I got this phone for free when I added a line to an existing account. I went to the AT&T store and they said it would be 60 bucks or something, but then I told them it was free online, so they gave me the online price.
I own the white version of this phone.
The phone is very thin (they advertise it to be the thinnest flip phone on the market), and has a long, somewhat odd shape, but I got used to that very quickly.
I put a screen protector on the screen right after I got it (5 dollars at Walmart for a pack of 8 or so large pieces in the electronics section - DON'T buy the 30 dollars a sheet rip-off ones, waste of money), so I don't anticipate any damage to the screen anytime soon.
The flip cover is a little bit flimsy, but it's not a big issue. Unless you treat your phone very badly, throw it around or willingly push the cover back waaaaay beyond where you need it to be to talk, you should be just fine.
The back cover does not have an "easy release". Most phones usually just say "push here" and the cover slides right off. I never understood that. How often do you open the back cover of your phone?? I never do, except on my old phones (a Motorola and a Kyocera), the back cover came off, and the battery fell out everytime I dropped the phone even from a couple of feet. I've dropped this phone quite a few times, and the cover has never, ever come off. I had to take it off once to install the memory card, and it took me a couple of minutes to get it off! But I'd rather spend two minutes taking it off once, than spend 5 minutes every day collecting the pieces and putting my phone back together.
The phone has a "lock" option - a small key on the top locks the phone's MP3 function, but when you open it to make a call you don't have to unlock, it does it automatically.
It does have an MP3 player, and no, it does not come with a memory card. I bought a 4GB card on Amazon (Sandisk), and that works great. Sony Ericson says the phone only accepts up to 2 GB, but my 4GB works just fine, so I would imagine 8GB to work as well.
This phone is very easy to handle, very intuitive to operate. No funky menu buttons and things hidden 8 layers deep in some obscure menu.
Bluetooth function works great, pairs quickly with my headset, as well as my computer.
The phone has a camera, but it's not that great (1MP), but the camera quality was not important to me, I use a camera for pictures and not a phone...
Overall, unless you are very rough with your phone, I would definitely recommend this phone.
