (Sprint, Cingular, etc). The vx9900 is a brew device.
When it came time to upgrade my old LG vx8100, I choose the LG vx9900 Orange (enV Orange). Based on my own personal needs, I feel it is the best brew device on the market at the time of this writing. I did not give it a 5-star rating because the web browser on all current Verizon phones leaves something to be desired. This looks to be changing for the new models of phones being released later this year.
Below, any point which is a positive editorial is prefixed with a "(+)". Any point which is a negative editorial is prefixed with a "(-)". A neutral editorial is denoted with a "(.)".
SHAPE
-----
(+) The phone feels good in the hands. Not every phone does. Its edges are well curved.
(.) Nothing special about how well it is carried in a pocket. It's not as light as the various razr's, but it is the slimmest brew device that offers a qwerty keyboard.
(+) As a previous reviewer pointed out, the 9900 actually LOOKS like a camera when it is used for that purpose. See the "camera" section below for more details.
(-) When the device is opened, and if is placed on a desk to type on like a mini desk-top computer, it will wobble. This is because the back of the phone is not level, on account of the camera lens which protrudes 2mm. The wobble does make using the keyboard in this manner impractical, though not impossible. Luckily, it won't damage the lens due to the lens cover.
HOWEVER: Something which I have not read in other reviews which have written about this design flaw is that the wobble can be reduced to a practical level (but not eliminated entirely) if the phone is opened to a full 180 degrees. A little-known feature of the device is that it has two available angles when opened, about 135 degrees and 180 degrees. At 180 degrees, the wobble is reduced, but now the screen is flat with the table and so is not as convenient to look at, though not in a crippling way.
In field testing, I find that I'm rarely in a situation where I need to use the keyboard while sitting at a desk anyway. In those situations, there's usually an actual computer in front of me. Rather, I use the phone's keyboard when out on the town, in which case it is held in the hands. The thumbs do get sore when typing in this manner, however.
KEYBOARD
--------
(+) Along with its predecessor the vx9800, the vx9900 offers the best keyboard available on brew cell phones, hands down. Most notably because it has a dedicated row for the numeric keys. On all other qwerty brew devices, this is not the case... with the exception of the LG ax490, although its keyboard is impractical for other reasons (do a Google image search on the device to see what I mean). The keys give a quiet, mechanical "click" when pressed, which is nice feedback.
(.) A number of reviews have complained about the space bar not being positioned at the bottom center of the keyboard. Personally, I've had no trouble adapting to the space bar positions.
(.) A number of reviews also criticize the positioning of the volume keys. When the clamshell is opened to its 135 degree position, it's difficult to wedge your finger behind the screen to reach the volume key. However, when I need to access those keys I simply pop the screen down to its 180 degree position, easily play with the keys to my heart's content, then pop it back to 135 degrees.
(+) Unlike its predecessor the vx9800, the vx9900 hinges its clamshell in such a way that the screen folds behind the keyboard. This makes access to the two soft keys easier.
(+) The symbols written on the keys light up, making it easy for night time use. Handy since I mainly use the keyboard when out on the town.
(.) Some of the keys are shaded grey rather than black to make them stand out as keys to use as an alternate directional pad (there's already a dedicated directional pad on the keyboard.) As a game developer, I can fill you in that Verizon REQUIRES games to accept these keys as alternate directional input for the vx9900. So you know it is supported. However, I don't find them any easier to use than the dedicated directional pad. The only advantage I can think of is it may be more natural if you are left handed.
(+) The vx9900 Orange has a special button in the upper left corner labeled "enV". For the silver version of the vx9900, this button is instead labeled "email". Though I have not tried the button on my company's silver vx9900, I believe I've read that it only can bring up the email app, just like it's labeled. For the enV Orange, however, you can assign this button to any of a number of shortcuts. Unfortunately, you can not assign it to be ANY shortcut you'd like (what I'd really enjoy would be to have it launch the web browser to a specific URL of my choice.) Instead you can only assign it to one of 10 options granted to you (Email (which launches the web browser), Text Message, Video Message, Mobile IM, Wireless Sync, V CAST Videos, Picture Message, V CAST Music, Pacman, and Tetris). Holding the button down launches your assigned shortcut. Tapping the button brings up a list of all the mentioned shortcuts, for you to scroll to and then launch.
(+) There's a dedicated speaker-phone button right on the keyboard.
PHONE CALLS
-----------
(+) I've yet to experience bad reception on my end.
(.) I do not know if I've had dropped calls due to my phone. There have been calls dropped, but the person I called blamed it on their phone.
(-) A complaint I've read about numerous times for the vx9900 is that it will sometimes launch a speed-dial when you are not using the phone. I've never used speed dialing on my previous phones, and after reading this complaint I've made a decision to not use it on this phone. Having not tried it, I can not comment on this. However this complaint has arisen enough times that it should be taken seriously if you are someone who enjoys speed-dial features. An alternate may be to use voice-command dialing instead.
As an aside, one of the reviews I read attributed this defect to the clamshell getting wedged in a carrying case or purse in such a way as to open its clamshell slightly, which would deactivate the key-guard for a few seconds, allowing accidental key presses during that time to launch their assigned speed-dial numbers. Out of curiosity I compared my enV Orange against my company's silver enV to see how far the clamshell needed to be opened in order for the key guard to be deactivated. My Orange needed to open by a smaller amount for this condition to be met.
CAMERA
------
(+) The phone LOOKS like a camera when you use it as one. It is held horizontally, and you tap your finger on the top right corner to snap a shot.
(+) It has a lens cover.
(-) If auto-focus is activated, which you will want to use, then photos are not taken instantaneously. You have to wait for the click.
(+) 2.0 megapixels.
(+) Decent frame rate for videos. Better than my vx8100. There have been times when it looked choppy, but often it looks fluid. Examples are below.
(+) If you have a memory card, videos recorded to the card are not given a short time limit.
(-) When examined closely, the photos look grainy. I suspect, but have not confirmed, that the camera does not have the full range of millions of colors we are used to on computers. To see what I mean, take a look at the example photo linked to below. Look closely at the pink of the toy in that photo, or the red bow on the toy. The toy is supposed to be smooth plastic, but it looks a bit grainy.
If a photo is shrunk down (and they are rather large), this can eliminate the graininess.
(-) Videos look very grainy.
SAMPLE PHOTOS and VIDEOS:
I've put onto the web some photos/videos of a friend and I dismantling an Etch-a-Sketch to see what was inside. With the exception of the drawings, which were scanned in, the images were taken with my vx9900 Orange.
http://www.rashid-clark.com/etch-a-sketch/
Here's a direct link to a sample photo, taken at the phone's highest resolution setting of 1600x1200:
http://www.rashid-clark.com/etch-a-sketch/victim.jpg
Here's a direct link to a sample video, taken at the phone's highest resolution of 320x240. I speak very quietly by nature, so don't worry video volumes are normally ok. Also, the phone does not natively save videos to .wmv format, I had to convert them:
http://www.rashid-clark.com/etch-a-sketch/stylus.wmv
BATTERY LIFE:
------------
(+) So far I'm happy with this. I've been recharging maybe every 4-10 days, depending on how the phone is used that week. I'm not a heavy user. Do make sure to follow the carrier's suggestion of fully charging your phone before using it for the first time, and to fully (or near-fully) use up the battery before the first few recharges.
MISC:
-----
(+) The device comes with a GPS Navigation app, complete with a voice giving you directions. I have not had a chance to use this, as I do not have a car. Sounds cool. However, Verizon does charge you out the nose to use it. You can buy a monthly subscription, or pay to use it for a day. Also, the car...Read more›

It's compatible with Verizon's V Cast Music Service, which enables you to purchase songs through your phone and download them via Verizon's fast EV-DO data network. Other Verizon service options include V Cast Video with clips from major networks, the VZ Navigator GPS turn-by-turn directions, BroadbandAccess Connect for using your phone as a modem to your laptop, and the Wireless Sync always-on email service.

(Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) If purchased from your phone, you'll receive two copies of the song: a Windows Media Audio Pro Plus format at 64Kbps stereo is sent to your phone, and a Windows Media Audio 9 format at 160Kbps stereo is sent to your account in the V CAST Music online store for downloading to your PC.

With BroadbandAccess Connect (subscription required), you can use your smartphone as a modem for your notebook when you connect the two using a USB cable--or open a Bluetooth connection--enabling you to access the Internet or your company intranet. The tethered modem capability is ideal when you're traveling and need to use your notebook to check email, access corporate networks, or download large files like presentations and reports. And with BroadbandAccess Connect, you won't have to buy an extra PC Card or other devices.
Verizon's Wireless Sync always-on email service (subscription required), you can stay connected and get the job done while away from the office--without a delay and in a secure environment. Email is delivered to your device in real time across the National Enhanced Services Rate & Coverage Area, and you get the ability to forward large attachments via email as well as access both your personal and corporate emails on one device. Wireless Sync offers strong security with AES encryption (Advanced Encryption Standard) technology so that unauthorized parties cannot access or alter application data transmitted over wireless networks.
Phone Features The front of the enV features a large, 65,000-color screen with 128 x 160 pixel resolution and a standard dialpad complete with a five-way control button. Flip open the horizontal clamshell, though, and you're presented with a crystal-clear, 240 x 320, 262,000-color landscape display and a full QWERTY keyboard. Dialing function buttons are also duplicated on the internal touchpad. A pair of stereo speakers reside on either side of the display, and a microSD card slot is provided on the side of the device for additional memory expansion. There's a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets, while the rear of the device houses the 2.0-megapixel camera. Lastly, an internal antenna keeps the enV sleek and compact, and the provided USB data port ensures convenient connectivity.
The enV's built-in address book can store up to 1000 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and e-mail addresses. The phone comes with built-in polyphonic ringtones plus a vibrating alert. More ringtones can be downloaded via Verizon's Get It Now service. A powerful speakerphone unit means you can easily talk hands-free, while Bluetooth allows you to use your favorite wireless headset.
While the enV is a great platform for watching V Cast video content, it can also capture video that can be shared with your friends and associates via video messaging. The video unit records in MPEG4 format and can capture clips up to 15 seconds in length. Of course, you can also use the camera to capture still pictures, too. In addition to megapixel resolution (1280 x 960), the camera features an LED flash, macro and night modes, a self-timer, and brightness and white balance controls.
The enV has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging, too, with support for sending and receiving text, picture, and video messages. There's also a complete e-mail client on the device for POP- and IMAP-based accounts. And of course, the QWERTY keyboard makes it a snap to type your messages.
The enV ships with a number of handy tools, including a calendar and a voice memo application. An alarm clock and calculator are also included. Use the enV's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth headset accessory or to connect to a computer or handheld device to exchange and synchronize data.
The enV supports V Cast 3-D games, as well as other 2-D-based games, which are available from Verizon's Get It Now service. You can also customize the phone's wallpapers and screen savers to give your phone a look that suits your style. And if music is your thing, with the built-in memory card slot and the enV's advanced MP3 player, you'll never be at a loss for something good to listen to (memory cards sold separately).
Other features include:
Bluetooth version 1.2 with the following profiles: A2DP (stereo music streaming), AVRC (remote control), HFP (hands-free car kits), HSP (communication headsets), BPP (basic printing profile for text, email), DUN (dial-up networking), FTP (file transfer), HID (support for mice or joysticks), OPP (object push for business cards, calendar items, and pictures)
Flight mode for listening to music and watching videos with the phone functionality turned off
13 unique ringtones; vibrate and silent modes
One-touch speakerphone
Speaker-independent voice-activated dialing
Voice memo recording
Music format support: MP3, WMA

Verizon Wireless Blitz Phone, Blue (Verizon Wireless) Review

Verizon Wireless Blitz Phone, Blue (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So we got on a 2 year contract, and I got the Blackberry 8130. Three weeks later, it gets washed in the washing machine. Friend gives me his Treo, which then stops working, and I'm out of a phone.
Head up to the Verizon store and they tell me that because I'm not due for a phone upgrade, the cheapest phone they could replace it with would be a no camera, no bluetooth, bare bones phone.. however let me tell you, it wasn't cheap.
Walking out disappointed, I look over at Target. Go in, buy the prepay-version Blitz for way less money, call them to do an ESN swap, *228, and presto: a fully-featured, awesome cell phone working fluidly with my contract.
I've owned a lot of smartphones in my day. Blackberry is usually my phone of choice, but I've had other various Windows Mobile and Palm devices. The Blitz has a refreshing and modern user interface, navigates seamlessly, and does not slow down or bug up. Call quality is solid, texting is great with the fully qwerty keyboard, and the added tools (calendar, most notably) have been really helpful for a guy used to more spendy phones!
Navigating around the mobile web has been the least impressive element of the Blitz, primarily because I'm used to 3G phones and browsers that render webpages better. However, Verizon charges half the cost for unlimited data on the Blitz vs the Blackberry, so the decrease there is made up for economically.
Other reviewers have complained about accidentally pushing buttons that lead them to data charges. I feel it important to note that all of the shortcut buttons are programmable. A few of the directional buttons lead to mobile web if touched because they are programmed this way by default. This can be easily changed in Settings. That said, this phone is best coupled with a data plan, anyway. There are too many cool features that would be going to waste without it!
I am very happy with my Blitz.

LG enV2 VX9100 Phone, Maroon (Verizon Wireless) Review

LG enV2 VX9100 Phone, Maroon (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My previous phone was a Motorola Nextel-style, a couple of years old, and I was fed up both with the phone and with Sprint (terrible coverage both at home and at work, and many places in between). Decided I needed something new, stylish, and capable.
I did not buy this from Amazon as I took advantage of a discount through my employer, but after a week now I am thrilled with the coverage and with the phone. Coverage area is Charlotte, NC/Fort Mill, SC.
Love the phone! Sleek, small but not too tiny and with a very solid feel to it, esp. when opening the phone up. Like the 2-stage opening, up to 180 degrees. Making calls is easy, speakerphone is clear as is all-round call quality. Camera does pretty well for what it is. Video is a little weak, but this is a phone, after all. VZ Navigator works well, keyboard is great for mobile emailing. I have the maroon color and have had several compliments on this.
In short, this is a great little phone. I am neither a heavy texter nor a techie, but am finding myself easily enjoying the various abilities of this little phone. Very impressed with the ENV2 and would certainly recommend it!

You can also customize the phone's wallpapers and screen savers to give your phone a look that suits your style.

Kyocera X-tc Prepaid Phone (Virgin Mobile) Review

Kyocera X-tc Prepaid Phone (Virgin Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have to say, after owning the Wildcard for 1 1/2 years(and oh boy, did I suffer), I am thoroughly impressed by the XTC.
The XTC has a crisp, large screen. The resolution is marvelous, it takes very nice pictures in medium to bright light, and the fonts, program design is very attractive. You can set it to three different themes- the black/red Virgin Mobile color combo, white, or black. I use the black and it looks so amazing.
The keyboard takes some getting used to, but after inputting all of my contacts from previous Wildcard phone, I am loving the keyboard layout. I love how the "back" key is at the right bottom corner. The keys are decent sized, easy to press, and the keys are really responsive. Plus the design looks very elegant and functional.
The sound quality is also MUCH better than the Wildcard. In fact, I'd like to say that I am absolutely pleased with the earpiece sound quality and volume, and the speakerphone volume and sound clarity. I loaded a couple hundred songs onto the micro SD card, which I popped into the XTC, and playing back the music was actually very clear and pleasant, even when I playback heavy rock songs.
Overall I find the XTC to be very functional, slim, well-designed, and my only fears now are my fingerprints smearing the glossy screen or accidentally dropping the phone because I've been using the phone so often.

Helio Ocean Review

Helio Ocean
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this phone for two years now! It has been a pretty solid device. Call quality is very decent and I can count on one hand the amount of times I've experienced a dropped call. I love the fact that I can be logged into AIM and Yahoo IM at the same time all while receiving SMS and email from yahoo, gmail, and hotmail. The inbox is great and I love how they put it all in one place. The music player is fine and it plays MP3's, WMA's and AAC files. It doesn't have a standard 3.5mm earphone jack. It has an adapter so that you can plug in your earphones. The SD Card slot is conveniently located so I can swap out in a pinch. (None of that battery cover opening crap) Unfortunately, this thing eats the battery like a kid eats candy. You'll have to charge it every day. The phone is also a bit big so it won't fit in your pocket very well. But it's solid though. I've dropped it a few times and it's taken some hard spills. The slider still works great. The phone is very durable. The screen looks very good and can be very bright if you want it to be. Texting is nice, but now I've had a problem with it missing some of my keypresses lately. It wasn't like this initially and it doesn't happen unless I am texting fast. I'm guessing it's because my phone is a bit old now. This problem started a few months ago. The internet is pretty quick on it and I've hardly ever been without 3G reception. Youtube videos load really quick. All in all, this has been a great phone that has served me well. If you are looking for something cheap, reliable, and full of features, I can't suggest a better phone.
I'll be honest, I really want a new phone now. I was thinking about getting an iPhone but I am leary of the call quality issues in comparison. So I'll stick with this for now until iPhone comes out for Verizon. :)

Samsung B3310 Unlocked Cell Phone with 2 MP Camera - International Version with No Warranty (Titan Gray) Review

Samsung B3310 Unlocked Cell Phone with 2 MP Camera - International Version with No Warranty (Titan Gray)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this phone. It's the best phone I've ever had. The keyboard is just the right size and everything works great. I'll try and rate things individually.
Messaging(9/10)- Messaging is extremely simple on this phone. There is no difficulty figuring out what is what. You will have to play around with it a bit to get accustomed to it however. You can also keep a record of your conversations from person to person, so there is no need to go back and forth to each message to see what you wrote.
PS: They keys are considerably small. If you have giant fingers or even marginally large ones, texting may be a little difficult as you may end up pressing more than one button at a time.
Music(9/10): The music player is wonderful. It will display the CD cover or whatever picture you have set for each song. There is a shuffle feature, however, I took a point off because the shuffle is so random, sometimes you may come across the same songs, and never seem to get around to the others. The sound is very clear and concise. No static. The headphones they give you with it will slip out of your ears a lot. So I recommend purchasing an adapter that goes to 3.5mm headphones that way you can put in your own.
Some of the features include:
-You own customizable playlists
-sorting by artists, genre, recently played, most played, last played
-Repeat/shuffle
-Shortcuts
-background playing
-sound effects(Wide, Dynamic, surround, pop, rock, etc.)
-Music auto off
NOTE: Music can be set as a ringtone
Radio(9/10) -The radio is excellent! As far as reception, its the same as any portable device, so I can't comment on that but as far as shortcuts, station setting, etc, its amazing.
Memory(9/10)- The largest memory card you can purchase for the phone is 8GB, which is good enough for me. I can put lots of music and videos without worrying about space. Internal memory is 34MB, which isn't so bad
Camera/Video(8/10)- The camera is a 2MP camera and it's not bad. It's pretty much what you would expect from a 2MP camera phone. The features, such as zoom/effects/night mode/timer/viewfinder, etc are all very good. More than most phones I would say. The video player works great. Dont expect Iphone quality but it does what I need it to do for a quick video. And sound pick-up is great.
Organizer(10/10)-The organizer is great. Here is a list of the organizer features:
-Calender(lists wk number on the side as a bonus)[Also lists events you have missed]
-MEMO-A very simple tool that you can simply use to write something down for later use. I use it to write down songs I want to download. Very useful
-TASK- This is similar to memo except that this is better used for events and remembrances that you can set an alarm to
-WORLD CLOCK-Useful for seeing time around the world(I never use it)
-CALCULATOR-A very basic and simple calculator(not scientific) that useful for just taking a quick mathematical process
-CONVERTER-This is a wonderful tool for doing conversions and it is very easy to use. You can convert Length, Weight, Volume, Area, and Temperature
Internet(?)- This is the biggest flaw, not because I think the internet sucks or anything. Frankly, I haven't even used the internet for the phone. I have T-mobile and previously, I paid $10 a month for internet. I assumed it would be the same. but when I got the phone, it said i couldn't use the internet. I looked through the plans and the cheapest one was $30 a month! YIKES! Maybe not for you, but for me, that is VERY expensive for a mobile internet. But that may be because it's unlocked. It may be different for you. I have no idea. So I'm disappointed about that. I was hoping for wi-fi to make up for it. But this phone has no wi-fi. But I already knew that when I bought it so it didn't bother me too much. Overall: An excellent phone that I would highly recommend. It has a unique look. I love the numbers on the side. It's not bothering in the slightest. However, if you know you have very large fingers, the keyboard may not be the best for you.
Ok I tried to cover as much information as I could think of at the moment. If there is any other sections or info you want, let me know. It comes with Sudoku game as well. Which is a great way to relax. LOVE that. And comes with a dictionary
NOTE: I did not buy from here. I bought on EBAY because it was a few dollars cheaper. But I made the ratings based on the phone itself
