Nokia C3-01 Unlocked Touch and Type GSM Phone--U.S. Version with Warranty (Silver) Review

UPDATE! I had one of the first reviews for this phone, (maybe the first?) on Amazon and I can no longer recommend this phone for US customers. No US GSM carrier has sold this phone so Nokia has apparently decided it is not worth supporting in the US. They have some way of identifying the hardware and the new firmware is not available or downloadable through their software application. They have not only added features but according to release notes they have added bug fixes. Great, now I know I have a phone with software bugs that will never be fixed. My phone is also dropping calls indoors where I have never had problems with previous phones. I wonder if that is one of the bug fixes.
I tried to open a ticket with Nokia customer support, this was my response from May 3rd.
Thank you for contacting Nokia.
You will be receiving a reply from one of our Customer Care Representatives at the earliest.
Have a good day.
It's June 9th, haven't heard a thing. Nice way to treat your customers.
I had to replace the phone on my ATT plan ( Nokia Mural ) because the battery life was horrible, it dropped calls, would not receive calls and the menu navigation was awful.
I am not interested in a smart phone. My top priorities are battery life, call quality and ease of use. I could also care less about a camera in a phone. I also carry my phone in my pocket so the size and shape of this phone is important. For the 2 weeks I have owned this phone it has met all of these criteria. I went 3 days before the first charge and that was after playing with all the phones features like WLAN, bluetooth camera and media player and I still had battery left. The call quality is superb, people talking to me on the other end have also noticed the difference, no dropped callls so far. The ring volume is EXCELLENT! The main screen and goto menus are totally customizable so if you don't find this phone easy to use it is your own fault. The resistive touch makes navigation easy. The screen is also very clear and the picture quality is excellent. Texting uses the traditional key pad and utilizes the touch feature for special charachters. This phone is thin and the back is rounded so it carries well in my pocket, sometimes I forget it is there.
Now for the extra features. The camera takes pretty awful pictures but I find that true with most phones. Flash photography on this thing produces incredibly washed out colors. I the WLAN feature is great!, the default browser is very poor but it also comes with Opera Mini web browser pre-installed and that works surprisingly well. This does not surf the web as well as a "smart" phone but it is certainly tolerable. One of my favorite features is the * button can be held down for 3 seconds to turn on the camera flash for a flashlight. Love it! So far the software support from Nokia is poor because the phone is so new. There is no ActiveSync which I think is true for most phone. SUPL location, which uses tower triangulation to find your location, is available but I have not found an app that it works with yet. The java google maps does not support the touch screen. It comes with a built in mail app which support gmail. The is no plugin yet for Apple iSync. Hopefully there will be better software choices the longer this phone is out. The music player is relatively good, decent sound and a regular sized headphone jack is awesome. I also appreciate the ability to charge with both the Nokia barrel charger and micro usb.
I own an ipod touch which senses electrical conductivity, this phone differs in that it uses resistive touch which senses pressure. It is not as sensitive but has the advantage of not exposing a glass surface ( possibly more durable ) and you could still use it with gloves on. Once you get use to using the touch on this phone it goes smooth. It seems to work best with your thumb.
I would recommend this phone to anyone who likes to use their phone as a phone.

Nokia 6700 Classic Black 5 Mp Camera, International 3g --International Version with No Warranty Review

After owning the debacle that is the NoKia N97 for several months, I felt a longing to return to simpler, easier to use and more reliable but feature rich handsets that Nokia used to be very well known for, and were actually pretty good at making. Remember that word 'reliable' for now, as I'll come back to it. But basically, every time I had to pull out the heavy, bulky, temperamental N97 from my pocket, and wait for its glitchy, lazy software to figure out what I was trying to do at that moment in time, I became more and more resentful of it and realized that sometimes, "smart phones" are anything but. I longed for the simplicity and beauty of Nokia's 6230,or 6230i, or 6233 days, when phones did everything you could want them for and didn't require several Phds to operate. In my search, I came to rest upon the Nokia 6700 classic.
I'll confess - I was hooked almost from the fist look. It's stainless steel body, it's cool, classy candbybar form with rounded edges and its simple, yet striking front plate communicated a seriousness and promised a robust, straightforward experience. A quick glance through the feature list and I was hooked. I had to have it. I had dreams of abandoning my N97 to my underwear drawer, possibly only to be liberated in times of desperate need when a back-up handset might be helpful for a trip, but determined not to sell it to anyone, as I knew in my soul, I could not wish the N97 disaster on my own worst enemy. In one amazing spec sheet, Nokia had promised redemption and I was eager to give it to them.
To be fair, I was warned. Even though I had committed to buying, I raked the internet for reviews. "Temperamental" they warned. "Unreliable" they screamed! "Daft" they exclaimed. I read them all but was unmoved - mine would be the exception, rather than the rule. Mine would defy the expectations, and work well without glitch or incident, for after all, this was Nokia, and Nokia could not let me down so utterly, in such quick succession, with two different products... not me; a fervant, loyal, reliable supporter and purchaser of their products for the last 10 years, without interruption...
I've owned the phone for less than three months, and here's the facts: before it just stopped working, the phone would get impossibly hot during phone calls using the headset. It would routinely drop calls for no discernable reason, headset on or not, and when it was offended by your reaction to it doing so, would actually turn itself OFF during phone calls to drive the point home. The phone doesn't have a 3.5mm jack (which I knew when I bought it) so is not terribly good for listening to music or plugging into a car radio, and for reasons which shall always escape me but which shall likely fascinate me to the point of distraction till the day I die, Nokia made it so that the radio could not be played over the loudspeaker!!!!
So, you can't play the radio over the loudspeaker.... and it doesn't work very well, for MAKING PHONE CALLS!!!!
Oh, Nokia, my once beloved Nokia, whyfore art thou a hopeless gaggle of idiot savants and social maladajusts? Where hast your dependability gone? Why hast your basic five-year-old-knows-better-by-now-common-good-sense abandoned thee?
Then, about a month ago, it just turned off, and hasn't come back on since. Despite everything I've tried. And tried. And tried. And keep trying... sigh.
So then, the worst insult of all - reluctantly, and with a heavy-heartedness such as I have not felt since, well, watching Episode 1 for the first time, I reopened my underwear drawer... and had to go back to my N97! Oh, the humanity.
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE, AND IF IT'S GIVEN TO YOU, THE PERSON WHO DOES SO DOESN'T LIKE YOU! I've given it one star because Amazon will not permit me to give it less!
DO.NOT.BUY.THIS.PHONE! DO.NOT.ACCEPT.IT.AS.A.GIFT. STAY WELL CLEAR!

Nokia X3-02 Quad-Band & Quad-Band 3G Unlocked Review

I have been a long time Nokia user but have been turned off by their latest models but this one made up for it. The Nokia X3-02 is perfect for those who are still avoiding the Smartphone / PDA / Blackberry / iPhone / Android craze (VIVA LE REVOLUCION). It has a nice little touch screen that comes with a full touch QWERTY keypad. You can use a stylus (not included) with it which I recommend since the screen is smaller than other touch screens. The resolution is great and sound is near perfect. The Bluetooth functionality is a little spotty, it disconnects from my car's bluetooth link up randomly but works perfectly on my Jawbone bluetooth earpiece. Configuring the SMS and Web functionality was a bit confusing but the WiFi function makes up for that. You can be within an open WiFi singal and connect without having to go through your Network provider which is a major plus.
