(More customer reviews)I'm very disappointed in this phone for a couple of very serious usability issues - you can't tell if this phone is on or off - the outside window is really worthless. The outside glass is so shiny, whenever the backlight is off you can't see anything in the window. Do you use your phone to tell the time - too bad, can't see it. Want to see signal strength - sorry, can't see it. Want to see anything in the window in outdoor light, sorry. It really is pretty worthless.
Camera is OK, not great. Performance seems good. Features are ok, although I miss being able to program top level top keys - they are always Shortcuts and Menus.
Size is very nice, fits great in hand when calling. Keypad is really pretty good for texting. The predictive text input is better than earlier Motorola phones.
The problem is that with all the choices T-Mobile has right now, I'm not sure there is a much better phone. The RIZR has many of the same issues as the KRZR - external display pretty worthless with the backlight off. None of the Samsungs seem to get very good reviews. Nokia 6133 is ok, but seems a bit flimsy.
So, I'll live with this for the next two years, but I'll certainly miss being able to check signal and time at a quick glance.
UPDATE: I've had this phone for six months now, and I feel a little better about it. I still really hate the fact that the front screen is worthless, but the phone has held up really well, and the keyboard is pretty easy to text with. A hint: get screen protectors. This really solves the fingerprint problem you can read about in other reviews.

Pros:
- Screen is clear and very scratch resistant.
- Great phone reception. I'm using it with AT&T (in the San Francisco region).
- Battery still lasts 3 days on standby, even after 6 months.
- Lots of hidden features. The documentation isn't so great, but you can do things like hold down the volume up key to use the camera flash as a flashlight, have multiple world clocks on the screen, etc.
- Camera is excellent. Solid quality even in lower light.
- Keypad is holding up well.
- Size is perfect. I've had smaller phones and I just lost them in stacks of papers. This one is small enough to fit in my front pocket, but not so small I can't hold it.
Cons:
- Text messaging is a frustrating experience (more details below).
- Slider action is ever so slightly wobbly after 6 months.
- Touch sensitive buttons offer no feedback and are poorly placed so as to be accidentally hit all the time. They are in the middle of the phone (when it's open). The perfect place to hold the phone in one hand while entering text messages.
- I purchased an extra Micro SD card, but I'm not even sure if the phone is using it.More detailed gripes:
I'm a big fan of Samsung phones and their operating system, but the changes to their Text Messaging subsystem are horrible. Did they do any real world usability testing?
- The T9 text input annoying.
It has a matching "drop down" menu for matched words, unless your text is so long it's at the bottom of the screen, the behavior changes so the menu drops "up". So, you're used to hitting the down arrow to find words, then it suddenly changes to require you to hit the arrow up. (And hitting the arrow down accepts whatever nonsense characters you've typed.)
- The delete character button doubles as the cancel button. Type too many bad characters and hit the hang up button 3 times quickly to delete them and you loose your whole text message.

Samsung t509 Phone (T-Mobile) Review

(More customer reviews)This is a good little phone. We got it when we renewed our contract with T-Mobile over a month ago and have been very pleased. Here's my nutshell review:
PROS:
GREAT CALL QUALITY - to me this is the most important feature of the phone. If you can't hear people, and they can't hear you, who cares about the pictures, video, neon lights, etc.? This phone has crystal clear call quality, among the best I've encountered.
GORGEOUS SCREEN - this is the second most useful aspect of the phone. If you can't see what you are doing, then it makes the phone that much more irritating to use. This phone has one of the best screens that you will see, it is minimally smaller than a RAZRs screen, but appears brighter and perhaps has better resolution.
SMALL AND REALLY THIN. Almost too light and too thin, you can easily forget what pocket it is in. This could be a con, but it is invisible in a suit, and you don't have to wear those dorky external phone holders, which can only be a plus.
DURABLE - dropped it from chest height (nearly 4 ft.) onto the following surfaces, concrete, ceramic tile, and carpeting (okay, so that last one isn't all that impressive). Although the battery cover comes off and the battery pops out, after you put it back together, the phone still works. Also, I've yet to find a scratch from dropping it, which means the phone's casing is pretty well put together.
CAMERA - This is my first camera phone, and I must say they did a nice job with the execution. There is a devoted camera button, and the pictures are not bad for use on the phone (I haven't and probably wouldn't do anything other than e-mail them to anyone).
MENUS - Samsung menus are easy to follow. There is almost no learning curve. That means the menu designer is doing his or her job.
T-MOBILE - I've had good luck with them and their customer service is the best. While their service coverage may not be quite as good as Verizon, in NYC, they've put up more towers, and its gotten significantly better.
CONS:

CANDY BAR STYLING - I'm preferential to clam shell phones. Although they are thicker and somewhat clunkier in their styling, I'm not as afraid of getting the beautiful screen scratched.
SPEAKERPHONE VOLUME - The speakerphone works fine, but I find that the volume is too low for use anywhere but indoors in a fairly quiet room.
PHONE HEIGHT - This is getting really nitpicky, but I'm used to shorter phones (because I generally get clamshells). If this phone were about half an inch or an inch shorter (it can't really be much thinner), then it would be an ideal size.
That's it. Good luck in choosing a good cell phone. You can't go wrong with this one.

Overall, I think I am a nokia person. I like the look of the phone and the size is sweet and I like the ringtones and clearity of phone, but I was so disappointed with the batttery life and reception. My old nokia's battery would last for three days and could find a signal anywhere. Maybe its just because I'm not used to Motorola's but overall I'm underwhelmed.

(More customer reviews)As I said, if it's slim & sexy you're looking for then this phone is for you. After lugging a Treo 650 around for nearly two years I couldn't take it anymore, I had to go thin. I looked at several options and settled on the x820 and it hasn't disappointed yet. I have my POP3 email, SMS and MMS a good camera (unlike the Treo which was a waste of time) and a good screen too. I'd even say that the keys give good feedback when they're pressed unlike the Motorola which look very cool but that's where it stops.
The menu's are a little long but work fast unlike motorola or sony-ericsson that try to do too much with no processing power. The memory size is only 80MB, so if you want a full-on MP3 play this isn't it, go for something with a micro SD slot instead.
I am still figuring out how long the battery life really is due to my irratic charging of the phone the first couple of days, as you'll appreciate, the battery is also very thin so there's not much of it, best guess at present is about 3 days with about 1-2 hours of talk time.
In conclusion, if you want a very very good phone and you're only away from your computer for short periods and wont need Gigs of email or MP3's then this phone is worth considering seriously. I love it

Don't turn this phone sideways. It's likely to disappear. Meet one of the thinnest phones on the market, the Samsung SGH-X820. At just about a quarter of an inch thick at its widest point, this phone slides effortlessly into the tightest jeans pocket. It also looks great, with a unique beveled faceplate that makes it comfortable to hold. Somehow, Samsung has also managed to fit some amazing features into this small package, including stereo Bluetooth, a music player, support for EDGE high-speed data, an email client, and a speakerphone. Perhaps most impressively, the X820 also sports a two-megapixel camera.
Design The X820 takes the candybar form factor and runs it under a steamroller, making this one flat phone. Constructed of fiberglass-infused plastic, the case might be thin, but it's also strong enough to handle rough and tumble days.
