Motorola EM330 Phone, Titanium (AT&T) Review

Motorola EM330 Phone, Titanium (ATandT)

After 4 months, my AT&T Motorola EM330 became stiff in the clamshell hinge. About 3 weeks later the hinge cracked upon opening and the upper part of the flip phone separated from the body at an angle on one side. I called in. During over one hour on the phone, AT&T customer service and warranty people maintained consistently that if the hinge cracked, I must have damaged it. I pointed out the phone showed no sign of external injury like dents or scratches and I never dropped it, although I do keep it in my front pants pocket and press the phone against my face while talking which stresses the hinge. Finally I convinced them that I had not abused the phone and they said they would replace it. But there was one more step in the process. The warranty service people had me remove the battery and look at the moisture indicator. It was pink indicating water exposure. I told them the phone had never been in the drink. They told me this could have occurred after being caught in the rain or answering the phone after stepping out of the shower. But regardless, the pink indicator voided the warranty and suddenly they would not replace the phone. They kindly offered to allow me to purchase a new phone at the regular price. How convenient!!! A little moisture indicator allows AT&T to avoid the responsibility of having sold a cheap, poorly made phone. The EM330 is not a clamshell phone. It's an eggshell phone. Based on other reports, BEWARE of AT&T and BEWARE the Motorola EM330.

The phone is also compatible with over-the-air downloads from AT&T Mobile Music (as well as eMusic Mobile and Napster Mobile subscription services). Other features include Bluetooth connectivity for handsfree devices and stereo music streaming, a 1.3-megapixel camera/camcorder, MicroSD memory expansion to 2 GB, and access to personal email and instant messaging.
AT&T Service This phone provides tri-band GSM coverage (850/1800/1900 MHz) for voice as well as GPRS/EDGE connectivity for receiving data. AT&T's EDGE network offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including music downloads, full picture messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.
You'll be able to access AT&T Mobile Music, which enables you to buy tracks while on the go, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what's playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what's hot with The Buzz music news portal.
The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more.
Phone Features The entry-level Motorola EM330 clamshell phone has a 1.8-inch internal screen with a 128 x 160-pixel resolution and support for 65K colors. It's complemented by an external monochrome screen on the flip, which displays current time, signal strength, battery life, and incoming calls as well as the current playing song. Additionally, you'll find LED music playback controls just below the screen. The phone has a small 20 MB internal memory, which can be expanded via optional MicroSD memory cards up to 2 GB in size. The internal phonebook can store up to 1000 contac entries, with multiple numbers per entry as well as support for caller groups and picture/ringer ID.

It also includes an integrated FM radio so you can keep up with your favorite talk shows and sporting events while on the go.
This Motorola phone includes the innovative CrystalTalk technology, which automatically accounts for background noise during a call and adjusts the audio quality based on ambient noise conditions to provide the optimal conversational experience. LG Chocolate Touch VX-8575 Phone (Verizon Wireless) Review

LG Chocolate Touch VX-8575 Phone (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am very hard to please, and I have owned two other LG msuic phones but didn't liked either of them. This phone is different: it is the best phone I've ever owned.
It has every feature I want in a phone, in a beautiful package that is very user-friendly.
- Great battery life
- Excellent sound quality
- Good speakerphone
- A 3.5mm audio jack
- FM radio
- Music player with a well-designed user interface
- Great photo and video viewer
- USB data cable included (!)
- The ability to plug-and-sync automatically, even with non-Rhapsody music players(!) such as Windows Media Player or MediaMonkey (which supports podcasts :)
- The ability to mount the USB card as a generic device for drag-and-drop support for ringtones, photos, music, videos... you name it.
And Verizon doesn't force you to buy a data plan for this phone, which I don't neeed.
All in all, a perfect phone for me.

Motorola RAZR V3i Unlocked Phone with Camera, MP3/Video Player, and MicroSD Slot--International Version with No Warranty (Silver/Gray) Review

Motorola RAZR V3i Unlocked Phone with Camera, MP3/Video Player, and MicroSD Slot--International Version with No Warranty (Silver/Gray)

(More customer reviews)
After my dreadful V551, I was hesitant to return to Motorola. Since my Sony Ericsson S710a didn't work out, and since my wife's V3 has been solid so far, I decided to give Moto one more chance with the V3i.
First, the build quality and materials are EXCELLENT. The machined aluminum outer casing, and machined nickel keypad, provide substantial heft (this is good) and tactility. Moto could've used a little better plastic in places, but it's fine otherwise.
Second, although its resolution is lower than the S710a's, the V3i inner display's physical screen size is about the same. Meaning it's plenty large, not to mention clear, colorful, and bright. The outer display is nothing special, but it is a compromise for better battery life, so I can live with that.
Third, unlike Sony Ericsson, the new Moto's (V3i, SLVR L7, etc.) sport an industry-standard mini-USB charging/data port, and use standard memory cards. (I put a 1GB TransFlash in mine and it is amazing.) No more proprietary chargers and cables, nor goofy Sony-only "Memory Sticks."
Fourth, the Bluetooth. Motorola has come a long way to improve their implementation, and though it is not as full featured as Sony Ericsson's, it is almost unshakable in its stability. (Sony Ericsson has the reverse trend. The T616 had great Bluetooth, the S710a's was unstable. The new W600 and W900 are equally unstable.) Range is excellent, too.
Fifth, reception and call quality are both excellent. Volume could be better, but is still adequate. I have to admit, though, that the S710a was slightly better with earpiece and speakerphone audio volume and quality.
Finally, the much maligned UI. Yes, Sony Ericsson trumps everyone with their interface and Address Book; Motorola executes both of these rather clumsily, thus requiring a steep learning curve. However, two areas where Moto outshines Sony Ericsson are 1) consistent UI responsiveness and 2) broad customizability.
My only other gripe is the 50 song limit in iTunes, even with the memory card upgrade. However, I'm an iPod owner, so this doesn't concern me too much.
Now for a word of warning to Mac users. My iTunes-equipped V3i, unlocked and unbranded, came from an overseas market (phone and manual languages included UK English, Vietnamese, Bhasat, and Thai). It has full Bluetooth functionality with my Mac, including iSync. However, some V3i's don't work over Bluetooth - the Mac can't "see" any of the phone's services, thus preventing file transfers or iSync-ability without a USB connection. I can't say for sure if this is related to iTunes or not, but so far it seems the iTunes-loaded V3i's work better. Caveat emptor!
