(More customer reviews)I'm on my second week of Beta OS 5, and this should effectively kill all the silly complaining about what this phone "wont do." A night and day improvement, and not much need to jailbreak your phone anymore. All the details are on Apple's website, and according to most sources this new OS will be available to the general public this fall.
Below is my review of the 16GB model that I purchased in September. Please note that this is strictly my opinion of the phone itself, I have no knowledge of this seller or the condition of the phones they sell. A word or advice however, if you're considering buying from this seller you need to contact them first to get details on the phone, warranty, and whats provided.
I had the 8GB 3G model and thought that was great, until I got a demo of the iPhone 4. Man is this version is light years ahead of the original model.
With a 1Ghz CPU, and 16GB of flash memory, this thing is a portable office/entertainment center par excellence. I've had this phone for 3 months without a single problem, the display is nice and sharp, the apps load very fast, and I now have over 130 apps to perform just about every duty you could possibly think of with absolutely no impact on performance. And on the AT&T 3G network, I average download speeds of around 1.8Mbps, and over 1M upload speeds....and how do I know that, cause I got an app that tells me that's how. BTW, the display is the equivalent of a 960x640 on your desktop (double the 3G model) so what you see is essentially a high res yield and page loads are superfast. And resident memory, after a full days use I just checked and still had 120Mb of Ram available. On the 3G model that number was usually down around 4Mb by the end of the work day and had to be refreshed.
I was in the design/manufacturing business for 20 years, and this is by far the most amazing piece of technology I have ever seen or imagined. Even the battery life is 3x better than the previous model, and thats a good thing cause its integrated but a full charge should yield and entire days work of calls, emails, surfing the web, SMS messaging, and play. I no longer need my laptop cause there's nothing I cant do with the iPhone, and that includes sending faxes, editing Excel or Word documents, and even printing. A flash for the 5MP camera, an HD video camera, and even real time video conferencing over a wireless network, and Bluetooth that unlike the 3G model is actually compatible with everything you throw at it, including Garmin GPS....just amazing. This thing even has 2 mics with noise suppression so calls are clearer on the other end. Man, Apple hit this one out of the park.
BTW, with all the apps, music, and videos I've got loaded on this thing I've still got 10GB of flash memory remaining. I cant imagine why anybody would need more storage, and the 32GB model isn't any faster and doesn't have any more features. You'll need iTunes on your desktop to get the most out of this phone and iTunes can be a little intimidating at first but its worth the trouble, and all the instruction you need can be found on the web or Youtube for transferring photos, videos, music, apps, etc.
Update 12/09/10: I've been reading up on the "antenna problem" with the iPhone 4G and have this to say.... It is easily cured by slapping on a hard case or shell on the phone, which eliminates the issue I see some people complaining about. I have personally never experienced this issue because I left the AT&T store with a protective shell on my phone which virtually everybody I've ever seen with an iPhone has anyway. Very simply you CANNOT replicate the reported "death grip" problem with a shell or bumper around the outer frame. Cant be done. And BTW, I don't know if its due to network improvements or what but lately I'm getting 3Mbps+ download speeds so if anything I'm happier with my purchase now than I was 4 months ago. Zero complaints, and that's something most smartphone users of other OEM products can't say.
A final word: Beware negative reviews scattered about Amazon that are filled with bad English and are authored by individuals who have written only one review (on the iPhone) and posted it in several locations on Amazon's site. Its easy to pick these out, and they have no doubt been written by the same person.
Oh wait, I do have one complaint about the iPhone 4. Several times a month my girlfriend gets mad at me and hangs up in the middle of the conversation so I guess I'm suffering from this "dropped call" thing after all. haw haw

Pros:
1. Great design
2. Very good quality images and video (from main camera, and not so bad from the front one)
3. Great sound (with and without headphones)
4. The best screen you'll gonna find. Bright colors, best resolution
5. Thousands of applications
6. If you have an iPad and/or a Mac this phone is the best choice to keep all your data synchronized, and a full wireless access
Cons:
1. Firsts days, the battery life was a bad issue, but then I found that there is a service called "ping" that you can unactivate, and the battery life increased 90% (some days I even don't charge my phone overnight, and next day I still have 60% of battery)
2. High price, but it worth it
3. Sometimes I wish it would have a full qwerty keyboard, but right now I feel very comfortable with virtual keyboard
Important: There is no "antenna gate" issue with my phone

Apparently this phone from Worldwide Distributors is LOCKED, according to other reviewers on Amazon. If you plan to use this phone outside AT&T's network you may have a problem. A word of advise is to contact these sellers with all your questions re: status of the phone, new or refurbs, return policy, warranty, etc before buying. Apple iPhone 4G 16GB Quadband World GSM Phone (Manufacturer Unlocked) Review

(More customer reviews)For the last 2 years I have been carrying a cell phone, an iPad Touch, an iPad Shuffle, and (when I thought I would need it) a camera. I was waiting for a device that would do it all in one, but without forcing me into an unwanted 2-year cell phone contract (I use an AT&T prepaid GoPhone account). The iPhone 4 is that device. For the most part, I adore my new iPhone. Only the substandard built-in software keeps it from being a 5-star product, IMHO. More on that later.
When I was reading reviews before my purchase I wanted to know if "factory unlocked" really meant what it said. Yes, I would have to say that it does. This was clearly a brand-new phone in factory packaging, not a phone that had been unlocked illegally. On the down side, because it had been packaged for the UK market, it came with a British-style plug on the wall charger! This didn't matter to me because I always charge my device from my computer, but the vendor should have mentioned it.
The important part was whether it was really mine to do with as I pleased. I took the AT&T SIM card out of my old Motorola phone, cut it down to size with a SIM cutter, and popped it into the iPhone. When connected to a computer running iTunes, the phone immediately started working with my same old phone number. It was that simple.
So now I have a $750 phone with a $100/year prepaid phone plan. But that's not as silly as it sounds, because I also have the following:
1) The world's best PDA. The high-resolution screen is so beautiful that I just want to sit and stare at it. The built-in apps are pretty lame, but the unbelievable bounty that is the iTunes app store more than makes up for that.
2) An astoundingly good camera. At 5MPs I expected it to be barely adequate as a camera, but I think it takes better pictures than my 10MPs point-and-shoot. Whatever it uses for a light meter is miles ahead of any camera I have ever owned. It takes the best low-light pictures I have ever seen, and when the flash IS needed it is never too bright. I love being able to operate the flash control, auto-focus point, and digital zoom right on the touch screen. The HDR feature is subtle, but amazing. And the 3rd-party apps (many of them free) - just SOOO much fun. This is not a professional quality camera, of course, but it just might be all the casual camera you will ever need.
3) An Internet connection device. Because I don't have a real phone plan, I mostly use wi-fi for my networking needs. But I also have a limited 3G data plan as a backup if I'm not in wifi range. Getting a prepaid data plan to work is a little tricky. You have to set the APN, and neither AT&T nor Apple will tell you how to do this. It's easy, though - just google it.
4) An OK music machine. It works as well as any iPod, but at 16GB it doesn't have the capacity to hold my whole music collection. If I'm just going to load music temporarily for on-the-go use I prefer my little Shuffle. If there were some way to pause the music on the iPhone with a single button press I would find it much more usable as an iPod.
5) An adequate phone. Honestly, the weakest function on the iPhone is the phone. The shape is awkward for a telephone and the sound is nothing to brag about. On the other hand, I have not had any problems with dropped calls or weak signal. I like the big lighted virtual buttons, and the fact that it integrates with my main address book. Mainly, as an infrequent cell phone user at best, I like the fact that I have a cell phone if I need it without having to carry an additional device.
6) A bright, directional LED flashlight. The LED bulb used for the new camera flash also works as a nifty little flashlight! How cool is that? Apple did not see fit to include a flashlight app as a built-in, so the first thing the new user should do is download the excellent free iLED Flashlight app.
7) A surprisingly effective eBook reader. Sure the screen is small but the resolution is so exquisite that you really can read on it. I read "Moby Dick" on my iTouch, and the screen resolution is even better on this device.
Downside - the built in apps are TERRIBLE. The contacts manager, notepad and calendar are primitive. There is no standard way to backup/restore application data, even for built-in apps. The built-in photo manager is jaw-droppingly bad. All pictures taken with the iPhone camera go into one huge folder called "Camera Roll." They can't be moved into sub-folders, renamed, sorted, or rotated if the orientation ends up backwards (which occasionally happens). And what excuse can there be for not including a flashlight app to go with the new LED light?
Fortunately, I had been through this with my iTouch, so I already had a nice set of apps for managing lists, contacts, appointments, recipes and so on. However, it took me a couple of weeks of experimentation and research, plus a small outlay of money for paid apps, to turn the magnificent iPhone4 camera hardware into a device that really can be used as a camera substitute. In short, the iPhone 4 is a device that is good but not great right out of the box. But if you are willing and able to spend a little time installing apps, it can be massively customized to make it the best electronic friend you ever had.

(More customer reviews)First of all, I've been using android since 1.5 (HTC Magic) til 2.2 (HTC Desire). Yes, I had Magic and Desire. Main issue i had with Android is terrible battery life! With magic, battery usually would last for 2 days tops, and thats with few calls, a bit of web browsing, and maybe 2 hrs of music. Than i Decided to go and buy HTC Desire. Terrible decision! I had to charge it every second day,and thats with 2-3 calls a day(duration 2-3 mins per call) and a bit of web browsing.If u decide to listen to music or radio, battery would drain in hours!!! Thats what annoyed me the most, i had to carry around car charger and charge the phone, i got to stage where i was scared to make phone call or battery would die on me.And thats not just me, everyone who had Desire experienced same. Dont get me wrong, Android is really good system, but it's biggest downside is battery life. After I sold my Desire, i decided to get this Nokia, since i liked curvy design, 8Mpix camera, and HD Video recording.After i got it, i decided to do battery test, and WOW! I was blown away! After 2 days, i made some calls, more than on desire,received some calls,listened to music for about half hour, battery is still full! I couldn't believe it! Not even a line has discharged!!! And thats two days!!! By now I'd be charging Desire! Camera is really good, takes really nice pics, but HD Video recording is AWESOME! What Nokia needs to do is upgrade OVI Store, since it looks kinda ugly. Considering phone, get it, you wont be disappointed! 5 stars for this phone! It's a keeper :D

iPhone 4 Black 16GB (Verizon) Review

(More customer reviews)I picked up the Verizon iPhone 4 on its release date and am very pleased with its performance so far. Previously, I used a Droid Incredible, which was also a great phone.
To preface this review, I am a light to moderate user that mostly uses the device for making phone calls, texting, checking email, and occasionally using internet and maps. I'm not the type to sit around for hours playing games on my phone, nor have I ever streamed any video on my phone. I have one "official" app on my iPhone that is related to the camera, and I don't use it to listen to music; I have a separate iPod for that (to save my phone's battery).
The Verizon iPhone works great as a phone and has the best call quality in a smartphone that I have ever used. This is in comparison to my previous Droid Incredible, a Blackberry Curve prior to that, and my friend's Motorola Droid. The earpiece volume is crisp and sufficiently loud, making the other person easy to hear. The microphone works well too based on what people I call tell me. The visual voicemail system is phenomenal- it's all managed by the phone itself instead of through Verizon, so when a person gets your voicemail message, all they hear is your personalized recording without the "at the tone, please record your message. When you are finished recording..." garbage.
Texting and email work nicely. The touch keyboard feels more natural than most other touch screens I've used on other mobile operating systems. One strange thing about texts is that the phone will make a "whoooop" noise everytime you send a text. There's no way to turn this sound off by itself without putting the entire phone in silent mode. Not a big deal for me, but I can see how this would really annoy some people.
Based on my personal experience and all the reviews floating around online, the camera is without question the highest quality camera you will find on any phone today because of an ideal blend of lens quality, the type of sensor, and a modest megapixel count. Higher megapixels do not correlate with higher quality images; although there are many other phones out there in the 8+ megapixel range, none match the overall image quality of the iPhone. The 8 MP camera on my Droid Incredible doesn't even come close.
One thing I really miss from the Android OS is Google Navigation. No turn-by-turn voice guided navigation software comes with the iPhone. Apps are available that provide this feature, but they are inferior to Google's program.
Battery life is excellent for this type of phone. Most days with light to moderate use from 7 AM to midnight, I end the day with around 80% battery remaining. Obviously, if you're a power user, it's gonna use more juice. I'm particularly impressed with how little battery is used when the phone is on standby. Battery life was my biggest gripe about Android (HTC phones tend to be notoriously bad at battery conservation), and it is a huge relief to not have to carry around a spare battery anymore.
If you're considering converting to Apple from an Android phone, there are a few areas of frustration. The notification system on the iPhone is archaic and unnecessarily intrusive. Texts will pop up on the screen regardless of whatever you're doing, requiring you to exit whatever you're in the middle of to reply. Android's notification system is excellent, and I am hoping this issue will be addressed in a later version of iOS. Also, there is very little flexibility as far as how the phone is personalized to your tastes. Not happy with the 6 text tones that Apple gives you? Too bad- you're stuck. There's no easy way to add more text tones. A third issue- when using Safari mobile, there is no way to disable mobile view. Sites like yahoo and banking sites will automatically funnel you to the mobile (crippled) version of their websites. In Android, all you do is check a box to disable mobile view. No such luck with iOS.
Fortunately, there is a way around all of the above restrictions, provided you're a moderately intelligent person with a basic knowledge of computers. This and any iPhone can be easily modified to fix all the problems I mentioned- just search online for instructions.
The back glass plate seems to be fairly prone to collecting light scratches. I had my last phone for 10 months with no case and no screen protector the entire time, and it never got a single scratch. Since noticing the tiny scratches on the back of my iPhone, I bought a minimalistic case for it, and it's been fine since then. Still no scratches on the front glass in 5 weeks of use so far, so I have no plans to ever use a screen protector.
One last thing I'll mention: there is not a single piece of Verizon bloatware on this phone, unlike every other smartphone I've owned that came installed with all the crap applications loaded on by the carrier that you can't remove.
There are lots of good phones out there right now. In my opinion, this one is the most polished, and despite some limitations, it provides the most satisfying overall user experience that is yet to be matched. Highly recommended.
