Casio G'zOne Type S Phone (Verizon Wireless, Phone Only, No Service) Review

Casio G'zOne Type S Phone (Verizon Wireless, Phone Only, No Service)

I was looking for a durable flip phone sans the superfluous frills which I never use. I needed something reliable with excellent "send and receive" calling quality. This unit is larger and feels sturdier than most of its genre. Its relatively bigger buttons and and overall hefty profile were the first features that caught my eye. For an indiivudal like myself with larger hands that often holds my phone in the neck-twisting, hands-free head/shoulder crunch mode, the extra size of this model is an asset. I don't have a case and keep the phone in my pants pocket. So far it has endured this manner of travel. Good bi-directional audio quality and a nice loud ring which I prefer. One drawback...forget about the reading the screen in direct sunlight. The interface is Verizon Du Jour and if you like toying with extra features there's plenty to keep you busy. Barring the screen issue this is a phone I highly recommend.

Ruggedized to military standards, the super-tough Casio G'zOne Type S clamshell phone is able to withstand the penetrating elements of rain, humidity and even submersion in water. It's also shock resistant and its dust-resistant keyboard will stay fully operational even in swirling sandstorms (see more about testing standards below). This dual-band phone runs on Verizon's 800/1900 MHz CDMA network, which offers access to Verizon's Get It Now virtual store (for downloads of games, ringtones, wallpapers and more) and VZ Navigator for audible maps, turn-by-turn directions and location information. Other features include a VGA camera with flash, video capture capability, Bluetoooth connectivity for communication headsets and data transfer, speakerphone, and voice activated dialing.
Built tough, the G'zOne Type S has a clamshell design that's set within a protective bed of silicon rubber and surrounded on the outside by a sturdy frame of reinforced plastic coated with polyurethane. The G'zOne Type S is also one of the first cell phones to be able to withstand blowing rain, high humidity, and immersion underwater for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter (with ports closed) thanks to the handset's construction with unique screws, water-resistant filters and O-ring combinations.
Underneath the clamshell, the G'zOne Type S has a 1.8-inch color TFT screen (176 x 220-pixel resolution) with support for 65K colors. The outside features a supplementary monochrome LCD screen that can display incoming call information, battery life, signal strength, current date and time, stopwatch functions, and more. The protected camera lens and LED flash (which also doubles as a flashlight) reside on the front cover, just above the external display, while up/down volume controls and a camera control button are on the right side of the phone. On the back, the battery cover has a locking mechanism that can be secured before taking the phone into watery conditions.
The built in memory provides room for up to 500 contact entries in the phone's address book. A voice dialing feature makes calling friends and associates as easy as saying their names, while the built-in speakerphone allows you to talk handsfree. The phone also comes with built-in polyphonic ringtones and a vibrating alert, and more ringtones can be downloaded via Verizon's Get It Now service. Ringtones can be assigned to specific callers so you don't have to look at the phone to know who's calling, or you can match pictures with callers to identify them. It also ships with a number of handy tools including a calendar, notepad, alarm clock, world clock, calculator, countdown timer, and stopwatch.
For snapping photos on the go, the G'zOne Type S is equipped with a VGA camera that includes a 2x digital zoom and integrated flash. You can shoot images in one of three resolutions (640 x 480, 320 x 240, and 120 x 160 pixels), and the camera lets you control settings for brightness, white balance, and three color effects. It provides a self-timer of up to 10 seconds for self-portraits, and you can turn the shutter sound on or off. Additionally, you can capture video clips in QCIF resolution (176 x 144 pixels) up to 15 seconds in length, and you can use the flash as a recording light.
This phone provides Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, and handsfree car kits. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. Additionally, you can connect your laptop and enjoy dial-up networking (DUN)--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server--using using the G'zOne Type S as your modem.
For messaging, the G'zOne Type S provides support for text messaging (SMS), enhanced messaging service (EMS) for sending audio files, multimedia messaging (MMS) for sending pictures and video, and IM chatting. The phone is also Mobile Web 2.0 capable, which offers customizable, enhanced wireless access to the latest in news, sports, weather and more (subscription charges apply).
The G'zOne Type S comes standard with a location-enabled e911 feature for emergency situations. Activate Verizon's monthly VZ Navigator service and you'll have all the benefits of advanced GPS technology at your fingertips: heads-up alerts, voice-prompted rutn-by-turn directions, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US, and detailed color maps.
Military Standards Testing The GÕzOne Type-S passed all of the following tests, performed in accordance with Military Standards 810F, with all ports (battery, headset and charging) on the phone closed:
The Water Resistance test was performed in accordance with Method 506.4, Procedure I. The GÕzOne Type-S was subjected to this test with the handset open and closed, but with ports closed for 30 minutes on the front of the unit and then 30 minutes on the back of the unit. The test was designed to simulate rainfall of 2 inches per hour with a 40 MPH wind. Result: The GÕzOne Type-S showed no visible evidence of damage or deterioration caused by testing.
The Humidity test was performed in accordance with Method 507.4. The GÕzOne Type-S tested for operation after the conclusion of the tenth cycle. Each cycle was 24 hours and the entire test was performed over ten days. The temperature was cycled between 86 and 140°F with the relative humidity at 95 percent constant. Result: The GÕzOne Type-S showed no visible evidence of damage or deterioration caused by testing.
The Drop test was performed in accordance with Method 516.5, Procedure IV. The GÕzOne Type-S was sequentially dropped in non-operating mode, onto each face, edge and corner for a total of 26 drops from a height of 1.50 meters (4.9 feet). The drop surface was defined as two-inch-thick plywood over a steel plate over concrete. Result: The GÕzOne Type-S powered on.
The Dust Resistance test was performed in accordance with Method 510.4, Procedure I. A temperature of 95°F was used for this test. Silica flour as defined by the test standard was used. Devices are given a passing grade when moving parts are not bound or blocked and if the unit powers on. Result: The GÕzOne Type-S showed no visible evidence of damage or deterioration.
The Immersion test was conducted in accordance with Method 512.4, Procedure 1, with the handset immersed in water for a period of 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter with ports closed. Result: The GÕzOnesuccessfully powered on with no visible evidence of damage or deterioration.

Motorola Tundra VA76r - Cellular phone - 3G - WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM - folder (flip) - AT&T Review

Motorola Tundra VA76r - Cellular phone - 3G - WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM - folder (flip) - ATandT

The Motorola Tundra is a great phone! It's been 4 months in my possession now and has seen some tough times, including putting me through the most embarrassing situation of my life. I work as an IT Manager and required a cell phone that would take a licking and keep on ticking. I brought the Tundra with a clip-on holder for the phone and my thinking at the time was quick access instead of a leather case that would wear down in no time.
The Tundra has fallen many times in the short 4 months and in one case while passing between two people, one was holding her door open with her elbow sticking out. The Antenna on the Tundra somehow managed to hook on her elbow and fall out of the holder. I should have simply let the phone fall to the ground instead of trying to prevent it from falling, to the ground. I honestly don't know how I managed to grab a hold of this woman's ass three, or four times in the process of trying to catch my phone mid-air. Clearly, I was red with embarrassment and I could see she felt sorry for me and now I don't have to be on that show, "I Shouldn't Be Alive!"
The Tundra's software, though basic is very well thought out and easily allows you to select the desired functions without needing to guess at the next step.
The Tundra is hard pressed to loose signal and I have never missed a call. In Network Settings, the Tundra allows you to turn on Service Tone which alerts you when the phone has either lost signal and regained signal.
The Tundra also allows you to set up to three different Alarms with very flexible parameters, including days of the week, weekends, etc.
The Tundra's contact address book is not at all disappointing and gives you the ability to enter a wealth of information on your contacts while integrating itself very well with both incoming, outgoing and missed calls.
Now, while my colleagues point, laugh, and joke about how I have to find a corner to answer my phone, I'm comfortable with the idea that the Tundra accepts and knows it's primary function is to be a Cell Phone and a tough one at that. I'm down with that.

It's not smart phone, but awsome phone to carry around without worrying about the battery life or freeze up. The phone is light and very good looking. The battery lasts about a week on standby, and the call quality is very good. I live around "dead zone", and only verizon works where I live, but this phone has good reception. Highly recommended.

Casio C711 G'zOne Boulder Cell Phone Review

Casio C711 G'zOne Boulder Cell Phone
Average Reviews:

Phone looked great, charged fine, powered on fine. Took it to Verizon to activate it and they worked on it 2 hours, finally determining that it was unuseable, saying that someone had wiped out the whole memory and it was not ever going to be a usable phone. Was supposed to be a refurbished phone, unlocked, ready to activate. Sending it back. Also could not find ANYWHERE a phone number to the OEM Shop to ask questions. Amazon was wonderful, of course, as they fulfilled the order thru this 3rd party OEM shop. Thank goodness I went thru Amazon and not directly through OEM, so Amazon even pays return shipping.

EVERYTHING WORKS JUST FINE. ONE FUNNY THING: WHEN I ACTIVATED THE PHONE WITH VERIZON, ON THEIR WEBSITE IT STATED "NON CAMERA" BUT IN FACT IT DOES AND DOWNLOADS JUST WENT OK TO THE VZW ONLINE ALBUM. I BOUGHT IT FOR 10 YEAR OLD GRANDSON SINCE HE WANTED ONE LIKE MINE. FUMBLE-FINGERED ANNE, WHO DROPS CELLS, ABSCONDED GRANDSON'S. NOW I HAVE ANOTHER USED ONE ON ORDER-ORANGE-TO CELEBRATE THE TN VOLS. SINCE OLDER PHONES HAVE LIMITATIONS W/ TEXTING, I PERSONALLY USE THE ONLINE SERVICE.
MIGHT ADD THAT A PERSON IS WISE TO STICK W/ AMAZON. I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM W/ THEM BUT TWO ISSUES IN THE PAST W/ EBAY!-JOHNNY

MW09 Watch Cell Phone ~ unlocked~ Quad-band Review

MW09 Watch Cell Phone ~ unlocked~ Quad-band
Average Reviews:

I bought and returned this item. Since I didn't find my detailed reviews, I would like to share my opinion about this watch:
It looks bulky, and cheap (it is cheap), I thought I can use it to replace my phone when I want to go for a short walk (or if I don't to put something in my pocket). The voice of the phone speakers is not that loud, but it's ok. I was planning to use the Bluetooth headset. However, the one that came with it didn't work.. and when I used the one I had (Plantronics, which works great) the sound quality was bad and the voice kept breaking. It was also hard to keep it paired to the phone the whole time.
The UI of the watch is a bit strange, the icons they chose where difficult to understand.. but that might be something you can get used to. Didn't keep it long to test the battery life, and didn't plug it into the computer.. two problems that I heard about. I only tested it for an hour, and it didn't do what I needed it to.
The concept is good, but not the design or the implementation. I believe LG would be a better (more expensive) choice. Don't hate, I just wanted to share my actual experience.

Casio GzOne Type-S Cell Phone for Verizon Wireless - Refurbished in Blue - No Contract Required Review

This is a refurbished phone, Verizon said they could not get it to work, it powered up, and supposedly the program loaded, but when I dialed a number, it would power off. I went on-line, and set it up myself, no issues, it worked perfectly.
This is not a feature rich phone, it's a work horse. It's made to take a beating and keep on ticking. If that is what you are looking for, this is the phone for you.

Casio C711 G'zOne Boulder Cell Phone Orange Review

Casio C711 G'zOne Boulder Cell Phone Orange
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am really hard on my phones and I live in a place where getting reception isn't the best. This phone is perfect for someone who wants to take their phone with them EVERYWHERE, literally. I have had Verizon phones that I thought I had purchased extended type warranties for BUT NO. Water damage (MORE LIKELY HUMIDITY DAMAGE) IS NOT COVERED. Finally after I had had enough cheap phones (not so cheap when I had to replace them) I bought the more expensive phone because it was shock proof and water resistant. I have dropped this thing and kicked it along the street and it never missed a beat. Doing that to other phones I had, destroyed the display, caused the keypads to not function or get stuck and to just not work. The Boulder is as advertised. Its a tank.
I also love that I will be in my kitchen and receive text messages and phone calls and my wife won't even have service on her Verizon phone. The built in antenna is superb.
I love that it came with 2 batteries, one an extended life battery. I can practically go a whole week on a single charge with the extended life battery. That's pretty good especially if you are in the outdoors frequently like me. I wanted a phone that I could rely on. I wanted a phone that would outlast the two year contract period. Finally. They made a phone that will do that. I have had my Boulder for two years now. And it LOOKS AND WORKS just like I just took it home and out of the box yesterday.
The only down side to this phone are the limited ring tones that come standard. You can't have everything. My other phones (LG 8300 and 8350) had better ring tones, but you'd better not get close to a bathroom, or an open refrigerator, or a body of water; or even think of water. I take my Boulder Kayaking and have for two years. I put it in my life vest, with no special bags covering it; just as it is. It has not failed me yet. When the time comes that I need to replace this phone, they probably won't be making the Boulder anymore.
