LG 410G Flip Phone (TracFone) Review

LG 410G Flip Phone (TracFone)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like many people out there, it seems, I was looking for a successor to one of TracFone's most common phones, the monochrome Nokia 1100. TracFone's lineup has diversified somewhat over the last few years, with phones that range from the minimal Motorola W260g Prepaid Phone (Tracfone) to the robust Samsung T301G Prepaid Phone (Tracfone).
The LG 410 is closer to the lower end of TracFones than the higher end. There is no Bluetooth, no camera, only one built-in game, and no apparent way to add any more. TracFone's data service is 2G, runs about as fast as yesteryears 56K modem, and is limited to a few TracFone sites -- no web surfing here. Of course, people don't buy TracFones for exotic features; there are plenty of other cell companies that offer smartphones and broadband data plans. People instead buy TracFones because they are one of the only cell phone plans available for under ten dollars a month. TracFone is a dirt cheap option for people who only need cell phones once in a while, and for those looking for a basic phone to get the job done the LG 410 is a solid, affordable option.
Owners of older TracFones will be pleased to know that this is certainly a less embarassing phone to carry around than some of TracFone's older models. It's compact, sleek, and has a nice, bright color screen. All the basics for making phone calls, like address books and speakerphone capabilities are here. Calls sound good and the phone has good range. Just as importantly for infrequent TracFone users, the phone holds a charge for a long time. One small but appreciated feature is the phone's external display, which shows time, battery charge, and signal strength when the phone is in its clamshell position. The only serious nitpick I saw specific to this phone was the rather flat button surface, which makes this a less-than-ideal choice for texting. Given the clamshell design, though, this may be unavoidable.
Overall, this is a pretty solid phone, especially for the price, which is about fifteen bucks at the time of this review. Some retailers currently have a bundle for that same price that also throws in a car charger, a hands-free microphone and ear bud, and double minutes for life. Even without the bundle, current TracFone users who transfer their minutes to this phone will get an extra two months to their service, which essentially makes this phone a free upgrade. If you're an occasional cell phone user who just wants a reliable phone to make calls every once in awhile -- and who doesn't care about Bluetooth or other bells and whistles -- this is a great option.

Motorola RAZR2 Mahogany Red V9 GSM unlocked quad-band HSDPA flip phone Review

Motorola RAZR2 Mahogany Red V9 GSM unlocked quad-band HSDPA flip phone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this phone a year ago because my previous phone of 3 years broke in half. The prior phone, a Nokia, had to be constantly flipped open to talk to contacts, so assuredly age was the factor in its breaking if it lasted that long.
As for the Motorazr2 V9, the features are great for a flip phone - the camera is decent, the call quality is superb, and there is plenty of accessibility for applications. The interface is pretty organized and the learning curve is simple; the phone is good for people who want to get used to current technology with a simpler entity.
However, the phone was not very durable, and despite that I used my Bluetooth most of the time to talk to my contacts, this reinforces my point. Unfortunately, after one year of owning this piece of technology, the sides of the phone cracked and broke, causing the screen and keys lose their unity, though I still hear sound when I press the dial keys. Because this phone broke quicker than the former and is prompting me to spend more money so soon to get another one, despite the good points I made about it, I will only give it one star.

Nokia Intrigue 7205 Phone, Black/Pink (Verizon Wireless) Review

Nokia Intrigue 7205 Phone, Black/Pink (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was really excited to get this phone because a) it looked cool; b) it had the hi-tech display features on the outside of the hard shell; and c) it was green.
Unfortunately, the sound on the phone is horrible - very tinny on both speakerphone and regular listening mode. The menu system is difficult to use and always defaults back to the home screen, so you have to click through multiple times to get to anyplace. The menu items are not very clear to understand, and do not do what they imply. I have used cell phones from different vendors before, including Verizon many years ago, and did not have these difficulties!!
I wish I could say better things but I cannot. The service fee is also overpriced compared to Tmobile, from whom I just switched. I had to work OT and did not get a chance to use my phone before the return period expired.
Hopefully my review will decide you!! I should have gone with one of their higher-end phones, or at least tried them out at the store.
Also, two minor but annoying items. The first one is the phone has a MINI-mini USB charger instead of the standard mini-USB. In other words I need to buy all new chargers!
The second one is the cover to the super small USB will be easy to tear off - it will be the first thing that gets broken on this phone!
Do not get this phone - if you really want Verizon, go to the store and make them let you listen & play with it!

LG Shine CU720 - Cellular phone - 3G - WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM - slider - red Review

LG Shine CU720 - Cellular phone - 3G - WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM - slider - red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
- Good sound quality.
- Good reception.
- It is a nice sleek looking phone. Really handsome with simple lines and shape. Has a nice feel on your palm. I like the color of my wife's "Shine" even better which is deep red. Mine is silver.
- MicroSD for additional memory.
- Capable to record short videos
- Long battery life (I tested the phone for a week without using the MP3 player and video. It lasted longer than my older phone which has a smaller screen). If you use the phone as an mp3 player, then that is another story.
- Bluetooth, games, calculator, notepad...
Cons:
- The joystick is not quite a joy to use.
- The back of the phone is too scratch prone.
- Keypad has grooves to to help with identifying the keys by touch but it is not as intuitive as a regular keypad. It is difficult for texting.
- Interface is a bit annoying. Got a little learning curve to get used to.
- Heavier than most phones.
Speaker phone is usable but does not sound very exciting. I like the easy slide that has a snap feel of the front cover to expose the keypad. It feels pretty solid.
The camera is OK. Very slow lens, but I am not really expecting much because most cell phones have extremely small lenses to gather enough light. 2 megs of resolution. Surprisingly it is equipped with a flash albeit it is tiny winy and almost next to useless. I am happy that It is big enough leap from my previous phone.

I would like to have the option of reviewing this product but unfortunately the vendor (Kusho) you purchase the product from has been giving me the run around.
1. The BLACK phone I wanted to purchase, I am told had some quality issues and that they would give it to me in pink, I am a male. They gave me an option to get another phone but the phones were not of the same quality.
2. They sent me an e-mail which I replied to and said OK, because my phone died and I needed one right away. After waiting a week I called them back and they said I never replied. So the person at Kusho had to look into it. And the day's go by.

If you are a camera lover like I am and you love gadgets then you will love this phone!!! It is a great cell phone but an even better camera. It takes great pictures and has excellent special effects. I can only find one thing wrong with this phone. The calendar has a little software glitch where when you put in a reminder it will lose it or it will disappear. Other than that this is the niftiest phone I have ever had and I get lots of comments on it when I flip the screen over and turn it into a really neat camera !!!!!!

The V300 is a tough act to follow, but Motorola has a winner on their hands with their V300 successor, the V555. With welcome additions like Bluetooth, quad-band GSM and high-speed EDGE data capability, and a VGA camera with video capture, the V555 packs a powerful new punch.
Design The V555 features a sleek clamshell design with a large, high-resolution 176 x 220 pixel, 65,000 color screen. The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary 96 x 32 monochrome display that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. A USB-capable data port is housed on the unit's top edge, and there's a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets.
Calling Features The V555 supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. You can also assign pictures and ringers to your most common callers. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone, and there's even an included application, MotoMixer, that enables you to mix your own ringtones.
Speed dialing, which allows you to call pre-programmed numbers with one button is built in, as is a vibrating alert. A speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Meanwhile, voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. The V555's phone book can hold up to 1000 contacts; if you have that many friends and colleagues, more power to ya'! Lastly, the phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible.
Messaging, Internet and Tools The V555 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging and Internet connectivity. The phone features support for AOL Instant Messenger (carrier messaging charges may apply), and there's also a built-in web browser for wireless downloads and mobile web browsing.
The V555 comes with a built-in email client (with support for POP3, SMTP and IMAP4 email standards), and traditional text messaging, as well as video, picture and sound messaging are also supported. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the V555 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar and an alarm clock. You can also use the phone's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or connect to a computer or hand-held device to exchange and synchronize data. The phone supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, which can be used with Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools PC application to manage and synchronize contacts, calendar and other data with your PC.
Imaging and EntertainmentWith 5 MB of internal memory storage, the V555 shines in the entertainment department. The phone's VGA (640 x 480) camera features a 4x digital zoom, image quality options, and an auto-timer so you can be in your pictures, too. Capture stills and then send them to your friends via MMS messaging or email, or to your PC via USB or Bluetooth. The V555 adds video capability, too, meaning you can capture short video clips and, just like photos, share them how you see fit. The phone also supports custom graphics for wallpapers so you can dress up the phone to suit your fancy.
If you're into mobile gaming, the V555 has you covered. The phone ships with a full version of Pinball, as well as trial versions of Bejeweled and NFL 2005.
Vital StatisticsThe Motorola V555 weighs 4.3 ounces and measures 3.5 x 1.9 x 1 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 425 minutes of digital talk time, and up to 235 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

Nokia 6030 Unlocked Dual Band Phone (Silver) Review

Nokia 6030 Unlocked Dual Band Phone (Silver)
Average Reviews:

I purchased this phone as a "back up" in the event my main phone became inoperable (which it did) but I digress. This phone is great for the basics only. Texting, speakerphone and of course voice. The call quality is o.k. speakerphone functions fairly well, texting can be a hassle, having to search out the letters below the numeric value on the keys (I'm used to a qwerty key board) I agree with the previous review, you get what you pay for.

Nokia 3710 Unlocked Phone with 3.2 MP Camera and GPS--U.S. Version with Warranty (Pink)
Average Reviews:

At a crossroads, I had to decide between upgrading to a "smart" phone, or stick with "quick-messaging" phone. I chose to drop out of the smart phone race with eyes glued to a big screen all day, or holding a laptop next to my ear to make a call, or trying to fit a bulky tablet in pants pocket which would end up with a geeky hip holster. Moreover, I had enough with the headaches from irridiating the brain with tablet phones that unsuitably place the antenna next to the receiver.
This phone rekindles the simple joy of conversation, and is a pleasure to use. The size is perfect, call quality is almost as good as a land line, and with the antenna in the phone's base far away from the head, no more headaches! Text messaging is brisk when you grow accustomed to T9, and the picture quality is better than any phone I've had. If your main purpose in a phone is to communicate with people, this is the best.

Not to mention the swivel camera allowing me to take pix with my friends not just of them!! No matter where you go the V205 is guaranteed to be the most stylish and popular cell at the party. Samsung a237 Phone, Blue (AT&T) Review

Samsung a237 Phone, Blue (ATandT)
Average Reviews:

Samsung A237 Phone, Blue (AT&T)
Just got this one for my technophobic husband who just wants a phone to get and receive calls easily. It's loaded with plenty of bells and whistles (camera, music player, etc. etc.) he'll never use, but he loved it right out of the box. A few years ago he had a similar model, but wasn't put off by this phone's newer, sleaker view on the screen.
The numbers and letters on the buttons are easy for him to see without his readers, even in the dark, so he doesn't have any trouble hitting the right buttons the first time he tries, and he's got BIG fingers.
It's a great "starter phone" and I'd highly recommend the Samsung A237 for anyone who wants a simple, functional, rugged, but good-looking phone. All the extras are there if you want them but they don't get in the way of using it for POTS (plain-old-telephone-service).
I got myself the new Samsung Eternity, which I LOVE and haven't even looked at the DVD of instructions that came with it yet, but then I'm enough of a technogeek to be dangerous.

Audiovox 8915 Snapper Prepaid Phone (Virgin Mobile) Review

Audiovox 8915 Snapper Prepaid Phone (Virgin Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For anyone considering the purchase of this (or another) Virgin Mobile phone, do not be influenced by the identical negative reviews posted for several Virgin Mobile phones by someone calling himself "lookout guy." I cannot comment on the month to month plans, having only been a pay-as-you-go by-the-minute guy since I got my Virgin Mobile phone over two years ago. I can tell you that lookout guy is totally WRONG in terms of any "hidden fee" in terms of the by-the-minute service offered by Virgin Mobile. There is NO $1.50/day fee; if there was, no one would choose this option because it would end up costing more than a monthly plan. (Duh.) I can confirm that you only pay for the minutes you use. If you don't use your phone for days (even weeks) at a time, you pay nothing. The ONLY charge for having access to a Virgin Mobile phone on the by-the-minute plan is the minimum top-up charge (supposedly $20 every three months but after you become a customer you can get it down to $15 every three months if you choose auto top-up with a credit card). So if you NEVER use your phone, that's what it costs. Of course, you would simply end up accruing money in your account to be debited when you do finally use your phone. As long as you use your phone minimally (for emergencies and for very brief, occasional conversations only), you'll pay only $5-$6.66/month. I oughta know -- my balance keeps growing and growing because I rarely use my phone; if I were being charged a $1.50/day "access charge" I would know it.
Only you can decide if a pay-as-you-go plan such as this is suitable for you, but here's the quick math: if you know you will use your phone at least five minutes per day almost every day, then this plan isn't for you as it would cost you $37.50/month for only 150 minutes of use based on 25 cents/minute. If, like me, you are likely to have many days where you don't use the phone at all and other days where you use only a few minutes (with rare days that you use over 10 minutes), then this plan will be a bargain. (I used to be a Sprint PCS customer and ended up paying, on average, $1/minute for my calls because of my minimal phone use -- in other words, over four times as much as my Virgin Mobile minutes cost at their highest rate.)
Edit on 5/12/06:
Now on to this phone, which I just purchased earlier this week: I definitely like this upgrade to my K7 Rave phone. The color screen is nice and the entire phone looks sharp. Swapping phones was easy, though I didn't get the text message from Virgin indicating that my new phone was active as the customer service rep indicated. Instead I just tried the phone out after a few hours and discovered that it had, in fact, been activated.
Reception seems pretty much the same as my other Virgin Mobile phone (good but not excellent).
I'm enjoying the Virgin Mobile X-Tras and have downloaded a few files for wallpapers/screensavers as well as some ringtones from my favorite Comedy Central shows. These downloads aren't cheap (10 cents per day just to access Virgin X-Tras and then typically $2-$3 per item downloaded), but I had so much money built up in my account that I figured I could splurge for a little while.
