(More customer reviews)The Katana LX is a marked improvement in design if you compare it to the older phones. This phone has a memory card slot but you'll have to buy your memory. The interface is fast and the graphics are sufficient. It comes with the basic features most phones offer nowadays - loud speaker, bluetooth, mp3 player, media card slot, camcorder, 1.3 megapixel camera. Added features include a very nice display on the outside which looks very well illuminated. The phone doesn't come with any usb cable or headset, you have to buy your own 2.5mm headets. A surprise feature in all Sanyo phones is the inclusion of the ability to send phone numbers via bluetooth. You can send all your contacts using the bluetooth, this can be a demerit if someone doesn't want their contacts to be at everyone's disposal.
Good phone for the price. However one thing doesn't charm me. The cover is very easily scratched on the outside and when you hold the phone it can sometimes feel a little toy-like. If you're lookin for a better phone with a better build quality and some more features, go for the katana eclipse.
The LX 3800 phone comes in black,blue and pink. Girls, you will love the pink. Men, try the Eclipse black. The phone is compatible with all the Sprint plans and can be set up within minutes at a store for an upgrade or new contract.

Phone Features Curvier with rounder edges than the other models in Sanyo's Katana line, the Katana LX is highlighted by the unique external OLED display that glows through the mirrored-finish and completely disappears when not in use. It displays current time/date, signal strength and battery life--but not caller ID--and it also provides whimsical, short animation clips for added fun. The internal 2-inch display has a 128 x 160-pixel resolution and 65K color depth. Below the screen you'll find a circular five-way navigation pad that's complemented by a round frame of buttons, including a dedicated camera key, back button, and two soft navigation keys. Sanyo Katana II 6650 Black Phone (Sprint) Review

(More customer reviews)This is my first non-samsung phone in over 10 yrs. So far it compares very favorably to anything samsung I have ever owned, feature per feature Katana is just better, built quality is higher and the design is more ergonomic.
Now, having said that, I don't use cameras, I don't text, the internets and other non-essential services are shut down completely. So I can't vouch if the phone is good in those departments. It is good in the department where it counts: it has a good battery life, it has a actually usable speaker and works in more places where samsung didn't work (in the elevators for example)
Now the cons: There is no dedicated power charging input. The power is supposed to go through the data cable. This is very inconvenient, but it seems that most of the recent phones are going away with the dedicated power inputs. Why? What was so wrong about it? Who knows. As a result I have to throw away good dozen different power chargers that accumulated over the years.
Another cons is that when syncing up data with your computer (through the above mentioned data cable) there is no way to put any images, wallpapers or ringers on the phone. One can easily sync up addresses and calendar, but putting images and sound into the phone is disabled. Again, why ?
I guess both of these flaws are intentional as they do generate a fair amount of money for sprint, after all I have to buy now new chargers that are not subsidized and if I wanted to customize the phone with a new sound or image, again, I would have to pay to sprint to be able to do so. Rated 4 out 5, as the phone itself is quite good.

Sanyo Incognito SCP-6760 Phone, Black (Sprint) Review

(More customer reviews)I got this along with a new 2 year contract with Sprint in Austin Texas. So all my observations are based on that network.
When i was looking for a phone there were several key features. I wanted a full keyboard for Texting. I wanted a real number pad on the front so I didn't have to hunt and peck on sub sized keys to use my cell phone for actually making a call. I didn't want it to be too big because I always carry it in my pocket. I wanted a good keygaurd to prevent accidental calls from my pocket (previously I had used flip phones). Beyond that reception and battery life were important.
The Sanyo Incognito seems like the perfect combination of what I wanted.
Overview
The Icognito is a slick looking phone, when not active the key face is totally slick black with beveled edges. When you activate the front face they "keys" light up. The Front keys are touch sensitive spots on the face, you don't really press them so much as tapping them on a keyboard. The keys are electostatically activated which means that you can't peck them out using a pencil or a glove, it takes a bare finger or other body part (or special devices).
The screen can be locked or unlocked with a slider switch on the left hand side (you flick it and it returns to position automatically). I find the switch to be a little on the small side but your unlikely to flick it by accident. If you have keygaurd on you have to flick this switch to answer or make a call and at the end of the call (because the keygaurd goes back on after a number of seconds) you have to flick the switch again if you want to hit end call. Slightly annoying.
Pressing the keys takes a little getting used to, they are VERY sensitive. Each time you tap a key it activivates the vibrate mechanism so that you get some type of tactile feedback (the whole phone vibrates) when you tap a key.
After a few days use you begin to get used to the whole thing (hitting the right keys, using the keygaurd, not hitting keys by accident). Its not as good as a real keypad with real buttons but its slick.
One downside I found is that if you are in a very, very high moisture environment (I just got out of the shower in steamy bathroom) the front keypad will not work. The condensation on the unit prevented it from detecting the bodys electrostic signals. I took it out of the room and wiped it off and it worked fine.
Another issue I have with the front keypad is it doesn't have full functionality. You can't T9 Text, assign functions to the arrows and some other stuff I could do with a conventional sanyo keypad. Also the "glow" goes away after a few seconds of not using it (saves power) but if your tapping in PIN numbers or navigating a phone menu this key be annoying (hit 2 to leave a message, ahhh, where is 2?) as you have to do something to activiate the light, then hit your buttons.
Looking at the right side of the phone (the left side has nothing other than keygaurd) there are several buttons. One seems to call up most recent history, there is the volume control, the Micro SD card slot (comes with a 1Gig card) and the charging/data port. Uses the Micro USB format charger.
Flipping it open revels the real beauty of the phone. A generously sized QWERTY keyboard (be cell phone standards) and a nice 320x240 screen. They keys on the keyboard have a nice tactile response. There are keys dedicated to common IM/Texting things (smiley face, @, ? and period. For less common symbols there is a FN key that lets you use the marked symbols on the key. Clicking FN will make your next key click the symbol, you don't have to hold it down uless you want multiple symbols. There is a 4 way navigator pad with central OK button. One touch buttons for camera, text messaging and speakerphone.
The screen and UI are nice. Its not an Iphone but nice. There is a floating strip (called the carosel) across the bottom that lets you have shortcuts to items like the web, facebook, any of the phone tools, settings, other websites etc. Really nice if your doing facebook or twitter updates. It can be personalized. The screen is sharp and crisp. In BRIGHT sunlight it is still a little dim as are the keys on the front keypad. Still usable but not vibrant.
The back of the phone contains the camera and the speaker. The camera is a 2mp CMOS unit and doesn't take especially great pictures. The speaker is pretty good. No flash or mirror for self portraits. Also the placement of the camera is such that when you activate it (By opening the keyboard and pressing buttons) your finger is usually covering it. You have to remember to move your finger. The placement of the camera button while using it is a little awkward as well. If taking really great camera phone pictures is your thing this isn't your best choice.
Functionality
So it's a cool phone but how well does it work. The answer is pretty good.
As a cell phone it has decent reception and battery life. My previous Sanyo (a basic flip model and a earlier version of the Katana) had slightly better reception but this one is pretty good. No real complains in the Austin area. The volume and clarity of the speaker are average, it could certainly be louder and clearer. It is comfortable enough in the hand and thick enough to clamp between the check and shoulder. T
Battery life is good, seems to run about 3.5 days of normal use (at least 5-10 calls and 10 texts a day). Recharge time is a few hours.
Texting is great. The full keyboard with generously sized keys makes typing a breeze (for a cell phone). The screen is nice and easy to read. Texts are threaded by contact and date. Adding attachments to a text would be fairly easy but they do consume KB and are not covered under just the text plan.
As far as web surfing, GPS and internet use, I don't know. I didn't subscribe to the data package because its not worth it right now. Looks like status updates and uploading pictures from the phone would be a breeze and I'm sure email would be nice.

Conclusion
If you are looking for a cool slick phone and you do a lot of texting and/or email this phone is an excellent choice. It's a texters dream. Its got a rich feature set, good UI, decent reception and battery life and the best cell phone keyboard I've ever pecked on. Its not a one trick wonder either, it handles all of its tasks well and doesn't leave you wanting for much.
If your not doing significant texting or email there are better choices for phones unless your just in love with the style. It's a capable web browser but other phones with a larger touch sensitive screen would work better.
But for what I wanted and what I use it for this phone was one of the best phones out there.

This one is pretty in pink. Has much of the same stuff as the first. More colors and tones. Just as fun.

(More customer reviews)Currently options are limited for Sprint users who would like to join the QWERTY crowd but don't want an expensive data plan. As of this writing, your current choices are the Samsung Rant, LG Rumor 2, LG Lotus or the Sanyo SCP-2700. Cool name it has not, but the Sanyo SCP-2700 has been proven to be a very reliable and durable and these factors alone make all the competition pale in comparison. Both the slider QWERTY's, the Rant and Rumor, are prone to issues with the screen and keyboard. Even if you're lucky enough to avoid the widespread issues of screens breaking and keyboards becoming unresponsive, the issue of the keyboard becoming dislodged in a pocket or purse and thus unlocking the keypad is a major annoyance. True, they can both play music, hold an SD card and the Rant has a camcorder, but the track record for the durability of these phones is absolutely awful. It is common to hear of people replacing these phones every few months. I don't think the music player and SD slot are quite worth that headache. As for the Lotus, it has just as many great features as the slider phones, but it has it's own host of issues, the most glaring being that it simply stops working for absolutely no reason at all. My brother has had this phone replaced twice in the 4 months he has owned it and both of my niece and nephew's Rants started having issues almost immediately after purchase.
That really leaves us with only one option: The Sanyo SCP-2700. Now, there are some major issues regarding the feature list on this phone. Other websites offering this phone claim it is music enabled. A call to Sprint even verified that the phone is music enabled, but upon bringing it home and reading the manual, it is not music enabled. Another source of confusion is whether or not you can use a Micro USB cable to transfer files to and from this phone. When attempting to purchase the phone from the Sprint website, it actually offers you a Micro USB data cable as an optional accessory. It took 3 calls to Sprint and one call to the tech department to get a definitive answer on both of these issues. This phone is NOT music enabled and does NOT have the capability to transfer files to and from your PC or laptop. If you like custom ringtones, you will have to download them. You aren't able to bluetooth them from another phone either. All of the negative reviews you will find on this phone are directly related to the misinformation that customers receive. They go into it thinking it will have features it does not, and then are rightfully disappointed. Though, in the Sanyo SCP-2700's shining favor, I've yet to come across a single statement about this phone breaking. Also, as of this writing, Sprint seems to have corrected their product page and "music-enabled" no longer appears in the feature list for this phone.
Now that I've emphasized the reliability and durability, it's time to talk features! I don't know how I lived without threaded texting before this phone. It makes texting so much easier and you can view entire conversations from over a course of several days or weeks rather than have all your messages from different contacts all jumbled together in one menu. It also has a kind of "call waiting" feature when it comes to texts. On past phones, when sending a text and another text or call comes in, you will lose what you were typing. With this phone, it saves a draft of the message you sent, even if you have several uncompleted messages to different people. It's entirely possible to carry on several text conversations at once with this feature. Text entry itself is very responsive and quick. Some people have stated that the keyboard is too small for their fingers but my husband has large, rough hands and has no trouble texting on this phone. The keys on the keyboard are rubberized and feel nice as you are typing. I also feel that the rubberized effect makes typing easier and more accurate than smooth keys, such as those on the LG Rumor 2, because it doesn't allow your fingers to slip all over the keyboard. Another nice feature is the ability to add a unique tone for each contact when you have an incoming text. Typically you only see this feature for incoming calls and the texts are all required to share the same tone. Now you can differentiate who is texting you with unique ringtones, or even make some incoming texts, such as those from people not in your contact list, completely silent. Clearly, this phone is the queen (or king!) of pure texting.
Another favorite feature of mine is the voice & ringer option for incoming calls and texts. When selected, it will read the name or phone number of the incoming call or text. Such as "Incoming call from Bob" or "You have a message from Chris". This is nice for people who want to have custom ringtones so they can identify the caller/texter without having to pay to download them off the internet. It does a pretty good job of pronouncing the names. You can enter a very long name if you'd like, though it will only pronounce the first three words. So, for example, you could have it say "Incoming call from your husband, John." All of this is done via text entry. You just name your contacts and set the ringer to voice & ringer and the phone does the rest. It's an excellent feature, especially for bluetooth users who like to be completely hands free. You can know who is calling without even looking at your phone.
Yet another huge bonus on this phone is that it uses the Nuance voice recognition software. For those who aren't familiar, Nuance allows you to talk out loud to make calls and perform other tasks on your phone, such as checking time, checking signal strength, or even opening your calendar, all using your voice. Voice recognition isn't exactly new to the scene, but in the past you had to "train" your phone to recognize your voice, going through one contact at a time and recording your voice so that the phone would recognize you and you alone. With Nuance, there is no training. It can read your voice along with everyone else's. No training required. You can simply say "Call Mom" and it will call. It may ask to verify what you said, to which you just answer yes or no and it will then make the call. If there are several numbers listed for that name, it will ask you which you'd like to call. To bypass this, you can just say "Call Mom Mobile" and it will go straight to your mom's cell phone without asking for you to choose which number you'd like to call. It is amazingly accurate in reading what you say, and you don't have to pronounce it slowly and overly loud to make it understand you. A normal tone of voice and normal pace of speaking works just as well. This feature is simply awesome with Bluetooth. With my Samsung WEP200 (which is perfect, by the way) I can leave my phone in my pocket or even in a central area of my home and have complete control over incoming and outgoing calls with just a single touch of the multi-function button on the headset. I can plug my phone in to charge and still go on with my day and send and receive calls from my phone without being near it. Again, awesome!
The battery life on this phone is also fantastic. I can easily go three days without charging the phone. That's primarily with a lot of texting and at least three hours of phone time. Overall, it is a fantastic phone for texting and hands free enthusiasts, young and old. I don't believe for a second that this phone is reserved for teens and tweens as other reviews have suggested. It is plenty sophisticated for the seasoned texter. The only thing it lacks are the more "fluff" features such as an MP3 player and camcorder which is most definitely aimed more at the younger crowd as most of the rest of us already have a dedicated MP3 player and camcorder that will easily outperform them. I may be old-fashioned but I like my phone to be a phone. I want it to be a communication device that I can use on the go. End of story. I don't want to burn up my battery listening to music and find myself unable to make any calls.
These are the main features of the Sanyo SCP-2700 that I love and use all the time. It has a lot more to offer though, including a great GPS system, web browser, voice memo (you can record calls as well with this), all your typical organizer tools, polyphonic ringers, and more. Some of the features go hand in hand with the QWERTY keyboard like the email software and access to social networks. The product description goes into full detail of all these features. Overall, this is an excellent phone and is hands down the choice for active texters and hands free users. Pass up the other junk on the market and get this phone that will last long after the others have been recycled.

(More customer reviews)This is a great, affordable CELL PHONE. Got it for $100 on eBay and am not locked into another 2-year contract w/Sprint. Remember the days when a phone was a phone? I ditched my RAZR for this phone and have never been happier. This phone does what it is supposed to do. It makes and receives phone calls. I used to think there was a problem with my bluetooth, but no, it was my RAZR (among the myriad of other problems I had with that phone). The battery life on this phone is amazing. I can go days without needing to charge it, though I should say I don't talk on the phone excessively, though I definitely use it a few times a day for calls and texting. Sure, it does other things, too, but come on people: if you want to take good pictures, USE A CAMERA. Remember when a camera was a camera? Why do we need our phones to be everything except a phone? For those of you who do need it to be, however, it's also possible to use the phone as an alarm clock (w/snooze!), a calendar, a timer, calculator and a slew of other things you wouldn't normally think of. It's also nice, as many aspects of these extras are programmable (like you can choose the length of the snooze). The user interface is incredibly user-friendly and fast (compared to the sluggish RAZR interface...ugh!!!). Entering contacts is really easy and there is quite a variety of good ringers that come with the phone. What can I say? It's a great little PHONE!!!!

(More customer reviews)If you have a Sprint service plan and are looking for a nice inexpensive phone, then this is the one to get. This is my fifth phone in a two year period (I lose a lot of phones), and four of them have been Sanyo's. I would reccomend a Sanyo phone alone based on my experience, and the experiences my friends have had with other brands. Sanyo makes high quality stuff, and anything by them I highly reccomend because their phones are very sturdy and well-built).
I have barely begun to explore the extra features on this phone so far, but I am extatic that is an even better then my old pm-8200 (which was probably my old favorite phone). This phone just looks great, and has a wonderful speaker phone. If you love pink as well, this is THE phone too get. It is a nice magenta hue and the buttons are all pink as well. The display is a decent size (much larger than my SCP-3100). The keypad is a lot more sensitive too (which is really nice).
I really cannot reccomend this phone enough. If you want a nice phone for a nice price ($199.99) I suggest purchasing the Sanyo 3200. You will not be disapointed.!
