(More customer reviews)I have an unlocked V3i phone, and it works very well in the US with a national carrier. The unlocked phone concept is a little confusing though. In the other reviewer's case, if he had signed up with a carrier who offered a free phone, then moved the SIM card to the V3i, it would have worked.

You've probably seen the wildly popular Motorola RAZR V3 in someone's hand before. With the quad-band GSM RAZR V3i, Motorola has made it even better. The sexy design is still here, as is the all-metal construction. This time, though, the phone boasts an updated and streamlined design, enhanced video capture and playback capabilities, a 1.23 megapixel camera, and a hot-swappable MicroSD memory card slot. Plus, it's now available in beautiful purple.
Design At .55 inches thick, the RAZR V3i is virtually the same thickness as the original RAZR. And like the original RAZR, the phone's design takes the standard clamshell form factor to the next level with an impressive, fully-anodized aluminum construction. A large 176 x 220 color display with 262,000 colors dominates the inside of the top cover. The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary 96 x 80 full-color display that can display caller ID pictures, time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The 1.23 megapixel camera lens is housed above this display. Up/down buttons are placed on the left side for volume control.
Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad, which is precision cut from a single sheet of nickel-plated copper alloy. A mini-USB port is provided, which, while useful for fast data transfer, can also be used with compatible USB stereo headsets. Note that the phone does not have a standard 2.5mm headset jack.
Calling Features The RAZR V3i's internal phone book can hold up to 1000 contacts while the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. The phone also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. For times when you want to be discreet, there's a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear while voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. Speaker-independent technology allows any speaker to dial numbers with the voice dialing system. And because the RAZR V3i is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools The RAZR V3i is a messaging and wireless Internet powerhouse. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, sound and video via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. There's also a built-in web browser for mobile Web downloads and browsing via your carrier's GPRS-based data service. If you need email on the go, the V3i comes with an email client that supports IMAP, POP3, and SMTP email standards. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the RAZR V3i including a calculator with currency converter, a calendar and an alarm clock. The phone can also be used with Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools PC application to manage and synchronize contacts, calendar and other data with your PC.
Imaging and Entertainment The V3i's 1.23 megapixel camera bridges the gap between phones and quality digital cameras. The digital zoom-enabled camera is also designed to capture video. You can even print your shots on a Bluetooth-enabled printer. Embedded animated screensavers and full screen wallpapers are built-in so you can set up the RAZR V3i to suit your tastes. The phone supports games, as well as gaming connectivity via Bluetooth.
Vital Statistics The Motorola RAZR V3i weighs 3.53 ounces and measures 3.86 x 2.09 x .55 inches. (More customer reviews)This phone has everything! It's great and fashionable! It's a little ticker than the V3 or V3i but for the new features it's worthed. Still very slim. Huge, colorfull and clear screen and a great 2MP digital camera (not as good as the SonyEricsson ones - my sister has a W900i with a 2MP camera that takes much better pictures than my V3x). But I prefer the size, since the w900i is bigger and bulkier than the razor V3x.
I have my V3x for 2 months now and I didn't find any CONS yet.

The Motorola RAZR V3 was a raging success, thanks to its slim, groundbreaking design and powerful features. But now it's time for a new RAZR, one with even more power and features. The newest RAZR, the V3x, promises to be just as sensational as its predecessor, thanks to a 2-megapixel camera, a supplementary camera for video calls, a microSD card slot, a massive screen, and lots more. If you have to have the coolest, most cutting edge phone, here it is.
Design The RAZR V3x's design borrows heavily from it's predecessor, and from a distance you'd be hard pressed to tell the two apart. You get the same impressive, anodized aluminum construction, and an external 96 x 80 full color display that can display pictures, time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. Above this display, though, you'll find a big addition: a 2-megapixel camera.
Inside the flip, the main display has been upgraded to a massive 320 x 240 pixels with 262,000 colors. There's also a supplementary VGA camera below the display for capturing your face when you make video calls, as well as a wide or macro switch for controlling the camera's field of view. (More customer reviews)Note: I am transitioning from using the Sony Ericsson P910i smartphone so my review is based on how well the w710i's features work in comparison. I purchased this because I go to remote areas and the P910i needs heavy bandwidth in order for the phone to function. My son's Z500 would work in areas my p910i would not. Review is based on 1 week of usage.
I've also purchased the z710i for my son and will review that one later.

*Ability to set up phone in non-english languages
*Ability to buy an international SIM card to avoid extra fees

*Can double as a modem via bluetooth or usb cable (if you don't have unlimited internet package be very careful as they charge big $$$)
*FM radio - reception is so-so in the downtown area

*Edge technology - my p10i did not have this. I can download email extremely quickly now!!!

Neutral:
*The international charger with an adapter for US outlets. It is very wobbly in the outlet. I'll invest in a US version.
*Inability to sync with any computer using Windows Vista (I'm sure a workaround is coming)
*I haven't used the armband yet but it may improve the stepcounter's accuracy.
*Others have warned about holdling the phone and interferring with the antenna, I haven't had a problem with this.
*Over-the-ear earbuds don't fall out!
Weaknesses:
*Since I have other Sony phones, I am disappointed that they have changed the shape of the connection for the sync and charger. Translation, you can no longer use the current chargers of the previous generation phones.
*There is no way to charge the phone and use the wired headset. You either listen to the radio or charge the phone.
* You can not use the standard over-the-counter headsets because there is no outlet for it.
*Need to switch settings to view more than one email account
*Yet another memory card format (micro)another adapter needed
*Memory card only 512mb (can purchase 1 or 2gb)
*picture caller id only works after you open the phone (edit March 21,2007 - if you have answer on open set)I purchased my W710i from an internet company for $254.00 and it was shipped directly from Hong Kong in 2 business days. I'm unsure if I can provide their name here.
Overall: Sony has always produced quality products. I love this phone and it is a very good comparison to a SmartPhone. I do miss using my styllus. If you don't need the bells and whistles of a smartphone, go for the Z710i as it is a bit cheaper but a great contender.If I could rate it more than 5 stars, I would even though I haven't tried all of the features of this phone. Buy it without hesitation!
ADDENDUM March 5, 2007
I dropped the phone on a tiled bathroom floor. When it hit, the clip, battery cover and battery scattered in different directions on the floor. Amazingly, the phone still operates. The damage is a barely noticeable mark on the upper left of the phone. A mark like that could happen in my purse!
I am really impressed now but hope I never do that again!
