Nokia N76 Unlocked Cell Phone with 2 MP Camera, International 3G, MP3/Video Player, MicroSD Slot - US Version with Warranty (Black) Review

Update: Do not buy this phone. I would re-rate it to one star if that were possible. The problem is build quality. After 6 months the outer case was chipped and scarred. A colleague who bought one at the same time has the same problem. I had the case repaired under warranty but 3 months later the replacement shell is also chipping. As soon as it's out of contract I'll be replacing the phone with a decent one.
Pros: Clear speech (both caller and called). This was a No. 1 priority - a new phone had to have clear speech. The N76 doesn't have speech clarity circuitry but it's excellent all the same. Has a great MP3 player with ample volume. Voice dialling, neat size, clam-shell form factor, 3.5mm standard headphone socket.
It synchronises with Outlook. This works efficiently and it's easy to find a date and read the appointment. It's not so easy to amend an appointment, but I can do that on the PC after I return home.
Cons: Poor quality. Expensive. The front screen is prone to showing fingerprints. Some users may need to use fingernails to operate keys as they are rather small (not a serious shortcoming). Doesn't have anywhere to attach a neck or wrist strap.
Some might criticize if for not being openable with one hand. In fact it takes a practice to use two hands. I fumbled and dropped it a few times - fortunately it's landed in my lap. It closes securely and doesn't have a spring hinge that might break down.
Not really a pro or con but the camera is a standard Toshiba fixed-focus 2mp unit with all the shortcomings this implies. It takes reasonable photos in sunny conditions but nothing to get excited about. In other-than-good light the photos are, as you would expect, very noisy. It's for emergency use only.
Battery life is very poor although it does charge quickly. From fully-charged 20 minutes listening to music, 10 or so phone calls using the loudspeaker,(say, 30 minutes in total) is enough to completely flatten the battery.

LG CE110 Phone (AT&T, Phone Only, No Service) Review

LG CE110 Phone (ATandT, Phone Only, No Service)
Average Reviews:

I upgraded to this phone to replace my Sony z525a. My room is in the basement of the house, and I wasn't getting a signal down there, but my mom was with her older LG phone so I decided to get one too, and in the past I've had an LG so I knew they worked extremely well. After researching between this phone, the Sync, and the RAZR, I chose this phone, and I'm glad I did. I have great reception, the lowest my signal has dropped, in the basement, has been down to 3 bars. I hear everyone clearly, they can hear me. The speaker phone works just as well too. I have done several Bluetooth transfer from my laptop to the phone, and I haven't had any problem with it yet. The camera takes pretty good pictures compared to what I've seen from other camera phones. I've only used the internet to download pictures and ringtones, so I can't say if this is the best phone for intense internet usage.
The only con I think of is the outside of the phone is really shiny so you do see fingerprints on it a lot, but I just grab one of my lens cleaning cloths and clean it, and it's as good as new. And maybe, they should have put a video recorder in there, but it's not a necessity.
I've had this phone for 5 months now and I'm completely happy with it. This is a great phone for people who just want a phone.

Sony Ericsson Z300A - Cellular phone - GSM - folder (flip) Review

Sony Ericsson Z300A - Cellular phone - GSM - folder (flip)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love a basic phone. I'm not into the whole "tech" frenzy everybody else seems to be whipped up into. Which is fine. It's just not me. I have very few wants from a phone. While this is a good phone and is very (and I mean VERY) basic, it's amazingly too basic for me. From this purchase I learned that not all phones, even brand new ones, have T9 texting capabilities. Why the hell not?!?! That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Why would anyone want to waste time pushing each key however many times is needed to get the character they're looking for?? While this phone might have been around before T9 was available, it doesn't account for why new phones don't have it. Just stupid. Also, the programable shortcut keys on the navigation buttons, aren't much of a short cut. In most instances you're not able to choose the exact page you want to jump to, like the Calendar for example. I just want to push a button and see the month, but I can't. At most you save maybe a step or two. Also, (and I think this is just a faulty thing with this particular phone itself) every time I talk on the phone there is a "BEEP" that occurs about every minute. It's inside the audio, but the person on the other end can't hear it (either that or I'm going insane). Strange and annoying. I love the style and sleekness. I love the clamshell. I wish these types of phones weren't being weaned out. They are great little phones, all I've ever owned. One day they will be obsolete, in place of whatever the new "hype" is. Too bad. They will be sorely missed...

LG KG810 Unlocked Phone with Camera, and MP3/Video Player--International Version with Warranty (Black) Review

LG KG810 Unlocked Phone with Camera, and MP3/Video Player--International Version with Warranty (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The LG KG810 is a beautiful phone with a sleek design, great quality built, it feels solid and has many features.
This phone was bought to replace my old RAZR which fell in the pool - the size was smaller and the design very similar.
My usage of the phone is very basic...to make calls (no texting, MP3, camera, or Radio). The problem with the KG810 is that the battery life is so lousy that even for this basic function the phone is mediocre, I can't imagine how it would be if I used the features.
I normally leave the phone to charge overnight, within 3-4 hours after disconnecting it already (w/o making any calls) shows down one bar...by the end of the day two bars are missing...and it cannot survive the night. This is really impractical as I sometimes am on call at night and I wake up to a disconnected phone due to low battery. The RAZR would frequently last me 3-4 days and that would be with heavy usage.
Undoubtedly LG is not on the same level as Nokia, Motorola or Sony-Ericsson.

Presented in a clamshell design rather than as a slider, the LG KG810 continues the multimedia functionality and design characteristics of LG's award-winning line of Chocolate mobile phones. Boasting a smooth, polished black exterior that glistens with quality, the KG810 hides a color screen and touch-sensitive music buttons that lets you control your music whilst the phone is closed. All this and an FM radio, Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera, mass storage device capabilities and more.
This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides tri-band connectivity (900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz). It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider. This phone comes with a one-year warranty from a third party provider.
Using the successful touch sensitive technology used on the LG Chocolate KG800 (as the world's first on a mobile phone) the KG810 incorporates touch sensitive music controls on the exterior of the handset. These buttons glow red when active and will not activate by standard items touching them. With no physical buttons to clutter the exterior of the phone the KG810, at just 14.6mm thick, truly is a slender phone. Open the handset and you will discover a large, vibrant colour screen with an easy to use keypad.
The phone incorporates an interior color screen with 262,000 colours and a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels, as well as an external screen with a 96 x 96-pixel resolution and 65,000 colors. Use the internal or external screen as a viewfinder for the 1.3 megapixel camera. It supports Photo ID, so photos of contacts will appear on the screen as soon as they call, and you can customise your display with photos, wallpaper or Flash Lite based files.
The KG810's 1.3-megapixel digital camera features a flash, a 4x digital zoom, a multi shot mode, and a photo album feature. The camera also offers up to one-hour of video capture. When it's time for music, the Chocolate boasts a built-in music player with stereo speakers and an equalizer, offering MP3 and WMA playback, a feature which lets you keep your music playing in the background during a call. You can also take advantage of the Chocolate's Bluetooth wireless headset capability, allowing you to hook up a pair of Bluetooth stereo headphones.
Connect the KG810 to a PC using the supplied USB cable and it will become a mass storage device. Drag and drop files such as music, photos, videos and more straight to the phone and you can carry them with you wherever you go. The KG810 has 128 MB of internal memory and no software is required for the PC--simply plug and play. Additionally, while the phone is connected to your PC, it will also charge too. Multimedia files are stored within the phone's memory; it does not include an expansion slot.
The KG810 boasts powerful calling functions, such as speaker independent voice dialing, which makes it easy to call contacts by simply saying their names. No prior voice training is required and you can even speak individual digits to the phone for quick dialing of numbers you know by heart. The phone's support for multimedia messaging means that text, photos, video and audio can be sent with ease. When used in combination with the KG810's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. The built in MMS editor allows the user to create convenient messaging templates for fast MMS messages, as well as the ability to create SMS messaging templates. And to make messaging even easier on the KG800, the phone comes stock with built-in T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets--a definite plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
Vital Statistics The LG KG810 weighs 3.03 ounces and measures 3.62 x 1.85 x 0.59 inches. Its 750 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 2.5 hours of talk time, and up to 200 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS frequencies. This phone comes with a one-year warranty from a third party provider.

Samsung Alias2 U750 Phone, Black (Verizon Wireless) Review

Samsung Alias2 U750 Phone, Black (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just recently got this phone as a replacement to my i760 and am happy to be back to a flip phone. Great Camera, have not tested video yet. Battery life is solid. I'll give samsung credit for the rotating/changable keyboard, a cool thing for the next model might be a customizable keyboard where you have the ability to assign values to each key.
As far as ease of use for the keyboard...I havent had any problems and I have large hands/fingers. It takes a little getting used to but once acclimated you should have no problems. I cant comment on voice recognition or blue tooth as I dont really use those features and honestly find them useless (once in a while I'll use my ear piece in the car but its rare). I also dont plan on using it as an MP3 player...I have an ipod for that.
If your looking for a phone to synch with outlook then find one where that is offered in the specs. Yes you can remotely sync and get access to web email but nowhere in the description is outlook mentioned so I cant hold that against the phone. It would be like faulting my car cause it doesnt fly (I know thats an exageration but its kinda the same thing) when its clearly not meant for that. If you need a phone that syncs with outlook then get a pda phone. This is basically your standard flip with a few extra features and probly wont be as popular with the mickey mouse club kids that want an iPhone like device that they can watch movies on and giggle over the txts their friends just sent.
Interface is about the same as any other VZ flip phone I've had in the past. The ability to use a 16gb micro sd is also a nice feature and is especially handy if you have a card reader on your pc/laptop. All in all its a solid phone that serves the purpose its intended for...a phone thats easy to txt on and make calls on.

The next-generation Samsung Alias 2 for Verizon Wireless retains the original's uniquely innovative dual-flip form factor with full QWERTY keyboard, but now the keyboard utilizes E Ink technology--the same found in today's most popular e-book readers. With the E Ink-powered keyboard, the keys can transform from vertical to horizontal depending on your orientation as well as switch from numeric keypad to full keyboard depending on the application in use. Other upgrades include a 2-megapixel camera/camcorder and Bluetooth stereo music streaming.
It's compatible with Verizon's V Cast Music Service, which enables you to purchase songs through your phone and download them via Verizon's fast EV-DO data network. You'll also stay on course thanks to the VZ Navigator GPS turn-by-turn direction service. Other features include MicroSD memory expansion (up to 16 GB), RemoSync capabilities for corporate email and calendar synchronization, Visual Voicemail, access to personal email and instant messaging, personal organizer tools, and up to 5 hours of talk time.
Verizon Wireless Service With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you'll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon Wireless multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) The V Cast Music service enables you to download songs instantly to your phone, or purchase music through your PC and transfer the files to your phone. If purchased from your phone, you'll receive two copies of the song: a Windows Media Audio Pro Plus format at 64Kbps stereo is sent to your phone, and a Windows Media Audio 9 format at 160Kbps stereo is sent to your account in the V CAST Music online store for downloading to your PC. V Cast Music offers nearly 2 million songs, with more being added all the time.
In addition to the V Cast Music service, this phone is also compatible with the Verizon Wireless V CAST Music with Rhapsody, which enables you to access this exclusive digital music service for RealNetworks and for MTV Networks. V CAST Music with Rhapsody delivers unlimited monthly access to music on up to three Rhapsody-compatible mobile phones and players and online on multiple PCs and Web browsers. In addition, customers who purchase music over-the-air are able to download the master copy of the songs or albums to their PCs free of digital rights management (DRM) software that restricts how and where music can be played.
With this GPS-enabled phone, you'll be able to access the Verizon Wireless VZ Navigator service (additional charges applicable) for voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions, heads-up alerts, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US (such as landmarks, restaurants and ATMs), and detailed color maps. And the Chaperone service lets you easily locate your loved ones from your Verizon Wireless phone or PC in real time. After defining a zone, such as an area designating a school or summer camp, you'll be sent an alert via text message when the Chaperone handset enters or leaves the zone.
Getting on the Internet is easy using the Verizon Wireless Mobile Web 2.0 package, which allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. The Verizon Wireless Media Center wireless download service is also fully compatible with this phone. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Media Center service.
With Visual Voice Mail, you can delete, reply and forward voice mail messages without having to listen to prior messages or voice instructions. Visual Voice Mail is the ideal tool for the busy mobile professional who may need to prioritize which messages he or she listens to first. Features include on-screen access to voice mail message status, save up to 40 messages for 40 days (or archive permanently), create up to 10 different caller ID-based greetings, and reply via call back, text or even voice mail.
Verizon's Wireless Sync always-on email service (subscription required), you can stay connected and get the job done while away from the office--without a delay and in a secure environment. Email is delivered to your device in real time across the National Enhanced Services Rate & Coverage Area, and you get the ability to forward large attachments via email as well as access both your personal and corporate emails on one device. Wireless Sync offers strong security with AES encryption (Advanced Encryption Standard) technology so that unauthorized parties cannot access or alter application data transmitted over wireless networks.
Phone Features The Samsung Alias 2 has the same dualâ€"hinge design of the original Alias, but the Alias 2 adds a touch of magic--a Magic Key keypad using E Ink technology that can transform the keys depending on your current usage. For example, in phone mode you'll see a standard alpha-numeric keypad, but when you switch to texting mode the keys will automatically change into a full, four-row QWERTY keyboard. The E Ink technology is the same type of technology used in today's most popular electronic book readers. In addition to its continuous transformation based on your usage, E Ink delivers a paper-like contrast ratio and a low power consumption.
The phone has an internal 2.6-inch LCD screen with a 240 x 320-pixel resolution and support for up to 262K colors, and it's complemented by an external 1.3-inch screen (128 x 128 pixels, 65K colors) that displays current time (with Samsung's distinctive new digital clock) as well as incoming calls. The front of the clamshell face also includes music playback controls. The phone has a user-accessible internal memory of approximately 100 MB that can be expanded via optional MicroSD memory cards (up to 16 GB in size). The internal phonebook can store up to 1000 contacts with each entry able to store up to five phone numbers, two email addresses, a street address and notes as well as the ability to pair a contact with a photo ID. The phone also displays the last 90 incoming/outgoing/missed calls, provides one-/two-/three-touch dialing, and offers a bilingual interface (English and Spanish).
Handsfree communication is easy thanks to the integrated speakerphone. This phone also provides Bluetooth wireless connectivity (version 2.0), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and file transfer. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server (additional charges or subscription applicable).
The 2-megapixel camera offers multiple resolution options (1600x1200, 1280x960, 640x480, 320x240, 160x120 pixels) as well as up to a 10x digital zoom (depending on the resolution adjustment). Other features include your choice of three quality settings, white balance and brightness controls, multi-shot mode (Series, Divided, Panorama), shutter sound selection, and multiple color effects. It can also capture video clips, capped at 30 seconds for sending via messaging for running for as long as you have available memory. The phone also includes a dedicated camera/video key for quick shots while on the go.
The Alias 2 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging, too, with support for sending and receiving text, picture, and video messages as well as mobile instant messaging (IM). There's also a complete e-mail client on the device for POP- and IMAP-based accounts. And of course, the QWERTY keyboard makes it a snap to type your messages.
This phone also offers compatibility with the RemoSync service--a corporate email contacts and calendar solution that provides secure and easy access to your company's Microsoft Exchange Server, with enterprise-class security and IT remote administration features.
