(More customer reviews)This phone is great for a few reasons. It's not too fancy, it's very compact, and it fulfills it's objective with ease. Let me elaborate:
Contrary to it's appearance, this phone is about as light on features, as it is on weight. That, however, is not a bad thing at all, depending on your preference. What it lacks in features, it more than makes up with it's ease of use, battery life, functionality as a phone, and of course it looks pretty good as well. If you're like me, then you don't need all of the bells and whistles of Music phones, Windows Mobile, etc. that you could easily get from a Blackberry or iPhone. If all you need is a phone that functions as that, with the added feature of a Qwerty keyboard for ease of texting, then this phone is exactly that. Not only does it look good, the phone has added features; most of them being call related (Call forwarding, call waiting, hold, conference call).
Although it does have a camera/video camera, and music playing ability, the 1.3 MP camera, as well as the 20MB of storage, limits your ability to do either of these with the greatest of results. Still, convenient nonetheless.
The battery life is above average. 3 hours of talk time, and 240 of standby, makes for minimal charging, and maximum usage. Bluetooth also does not suck the battery dry like most other phones, making it ideal for connectivity with a headset or your bluetooth enabled computer/laptop.
While the good certainly outweigh the bad, there are some negatives to this phone. As previously alluded, the camera is a little low on Megapixels, and the 20MB memory doesn't provide much room for anything. Customization is a little limited as well. It does support MP3 ringtones, but is very selective about the wallpaper. Call quality varies, as well. It can go from excellent to average in an instant, and static at times are to be expected. Never does it get to be bad enough to hinder communication, however.
All in all, a very basic phone, but who needs anything more? Works great as a phone, texting is easy, battery life is very good, and as stated above, it looks great as well.

This high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services including full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.
The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more (requires additional service subscription).
It's also pre-loaded with AT&T's Mobile Banking application, which is compatible with accounts from banks including Wachovia, SunTrust, Synovus, and BancorpSouth. Mobile Banking from AT&T affords you the flexibility to stay on top of your banking needs while you're on the move, enabling you to check your account balance, securely transfer funds between your eligible accounts, view and pay bills, and review your transaction history. Phone Features The Pantech Slate has a 2.2-inch LCD screen with a 220 x 176-pixel resolution and a 262K color depth. It sits above a square five-way navigation pad that's surrounded by send/end keys, two soft navigation keys, and a dedicated speakerphone key. Pressing the middle toggle button on the navigator acts as a shortcut to the web browser when the phone is on standby. The full QWERTY keyboard features raised, bubble-like keys for easy typing, and it includes a dedicated key for access your email box. The phone is limited to 20 MB of internal memory (with no expansion slot), and it can store up to 600 contact entries in its phonebook with room for storing three numbers and two email addresses per entry as well as support for picture/ringer ID and caller groups.
The 1.3-megapixel camera can capture still images in six resolutions (1280 x 960, 1024 x 768, 800 x 600, 640 x 480, 320 x 240, and 220 x 176 pixels) and offers three image quality settings. It also features a 2x digital zoom, multi-shot capabilities, white balance settings, a self-timer, and ability to turn off the shutter sound. The phone can also capture video clips in two resolutions (176 x 144 and 128 x 96 pixels) in two different lengths--short for sending via MMS messaging or long for showing to friends later.
Handsfree communication is easy thanks to the integrated speakerphone. Verizon PN-820 Phone (Verizon Wireless, Phone Only, No Service) Review

(More customer reviews)I've been looking for Smartphone for the last year but there was not folder Smartphones until this one on Verizon network, and I really didn't want any other form factor. I considered switching to Cingular when 3125 was released but reviews weren't that good and I really didn't want to leave Verizon. So when PN-820 was released I decide to give it a try.
At this time I've been using this phone for 2 weeks and I am keeping it. My rating for this phone is 4 out of 5.
The most important factor for me is how the phone performs it's main function - making and receiving calls. If I were not satisfied in this area I wouldn't keep it. I can report that this phone performs great. Good sound quality, loud enough, no dropped calls, good signal strength. Battery life is satisfactory considering this is a smartphone.
It is a little bit larger than I would prefer, especially considering external antenna stub. If antenna was internal the size would be almost perfect.
Don't be in a hurry to get extended battery unless you are a heavy user. I don't talk much on the phone but tinker with its features and standard battery easily lasts for 2 days. If you work with computers I would recommend getting extra data cable to charge it at work via USB port.
Using this phone as a smartphone:
The amount of applications for it is endless, the customization is limitless. Great gadget!
T9 works great for occasional emailing. For heavy emailing you definitely need something with full keyboard or touch screen and on-screen keyboard.
Internet browsing is surprisingly usable but you should prefer websites geared towards the mobile devices. Also you may want to try Opera browser
Entering user names, passwords and URLs gets annoying fast :D
Unless you are on unlimited data plan watch out for data usage! It can get expensive really fast.
I tried using this phone for navigation with Mapopolis and compared it with Mapopolis running on my Axim x51v PDA. Let me just says that I am not getting rid of my PDA. Program performs almost the same on both devices but larger screen on Axim and touch screen make it much more convenient. Basically, for any planned long distance driving I will keep using Axim, for anything else PN-820 is good enough, especially for walking. Works great with GPSlim 240 BT GPS.
Skype works fairly good, but you can only hear the other party on the speaker. Again, WATCH OUT FOR DATA USAGE!
Voice command work great for me, but apparently not so good via BT headset - I don't have BT headset and can't comment.
Things I don't like about this phone:
1) Almost useless external display. It's not on all the time, only lights up for the event or when you press the button. The reason is most likely power consumption, but why couldn't they make it black-and-white so that it doesn't need permanent backlight and can stay on all the time? I don't care for camera preview on this display.
2) In the bright sunlight it's somewhat difficult to see the display (internal and external)
3) Proprietary connector - why not just use mini-USB? The reason is obvious - to make ridiculous profit on accessories, but I don't have to like it.
4) Keypad back light times out too quickly and there is no way to change it.
5) Alarms/Message notifications only ring once. I was really surprised by this. Admittedly it seems to be a "feature" of all smartphones, but it doesn't make sense to me. There is third party software to fix that.
6) It seems that camera lags about 2 seconds, but I personally don't care about the camera at all.
7) I wish Verizon offered the version of this phone without the camera - I would prefer smaller size, better battery life and reduced complexity.
8) Antenna stub makes it somewhat large than I prefer. I carry my phone in the pocket and this size is already pushing it. If I didn't want a smartphone I would never consider the phone of this size.
9) There is no note taking application built in.
Update: It is now November 2008 and I still use this phone. It is very stable - I never have to reboot it.

(More customer reviews)This is the best phone I've had so far. Its got great reception no matter where I go, and it still gets crystal clear calls and sends text messages fast even when I have as little as one bar.
Its very easy to navigate. The camera takes very high quality pictures that shames my friends' $500 phones by a mile. I've never lost a call. I can always hear the other person clearly, and if I can't, its because they're not talking clearly or because they have been reception. I send a lot of txt messages and use the mp3 player a lot and my battery still lasts me 5+ days on a single charge, and when it does go dead, it charges back to full in under 30 mins.
I've had this phone for two, maybe three years now, and believe me when say this phone is stylish, practically indestructable, and works like you wouldn't believe. Its perfect!

Phone Features At 0.58 inches thick, the RAZR V3xx is virtually the same thickness as the original RAZR. Pantech Matrix C740 Phone, Red (AT&T) Review

(More customer reviews)Many people like the dual slider phones. One way, it's a full keyboard. The other, it's a standard number pad. This is the appeal of the Matrix. However, it doesn't do everything like it should.
Pros first...
* Has a camera, although the quality is pretty shabby at 1.3 megapixels.
* Has a full keyboard.
* Comes in at least 2 different colors.
* Is 3G enabled, so you can use the GPS services and use high speed data.
Cons...
* Doesn't seem 'sturdy' - definitely get insurance or the Best Buy protection plan.
* Keyboard is a bit small - the letters at the top of the keyboard are difficult to press unless you have tiny thumbs.
* Because of the dual slider function, the phone is thicker than most phones.
* Not sure how long the dual slider function will last - just one or two more parts that could break in the long run.
* Pantech chargers can be incredibly hard to find in stores, as well as cases.
In closing - if you have small thumbs or really liked the last Pantech slider, you'll have no problem getting used to this phone. It's everything the last edition was, plus more. If not, I'd probably skip this one, as there are many other better phones on the market.

(More customer reviews)I dropped my iphone in the sink, it sunk, and since a new version comes out in a month, I had to get something to tide me over---so I took a chance on the dreaded Microsoft and an often panned Pantech Duo. I've had it two weeks now and I have to say: this was a lucky find.
First of all, this is not a flimsy phone as has been reported. With two sliding keyboards (much like a magic trick!), it is amazingly solid. The screen is extremely bright and vivid.The QUERTY keyboard is small, but way better than a touch screen, however, there is almost no sense of feedback, so you still have to be careful.
Phone-wise, it sounds very good to me, and gets signal where Iphone couldn't. It has a bounty of software, including To-Do and various versions of OFFICE.3G internet access is pretty fast, nothing compared to a good laptop on a DSL, but usable.
I like that it is very easy to change ringers, from silent to normal to vibrate.The camera is just ok, but I don't really count on my phone to serve as my photographic equipment.
It's a little chunky, but its other dimensions are quite small.
All in all, I haven't seen a phone out there without a touch screen which is better. The ATT tilt is way bigger and heavier, and has no mechanical buttons for dialing.
I think most people would enjoy this phone. It does not sync with a Mac, by the way, unless you buy 3rd party software.Aside from that, it's a winner for me.

Very clear reception. I have service when others don't in certain areas. Only thing I would change is a louder ringtone. I love this phone! It fits easily in my front pocket and the vibrate mode is very loud and easy to feel.

- It can reproduce a variety of media files, including mp3, mp4 (only if it is encoded in the right way with h.264) and 3gp.
- 1.3mp camera that's so-so: very grainy an awful if theres isn't enough light. Can record video too.
- The interfeace is clean and to-the-point, so no fancy stuff but intuitive menus in return. The response time is fast.
- Loudspeaker function.
- Expansion slot for microsd (max 2gigs I think).
-Contacts can be customized to custom mp3 ringtones.
- Media player with support of playlists, calculator, notepad, voice recorder, stopwatch, converter for weight, area, volume, temperature and currency.
- Bluetooth and Java 2.0
- 2g Tri-band, with support of the new 3g.
- Frontal camera for videoconference calls.
- The package contains propietary earphones, propietary usb transfer cable, charger (for when you don't have a pc close to charge via usb), and an amazing software to transfer data, edit videos, edit pictures and backup from and to outlook (for memos, calendar, and contacts), contact manager and mms composer.
Some minor cons:
- Mine is black and stylish, and because it's so shiny, always looks dirty for the oil in the fingers that get stuck on the surface.
- Sometimes it get stuck in "SOS Call Only", and don't let you make or receive any calls. This happens because if there's two or more GSM bands that can be picked up by the phone, when he picks one up it sticks to that one, even if the one from a different provider. To prevent this, in the Menu->Settings->Network you can change from automatic to manual, so you can choose you carrier and make the phone to stick to that carrier only.
- It has no Spanish language, only English, Deutsch, Italian and French.
Good thing I understand english....
- The manual is in french.
- Always show at start-up the "Orange" logo from the originally french GSM provider of this phone.

(More customer reviews)I bought my 18-year-old daughter this phone to replace a Razor so she could text more easily. She has had it for 6 months and LOVES it. Very easy to use as a "texting tool". She does not connect to the internet on it. The smaller size is nice, it fits well in a pocket.
I then bought the phone for my 16-year old son, and had a different experience. After 25 days, we returned it because it froze frequently, and would not receive phone calls/texts occasionally even with full bars of service. He regularly had to remove the battery and put it back in to reset it. The new replacement pantech duo phone has worked great, no problems. He has had this one for 2 months.
I am guessing that maybe there are some duds out there, so just make sure you can exchange it before you plunk down your money. (I purchased mine through an AT&T store and had no problem with the return.)
