(More customer reviews)I live out in the country so there aren't a lot of options for me as far as high speed internet goes. Satellite...decent speeds hurt by latency. WISPs (none in my area). And finally, 3(.5)G service providers. After some mulling around I went with Verizon. Sprint wasn't offering their 3G service in my area. I've tried a couple of the other USB EVDO adapters namely the UM150 and the USB720. Originally I had my sights set on the 595U, but due to stocking at my local store I had to settle on the UM150, Great device with a useless (to me) SD card option. I ended up returning it to get the device I thought I wanted in the 595U. Note: Instead of a built in antenna this device uses a battery to boost the signal. To be fair, this device does consistently deliver lower ping times than the previous devices I've tried by 30-50 ms, only problem with that is now I experience an average of 25% packet loss. Closer to the tower I'm sure that this would be a superior device, but for my circumstances, I'll pass. Hope this helps you decide which direction to go.

Leveraging the latest high-speed EV-DO Revision A technology, the Sierra AirCard 595U USB modem provides maximum wide area wireless data access at speeds up to 3.1 Mbps download and 1.8 Mbps upload. Users can also expect average upload speeds to improve to 350 to 500 Kbps (from 70 to 144) and download speeds to 450 Kbps to 1.4 Mbps (from 300 to 600). The faster upload data speeds provide a richer experience for large file uploads and media/video streaming. In addition, the 595U is backward-compatible with older networks when 3G EV-DO networks are unavailable.
The AirCard 595U also includes a built-in GPS antenna and support for location based services (LBS). Users can acquire accurate mapping directions to client appointments or the closest restaurant using the GPS and LBS functions, which determines the exact location of the modem and calculates all the directions accordingly.
Verizon Connectivity Before checkout, choose the Verizon Internet plan that's right for you. The 595U is compatible with Verizon's BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess high-speed wireless data access plans, which means you can get the broadband-like speed you require to work efficiently outside the office. A Verizon BroadbandAccess plan will give you the freedom to stay productive and connected whether you're on the road or in a meeting across town with broadband-like connection speeds. You will also receive NationalAccess service when outside the BroadbandAccess rate and coverage area. NationalAccess is available in thousands of cities and towns.
The NationalAccess plan is Verizon Wireless' national wireless Internet service, and enables users to access the Internet, e-mail, attachments, and business applications with a laptop at average speeds of 60 to 80 kbps and bursts of up to 144 kbps (you may experience slower data speeds). Without a specified Verizon data plan, data service will be charged at 0.25 cents a minute.
