(More customer reviews)This is a good little phone. We got it when we renewed our contract with T-Mobile over a month ago and have been very pleased. Here's my nutshell review:
PROS:
GREAT CALL QUALITY - to me this is the most important feature of the phone. If you can't hear people, and they can't hear you, who cares about the pictures, video, neon lights, etc.? This phone has crystal clear call quality, among the best I've encountered.
GORGEOUS SCREEN - this is the second most useful aspect of the phone. If you can't see what you are doing, then it makes the phone that much more irritating to use. This phone has one of the best screens that you will see, it is minimally smaller than a RAZRs screen, but appears brighter and perhaps has better resolution.
SMALL AND REALLY THIN. Almost too light and too thin, you can easily forget what pocket it is in. This could be a con, but it is invisible in a suit, and you don't have to wear those dorky external phone holders, which can only be a plus.
DURABLE - dropped it from chest height (nearly 4 ft.) onto the following surfaces, concrete, ceramic tile, and carpeting (okay, so that last one isn't all that impressive). Although the battery cover comes off and the battery pops out, after you put it back together, the phone still works. Also, I've yet to find a scratch from dropping it, which means the phone's casing is pretty well put together.
CAMERA - This is my first camera phone, and I must say they did a nice job with the execution. There is a devoted camera button, and the pictures are not bad for use on the phone (I haven't and probably wouldn't do anything other than e-mail them to anyone).
MENUS - Samsung menus are easy to follow. There is almost no learning curve. That means the menu designer is doing his or her job.
T-MOBILE - I've had good luck with them and their customer service is the best. While their service coverage may not be quite as good as Verizon, in NYC, they've put up more towers, and its gotten significantly better.
CONS:

CANDY BAR STYLING - I'm preferential to clam shell phones. Although they are thicker and somewhat clunkier in their styling, I'm not as afraid of getting the beautiful screen scratched.
SPEAKERPHONE VOLUME - The speakerphone works fine, but I find that the volume is too low for use anywhere but indoors in a fairly quiet room.
PHONE HEIGHT - This is getting really nitpicky, but I'm used to shorter phones (because I generally get clamshells). If this phone were about half an inch or an inch shorter (it can't really be much thinner), then it would be an ideal size.

Here's the latest contender in the race to build the thinnest, most stylish phone on the planet. In fact, the Samsung t509 is one of the skinniest phones money can buy, measuring just .39 inches thick, or 10 millimeters. Amazingly, this phone also happens to pack a lot of features into its svelte frame, including Bluetooth, a VGA camera, support for EDGE high speed data, a speakerphone, and more. It's a the perfect way to slim down and take advantage of T-Mobile service.
Design One look at this phone and you'll wonder where the phone went. The design is simple, refined, and--once again--thin. The numeric keypad resides below a circular five-way control toggle that controls most of the phone's menus and functions. The large, 176 x 220 display supports up to 65,000 colors, while 10.5 MB of internal memory gives you plenty of room for pictures, contacts, and other data. The t509's VGA camera unit resides on the rear of the phone, and there's a port for plugging in the included hands-free headset.
Calling Features The t509's phone book can store up to 1000 contacts, phone numbers and addresses, while a call list remembers your most recent missed, received and dialed calls. In addition to a vibrating alert, the t509 supports polyphonic ringtones. You can also download additional ringtones from T-Mobile's t-zones service. A speakerphone lets you talk hands-free while you're doing other things, and picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers.Like all T-Mobile phones, the t509 also supports voicemail, caller ID, conference calling, call forwarding, call waiting, call hold, built-in paging, and access to T-Mobile's 411 service. Lastly, the phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools The t509 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging clients for AOL, Yahoo!, MSN, and ICQ are included.
Getting on the Internet is easy with the t509, too. It supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the new, high speed EDGE data protocol. When used with a T-Mobile data plan and the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. There's also a built-in browser for t-zones downloads and mobile Web browsing. T-Mobile's t-zones service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile text messaging users.
A number of handy productivity tools are bundled with the t509 including a voice memo recorder, an alarm clock, a calculator with unit converter, and a calendar.
Imaging and Entertainment The t509's built-in VGA (640 x 480) camera captures stills and video to the phone's 10 MB of internal memory. The camera captures videos of up to 15 seconds in length at 176 x 144 resolution.
Meanwhile, if you want to dress up your t509, picture effects, custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be set to fit your personality. Plus, Java support is built into the t509, making it a powerful gaming companion. Games are downloadable via the t-zones service.
Vital Statistics The Samsung SGH-t509 weighs 2.7 ounces and measures 4.6 x 1.83 x 0.39 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.5 hours of digital talk time, and up to 172 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/1800/1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.
