This is a nice phone. It does anything and everything you could imagine a cell phone could do...and then some. As an avid user of a Treo (Palm) for years, I was ready for a new handset, and my new job required a Windows Mobile platform. After quite a bit of study, I made the switch to the HTC TyTN II...with no regrets thus far.
The description will give more detail than I could ever give, so suffice it let me highlight a few things:
1> Is a great PHONE. So many of these PDA phones forget what they are first and foremost. While I really liked the form and function of the Palm OS on my Treo, it left a lot to be desired in it's ability to catch and hold a signal. This TyTN II does that really well. Perhaps it's a bit of a carrier issue too, but I've had very few dropped calls in the 2 weeks I've had it.
2> The internal GPS works really well. If you're all about reducing the number of "things" that you carry with you, you've now got a very capable GPS strapped to your belt. Is it as feature rich as a stand-alone GPS? Probably not, but I downloaded the TomTom 6 maps of the US and Canada and it works great.
3> It has a cool feature that lets you take a photo of a business card, and then export that to your contact list with fields populated. Kinda cool and works pretty well.
I recommend this phone highly. It's a few bucks, but if you rely on your phone as a business tool like I do, it's worth the money.

(More customer reviews)i don't suggest it for you. the benefit is the operating system but the hardware is not good. the speaker is not so clear, i've found 2 batteries one of them is dead and the other have to be charged before the end of the day. no place for the pen in the phone. The huge problem is that if you are using one sim and someone calls you on the other it is unreachable .
the two advantages are the android system and it could be charged with nokia or samsung charger.

(More customer reviews)In sum: If you want coverage independent navigation or T-Mobile 3G, you may consider this phone, but you must live with Windows Mobile and the most non-standard headphone jack imaginable. Pros:
1. Offers T-Mobile 3G on my grandfathered plan, though the coverage is spotty.
2. Nice screen--480x800. Feels good in hand. Nice form factor.
3. Decent sound in speakers after load Pocket Player. Sounds poor with Windows Mobile player.
4. Includes Opera 9.5 browser.
5. Sbp interface included. Quite glossy and graphical interface overlay. But takes work to set up and is flakey at times.
6. Some nice third party software can improve matters, such as Pocket Player, which has better sound and a resume function for audio books. Kinoma also is good and includes Audible integration.
7. The Pharos navigation software has ugly and dated graphics but does include turn by turn directions, and is not dependent on the wireless connection. A 2 gb navigation card in included, but this can be transferred to a card with more more memory. The gps was not as sensitive as advertised, but not too bad--it did pick up a signal in my tree lined street.
8. Is said to be able to be used as a modem. Haven't tried this yet.
Cons:
1. The most non-standard USB headphone jack I could imagine. I thought, at least, I could use HTC or Motorola Razr headphones or jacks. No. HTC jacks will not fit in the phone, and the Motorola USB jacks yield no sound. This is quite an outrage.
2. A close second for bad--Windows Mobile. The level of frustration which this OS presents is incredible at this stage in mobile development. It takes days to try to set up the phone to work in some reasonable way. The OS is slow and the stock programs are poor. The browser is bad--Opera is much better. The Media Player is horrible--the sound, compability and functionality. It will hardly play any videos. The freeze ups are common--many times per day with constant use.
3. A close third for terrible--the keyboard implementation. The biggest problem--if you touch the on-screen keyboard even a millisecond too long, you get multiple character entries. After using the iPhone, this is very annoying. Also, although it includes a nice sbp keyboard, it pops up inconsistently.
4. The touch screen functionality is poor; it is either too sensitive (selecting what you don't want) or not sensitive enough.
5. The accelerometer is flakey, being delayed in switching between landscape and portrait or flashing back and forth.
6. The jury is still out, but battery life seems very poor.
7. Many programs don't work--Mobipocket for books (a shame with the big screen); the divx player; and many others I tried to load.

(More customer reviews)I have a love/hate relationship with my Omnia HD. I've owned it now since mid-July and have on numerous occasions thought, "this is it... I'm done with this phone... I'm going back to X." I still using the Omnia HD, though. In the end, the phone is pretty impressive. The capacitive OLED screen is a stunner, with rich contrast and fantastic detail, and the overall fit and finish of the phone is second to none. Seriously, this is one solid smart-phone. Every line feels tight, every angle feels put together just perfect. We can talk about the camera at length, but I've honestly not been too blown away by it. It takes great pictures, it takes horrible pictures, sometimes right in succession of each other. Low light is abysmal, and it has a tendency to flare and ghost purples under incandescent lighting. Outdoors, however, even in twilight, I've captured amazingly great shots that you'd be hard pressed to say came from a phone. The HD video recording doesn't work at all. Sure, it records 720p, but it frame drops way too much, and even at its best is under 24 FPS on average. You get a really jerky-stutter feel to 720p recordings. Dropping it down to either of the lower settings, however, produce great videos. If you want this to do HD video recording, you'll be disappointed, though. As is, it's a nice gimmick to show your friends, as long as you don't move the camera too much.
The ARM A8 @ 600MHz is the same CPU you'll find in all of the latest and greatest devices (from the iPhone 3G S to the Palm Pre and the Nokia N900) and it shows why. So very responsive, so very quick... at times. Herein lies the one true fault of the Omnia HD. Samsung really doesn't have the programming prowess that Nokia does on the Symbian platform. This was true with the INNOV8 and becomes doubly true on the S60v5 platform. With so much grunt under the hood, you would expect the i8910 to fly through your day to day tasks, but I find the OS only marginally better than my old N97 in many situations. The software is a mix-match of Symbian and Samsung developed applications. The music player is an in house job, and has a couple quirks. I appreciate they've tried to modernize it with visualizations and 5.1 sound output (that now works through the internal speakers and sounds pretty good), but it has an annoying stutter every time you start an internet connection. If you're listening to music and do anything over the net, you'll get a hiccup in your music playback. For a machine with this much power to be doing that (especially since it has a dedicated CPU just for telephony actions) is just ridiculous. My Nokia 9500, on its archaic hardware didn't even do that.
Other issues like a video player that has to re-sync its library every time you go into the application. A gallery that does not cache image thumbnails and rebuilds every time (usually taking several seconds or more depending on how many shots you have in there) and overall poor email integration (with none of the self configuration scripts that Nokia phones have) give you a sort of barely passable feeling to the overall software on the phone. Everything works, in some facility or another, but none of it feels as good as it should be... or as good as this phone looks or should perform. There is the main issue. As much as I love how powerful and how well built the Samsung is, I can't help but miss my E71 or Nokia 5800 when it comes to just having everything work. Sure, the Nokia devices are underpowered... but at least they get every drop out of the hardware possible. The i8910 feels like it is just spinning its wheels and really not taking advantage of the true grunt the A8 can deliver. It's a good phone... I'm using it right now... Every time I pull the sim card out within a week or so it gets put back in, but... I have to be honest, as soon as something better comes along in the hardware department, I'm jumping ship.

HTC FUZE Smartphone (AT&T) - Refurbished Review

(More customer reviews)After comparing features on quite a few different phones, I thought the HTC Fuze would be the perfect replacement for my aging, but still quite functional HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125).
This phone has GPS, Windows Mobile 6.1, a decent camera, a nice screen resolution, a usable slide-out keyboard. In short, it has everything I was looking for in a smartphone.
Once I got it home, I found three significant issues:
1) Non-Standard USB Data/charging jack
Being someone who works with computer hardware quite a bit, I am very averse to "trying to fit a square peg in a round hole". When I went to start charging the phone, I noticed that the jack on the phone was not a standard Mini-USB, though it looked close. I looked in the box and found a small breakout adapter (for headphones) and it also had a standard Mini-USB connector on it, so my assumption was that I needed to have this adapter present to plug in for syncing and/or charging.
It turns out that the jack on the bottom of the phone was meant to accept standard Mini-USB as well as the custom adapter.
So, this isn't a showstopper, but I thought folks might want to know.
2) Way too much NON-REMOVABLE demo-ware Bloat (AT&T)
I'm used to getting phones with a few "demoware" titles put on by the provider. My normal approach to these is "give em a whirl, if they're a must-have, buy em, if not uninstall them never to be heard from again"
I was happy to see a large selection of potentially very interesting titles. However, I very quickly found that I didn't really like most of them. THEN I tried uninstalling. Only one of the pre-installed demoware pieces was available in the uninstall section.
I started researching... Just go ahead and try googling for "HTC Fuze Bloat"
Yes, there is a way to work around this, but it took me about four tries to get the timing right. Essentially you have to hard reset the phone and then catch it with a soft reset just before the AT&T setup stuff starts loading.
It's ugly, and if you ever have to hard reset, you get all the garbage back. NOBODY's come up with a way to completely remove the AT&T bloat without making a custom ROM
3) Noticeably low phone volume.
I bonded my Plantronics earpiece to the phone and made a call to a friend. I can't believe how many times I had to ask her to speak up or repeat herself. She was on her standard phone at home ... I know what volume level to expect from her. I thought maybe the phone or my earpiece were turned down... NOPE. I ensured that they were both at maximum. The volume was unacceptably low through the built-in earpiece as well.
It MAY be that there is an Automatic Gain Control (AGC) that is causing the audio to be turned down (It seemed to fade in and out even with fairly decent signal strength). I dunno, this was the straw that broke the Camel's back.
Ok, I've panned it. What's good about the phone?
1) Nice built in camera
Takes a MUCH better picture in available light indoors that the Cingular 8125
2) Nice style.
If you're an iPhone person, you'd almost feel at home with this. The styling is good, the TouchFlo interface seems very modern (though I didn't play with it enough to really decide if I loved or hated it)
3) Seems well built
This may be a small phone, but it's got some weight to it that makes it feel solid and substantial
4) ROM Update Available
HTC's official web site has a ROM Update available which is supposed to fix some performance issues. I haven't installed it because I'm taking my phone back, but this may be worth looking into if you just have to have this phone.
In conclusion, This phones features and specs say that it has it all, but I found myself somewhat disappointed. I took it back to the provider and asked that we try another unit to make sure that the volume issue was not just due to a bad unit. It was the same (low-ish normal volume with WAY over-reactive Auto Gain Control causing it to be difficult to hear the other party.
This review has been edited, but I can't appear to change the rating, so take it as read that I'd currently give it three stars instead of two. I'm about to try applying a rom update provided by HTC on their main site (specific to the AT&T version of this phone). I will update with further info if I come across anything interesting.
~~UPDATE~~
After the ROM update, my issues with the Auto Gain Control making conversations difficult to hear appears to have gone away.
I can comfortably upgrade this phone to 3.5 stars, but of course, I can't because I can't change my rating.

(More customer reviews)I've been waiting for the Tour since its early rumor days. I am already an addicted Blackberry user for my job. One thing I notice in general with cell phone reviews, is there is very little time spent commenting on the core function of a cell phone, that being a "Phone." I made my first call on the Tour and the recipient kept asking me to repeat myself. I didn't think anything of it. I made another call to a friend who said "Are you talking with a sock in your mouth?" Okay now I'm worried. I'm calling from the same chair where the day before I was using my old Motorola E815 and it was crystal clear. Finally I leave myself a voice mail. Literally I could not make out the words I said. Interestingly, the sound that I hear on my end is great so from my perception the call quality is excellent. I figured this has to be defective so I returned it for a replacement. It was exactly the same. I am also concerned that the replacement revealed inconsistent quality in the build of the phone. The battery door had a minor but detectable "jiggle" to it that conveys cheapness. The track ball on the second one seemed loose as if it were barely touching the rollers. A quick Google on the Tour Battery door revealed the loose battery door is a common complaint. In the end, I had to give up the Tour since nobody could hear me. One more thing because I know somebody is thinking this...no, my finger was not covering the microphone hole. I have a Curve 8330 I use every day for work, it is crystal clear.

(More customer reviews)I love this phone. However, I live in Sweden so beware that some features may not be exactly the same. UPDATE: I have now had this phone for about a month and have these comments (see UPDATE notes).
First, this is a great phone. Hands down...and I live in Sweden where there are more cellphones per capita than anywhere else. As for the other reviewer...I don't know why someone complains about the virtual keyboard and no physical keypad. Buy a phone with a keyboard, silly, if you don't like tapping the screen. I for one used to have a Nokia E61 with a real keyboard. Great. But, I really like this onscreen keyboard. It's fast, easy to use, and even though it suggests words for you (and gets smarter with time) you can suggest the word you want from four suggestions (iPhone has only two). This phone is obviously trying to get you to shy away from the iPhone...and you should. It's that good.
Pros:
Flexibility - I can configure the homescreens any way I want. UPDATE: This is just great. Really. I can change the phone as I learn what I need and don't need. Lot's of hype in the cellphone world, but few useful tools. This really helps me stay connected and it is easy and quick to make a direct call, take a picture, check my google map position, send an email, etc.
Fast - this phone is really fast and does multitasking very well. I can surf the web while listening to a tune while using the GPS...and it doesn't bog down! UPDATE: Yep, this really works. Just went hiking in the woods of Sweden...where the logging road ends. Did perfectly. Used my GPS while I listened to my radiostation on LastFM through the phone...in the woods! The iPhone bogs down.
Form - it's fits really nicely in my pocket. Not too heavy, not too big. UPDATE: The screen doesn't scratch badly at all, and if you want additional scratch protection go to [...].
Battery - stellar battery life. UPDATE: Go easy on the app downloads from the Market/app store. Some apps drain the battery. Again, the iPhone drains your battery badly.
Market - ok, so it's not the Apple store, but it has a lot of useful programs. UPDATE: I have a great email program (K-9), push SMS (SMS popup), instant access to wifi/GPS/bluetooth etc (Useful switches).
Google syncing - works perfectly to sync my web calender with my phone with my sidebar at home. UPDATE: Really love this one. Type in a new calender event and your google calender and your google toolbar are updated within the minute. Sweet.
Cons:
Really, so far I haven't found any...except to figure out how to get the same timezone on all three calenders...UPDATE: I did.
UPDATE: Actually, the calender is subpar...so far until the Market provides a new one. You really can't adjust it very well. I would like different colors for different events; start the week on a Monday; Week number.
However, buy this phone and you won't be disappointed!

(More customer reviews)I choose this Samsung phone based on another model I bought about a year ago and because this one has the Android OS. I found the phone to be what I expected. It is easy to use, works fine with my carrier and I can download apps from Google Android Market. Samsung rates this model as an entry level smartphone.
I want to develop some simple Android apps and use them in my phone. I already did some tests and it works.
The only reason I am not giving five stars is because the phone came with six apps from a developer in Portugal that I don't want but can't remove from the phone.
I would recommend this phone to those who want a small device with a little intelligence and not so difficult to understand and use.

(More customer reviews)I own this phone since the middle of December, and couldn't imagine owning another phone. I have to have a hardware keyboard or the phone is useless to me as I do a lot more than just talk on my phone. The keyboard on this thing i second to none, HTC really knows how to make a great phone keyboard. Within 2Hrs of owning it, I was back at my house and found on XDA, simple to follow instructions which unlocked, rooted (perm) and installed a custom ROM (Virtuous - Sense based). I use this thing heavily, wifi, tons of sms/email, bluetooth (Jabra BT3030 + NuForce NE-700X earbuds) so I can have awesome music quality while working. Installed Zagg Invisible Shield (full body) as soon as I got it.
This Z Hinge issue everyone is making such a big deal out of is not an issue at all. You really have to be TRYING to make it open on it's own, for it to open on it's own. I carry my phone in my pocket most the time. I mean seriously who carries their phone "while holding only the edges of the back?" That's right, NO ONE! You would be dropping your phone every 2 seconds if you held it like that... I've even dropped this thing a few times, and even then the keyboard didn't open on it's own.
This phone is SCREAMING fast when paired with a custom rom and a slight overclock (1Ghz). The phone is capable of 3000+ quadrant scores with a 1.7-1.9Ghz overclock (see XDA) and gets a very respectable 2200-2400 with a mild OC (1.2Ghz) on a Sense based ROM!!! That's freakin' awesome, and if you play any of the emulator rom games for psx/gba/snes, this makes gameplay smooth as butter! You have to be seriously trying to not like this phone. I will happily update after a few more months of heavy use.
Can't wait to get either a seidio or mugen power 1700/1800mah slim battery so I can go a couple days (heavy use) between charges, without having to change my battery cover! With the stock battery and custom rom + mild OC (1.2Ghz) + HEAVY usage, I get between 8-10hrs on a charge, which is very respectable considering how utterly blazing fast this thing is! There are some wonderful programs which can help you get a lot more out of your phone, Tasker, Juice Defender just to name a couple.
The only thing I would say was "poorly" designed would be the speakerphone speaker, while it's not that great, it does do what it is supposed to. Also, the placement of the camera could have been a little better, but the LED is SUPER BRIGHT for when you need to use your phone as a flashlight (for some reason that seems quite often for me... lol)
Other Thoughts: Please just understand people while I feel this phone is pretty rugged compared to how it LOOKS. It is still just a nicely built smartphone and is prone to all kinds of issues if you're not careful enough with it, I am in no way saying this thing is delicate... just common sense people, common sense.

HTC FUZE Phone, Black (AT&T) Review

(More customer reviews)I've owned my Fuze for about a month. It's my second WinMo smartphone (I previously owned a Samsung Blackjack II), and I do WinMo software development in my spare time.
Out of the box, the phone has many features that put iPhones and Blackberries to shame.
Pros:
+ VGA touchscreen (twice the resolution of iPhone's display, and 4 times the resolution of QVGA)
+ QWERTY keyboard has lots of keys that are small, yet easily accessible with my large hands.
+ Accelerometers- might seem gimmicky at first (Teeter is a fun game), the ability to mute a phone call by turning it face-down is surprisingly useful
+ Opera as default web browser. It blows Pocket IE away in terms of speed and usability.
+ Community support- even though HTC doesn't seem to care about customer's support ("We don't care if 3rd party software can't run on your device..."), the folks at xda-developers.com are great about tweaking HTC phones to near-perfection.
+ Wireless connection options are great. Supports AT&T's 3G/HSDPA network. Connection to a Wifi network is surprisingly fast for this little device (I wish my laptop could do this).
+ Supports HSUPA (needs to be unlocked), which increases upload speeds ten-fold (for me at least), which allows much snappier web-browsing
+ MicroSDHC expansion slot, allowing up to 32 GB of extra memory
+ TouchFlo3D front end
+ WinMo has more available apps than most (all?) other smartphone platforms, and is very easy to develop new apps for WM
+ Extra little surprises like the light sensor, very bright LED flash, snazzy notification LED (looks very cool), TV-out functionality (requires $20 cable), and a capacitive touchpad below the screen.
Cons:
- Small screen
- Crappy settings out of the box... Touchflow is jerky on default AT&T rom, GPS lag, hardware Direct3D support (easily fixable with a custom rom from xda-developers)
- AT&T bloatware, trial software wasting precious rom space (again, easily fixable with new rom)
- Glossy black finish = fingerprint magnet and very slippery device. The HTC Touch Pro overseas had a rubber matte back that was much nicer and felt more solid in your hands. No idea why they changed this for the US version.
- Lack of proper hardware drivers for video and 3D acceleration.*
*This is unacceptable. Even after HTC made assurances after the Kaiser driver debacle that future "devices" would be better supported. This thing has awesome hardware that is being advertised as one of the fastest mobile chipsets out on the market (Qualcomm MSM7201a, which has impressive specs on paper), but it runs video and games slower than my Dell Axim PocketPC produced back in 2003.
Overall, this is a great phone that with an impressive number of features. If you can excuse the mediocre video playback and lack of OpenGL ES support, this is an ideal phone. But if you're looking for a robust multimedia device that can handle 640x480 videos as well as 3D games, I'd suggest avoiding HTC phones until they fix their drivers.

(More customer reviews)Although this is phone does indeed come unlocked (It works with any sim card you insert) It is not the international version as described. It is in fact the South-East Asian version of the cell phone which means the following:
- In the phone's settings the user's 'locale' can only be set to two values: Vietnam (English) and Malaysia (English)
- The phone does not have the android market application pre-installed. In stead there is a clone market place installed called 'slide' but this one only has a very few applications compared to the market. This also means that there is no means of updating the existing (google) applications whenever new versions are released.
Even though I haven't tried this myself yet but apparently there is a way for a user with a bit of technical knowledge to install the true international firmware on the phone. So consider yourself warned: if you want to full HTC Tattoo experience, you'll need to do some hacking.

(More customer reviews)I received mine in the end of December. A month is probably not enough to discover all bugs but so far I'm happy with the phone.
First of all, it is really fast. The 1GHz processor does it's job.
The screen resolution is high and the screen size is big enough to surf the web with comfort.
HTC shell is something new to me (I used to have E-ten with Spb Mobile shell) but getting used to it.
Cannot say that I'm impressed with the still picture quality (SE phones have better pictures with less Mpx) but video recording is relatively good. There is no button for shutter so you always have to click on the screen to take picture - not convenient.
I need to charge my phone every second day - that definitely exceeded my expectations, taking into consideration fast processor and big hi-res screen.
The screen uses almost full width of the body, which sometimes causes unexpected clicks when I grab the phone (slowly getting used to it). When browsing e-mails the shell has button "reply to all" on the left side and when you click it, it changes to "send". One time I grabbed the phone and it replied to all and sent an empty message to a huge distribution list. So keep it in mind and be careful ;) I hope there will be a way to protect it somehow.
The phone is bigger than I expected - it's exactly the size of 12oz beer can (you can hide one behind the phone).
The sound level and quality in conversations is excellent. Also, my Highlander hands-free connects very quickly with good sound level.
So far I did not have chance to use built-in GPS. I don't expect anything special comparing to other similar phones.
It does not have a stylus. If you turn the phone, full size keyboard is big enough but.. I think I will get a stylus. At least you need one, when you surf Internet.
Overall - some little flaws, which I found so far, will not be enough to downgrade my 5 star rating. I really enjoy the phone and recommend it to others who is ready to spend [...] bucks on a gadget.

(More customer reviews)I've had my Legend for a week now and can still barely put it down! The integration between apps is amazing. I like the selection of apps from the android market - and the HTC Sense UI makes the whole thing really quite intuitive. This is my first touch-screen phone (I've always had physical keyboard'd phones previously). This is easy to type on, the predictive-text is great.
The cons: With heavy usage, my battery will last me about 12 hrs max. With regular usage then 2 days is typical. The AMOLED screen is awesome, but fairly hard to see outside. I didn't think it would matter that much-- but the place it impacts me is if I'm taking pictures (need to see the screen as the viewfinder). If I place my hand over it for shade, it's generally enough, but still makes me wish I could see it better.
The speed of the device is great. I'm actively recommending it to any of my friends who are in the market right now.l

(More customer reviews)It has everything you want from a smartphone with a simple look. It's very sturdy in built. I dropped the phone once and the back cover and battery fell out but It booted up without any problem afterwards.
This US version doesn't have a front video call camera, but who really uses that anyway. I get HSDPA/3G coverage in the US (Manhattan) and Canada (Vancouver), so there's no question about its 3G frequency and no need to upgrade firmware for it.
TouchFlo 3D is a little slow and takes a while to get used to, but after installing tweaks found on xda, it runs smoothly now. Windows mobile interface also takes some getting-used-to if you are switching from a non-pda phone. Built-in Opera browser is smooth and fast and totally owns IE mobile.
If you are looking for a heavy duty phone that gets you all the phone features plus email (downloaded from both wireless or Wi-Fi), GPS, internet, lots of customization, installing your own software like references, scheduling, maps (it comes with google map), then this is a great phone to be considered.
